  1. I could. But it no longer works as stated above.

That sad for us they fixed it. To bad you didnt get recognized for pointing out their security flaw, lol

    UNASOTA

I looked at the link, but again, it wont help me. That just shows it to be anonymous. I need it to show a certain specific number that the SMS is coming from.

  2. You could also use a device I use constantly. I do not remember the name of the device, I had bought it on tigerdirect years ago. What it does is make any IDE/SATA peripheral become an external device VIA USB. Supports like said both IDE and SATA. CD/DVD drives, HDD, HDD that go into laptops, ZIP Drives, etc. I have used the hell out of mine since I had bought it. It is made by Vantec.

    HERE

  3. You could use Skype, to send SMS messages.

The problem is that you have to buy credits

The good thing I like about it, is that the receiver will never be able to reply to the text message and never will know where the text came from or what number was used to send the text in the first place.

The receiver however will know your Skype account name which won't help much.

But I thought you might wanted to know that.

Ya, I heard about that service, good service to use, however that does not help me in my situation. I need it to display that it is coming from someone they know, but that person is not the one sending it. :) Sort of black hatish :|

  4. I am about to go check out that service now.

The other one you are referring to is gmail @okiwan. However in my app it wont work. I have a specific number I want to make look like SMS message came from.

Thanks @Infiltrator, however, same problem as noted above, I have a specific number I want to look like SMS came from.

    Example:

    Target phone receiving SMS:210-555-5555

Number to display in SMS as sender:210-222-2222

Actual phone number (or IP) SMS coming from:192.1681.1.1

  5. are you referring to touch screens on computers? cause i only have experience with touch screens on phones, and iv never had a problem.

In general is what I am referring to. Not to much on the computers with touch screens except working at different places that have a touchscreen interface, like POS. But yes even with phones, or even just a touchpad that is common on most laptops. These tend to fail after excessive use, (which in my case is what it would come down to). Touchscreens on phones and computers including touchpads.

Not saying that keyboards and mice dont break down after excessive use, but to me they tend to last longer than any touch type system.

  6. Either get them from torrents or Youtube, youtube will usually have if not all, most of the episodes where torrents can sometimes be a pain to download or find.

Last time I checked all the episodes are all listed here on hak5.org.

  7. Ok, first to address the late episode issue. Yes, I stretched myself thin because I have a problem saying no. Appearances on CNET? Sure. TWiT? Of course. 20 hours a week at Revision3 encoding and publishing all the other shows? Well, I still have a HakHouse on the East coast. Hak5? Right, I'll get to that.

Thankfully I have awesome friends and amazing cast who has kicked my ass over this issue.

Come tomorrow we'll be back on track.

Now, with that out of the way, let me make something perfectly clear about the approval issue. This is a new process put in place by the ad sales team to ensure that our "reads" are done correctly.

And yes, I think that's crap. We've been on Rev3 for 2 years now, podcasting for 5 total, and I have no problem saying that 1) I object to this new procedure and 2) editorial is in control, not ad sales.

Sponsors have never had a problem with the content of the show. Ever. They know what they're signing up for when they buy a campaign. But if we were ever asked to change the *content* to please an advertiser, you had better believe me they wouldn't be sponsoring Hak5 anymore.

That said, some sponsors truly "get" hak5, givingus creative control of their ad spots, and even suggesting new ideas and sketches. Its that kind of relationship with the companies that keep you fed that truly make me happy about pioneering this industry.

/me gets off his soap box

Whew, glad to see you wont the sponsors control you, doing that, yes may mean a bigger audience for HAK.5, but not as good of content as it has been for the past 5 years. Quality not Quantity is a good philosophy to have concerning the future of HAK.5 IMO.

A lil side note, I personally have been a fan since Season 2, although because of life's endeavor I have missed out on alot of episodes, which I will be catching up on here soon.

Best of luck to all of HAK.5, both from the past, to its current staff, to any staff that will be here in the future.

Darren, I will be hitting you up on myspace here soon, hope to here a reply from you.

  8. If you watch one of the very first episodes, you will see that back then there were only Darren and another guy. And over the years, the crew just started growing out in numbers.

So I guess that's how the show started out and became what is now.

The other guy's name was Wes. Miss those days, always looked forward to Wes's hardware hacks.

  9. omg! i remember winmodems... thats why i couldnt get mandrake on the net. but wasnt it the first distro with graphical install?

I do beleive it was the first one, yes

And Zraith My fist Linux attempt was Slackware. It took me 2 weeks to figure out how to boot the cd on an old 486. once I finally figured out sbootmgr and burned through a case of flippies, I couldn't have been happier. Now, with Ubuntu and KDE on all our university boxes, I am missing the simple Fluxbox. All in all, it was a bitch to add programs to the system until you got the hang of it. Even then, hardware support at the time sucked, so I ran VESA graphics and through the 10 mb ethernet nic.

You can still put Fluxbox on it

  10. 1. Mandrake 8.2 was my first

    2. Tried Redhat Fedora 6 Didnt like either one

so i went back to Windoze, till I got fed up with their customer service

Got ubuntu, and been with them ever since as my main OS, but also use Back Track 3, and Knoppix

Oh and lil side note, my very 1st computer was a Commodore 64 :)

  11. Was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction? Can anyone please help me out with this. Thanks.

  12. Server, File Storage, Firewall, or you can just use it as spare parts, I saw somewhere (dont remember where) a guy had used his old HDD to store movies on and hook them up to his TV and watch the movies. I need to remember where I saw that. Need to do that soon. :)
