  1. Thanks guys, I've signed with purevpn for 12 months...they have a birthday special at the moment with their yearly unlimited subscription fee on $49.95usd. I'm in Australia so that worked out at about $55aud....not bad...we'll see how things go!!
  2. Cheers mate, I appreciate your help :)
  3. Hi All, I've been looking for VPN provider to replace Hide My Ass that I've been using over the last year. I'd rather avoid anything in the US at the moment and yes, I'll be using it for file sharing, remote access, etc. I'm just after some suggestions for providers that people may have had experience with.
  4. Ok I just lost my shit at my kids for breaking my Plantronics BT headset I use for gaming. As a result I've placed a black ban on all technology in the house like that means anything... Little fuckers....I can't fucking believe they'd disrespect me like that. and you know whats great about this....my wife thinks I'M THE ASSHOLE for losing it. I had to vent.
  5. Daniel Suarez : Daemon and Freedom TM (two truly fucking awesome books) Neal Stephenson : Snowcrash (Just brilliant!)
  6. Well at the end of the day you're the one with a clue and the skills. He's a fucking pleb who should be kissing your ass to get what he needs done. You could always just tell him to stfu and listen to your advice or he's not going to get jack shit.
  7. Movies are just pure escapism. In reality, I think any lay person would probably think to hug the ground behind a heavy fortified facade than run into the arms of a couple of pounding 50's.
  8. What is Diaspora? After four long years in the making we are proud to release Diaspora: Shattered Armistice. Diaspora is an episodic-release single and multiplayer space fighter combat game set in the reimagined Battlestar Galactica universe. Diaspora is a standalone freeware game based on the FreeSpace Open Engine, everything needed to play is in the download. The project is not-for-profit and not associated with NBC Universal or Bigpoint's Battlestar Galactica Online. Our team opted for episodic releases, each involving short plots surrounding different Colonial or Cylon ships and characters. The first Release, Shattered Armistice, tells the story of the Battlestar Theseus and her crew during the attack on the colonies. Many ships seen in the show are part of the first release but some such as the Viper MK2 and the Battlestar Galactica are going to be seen in later releases where they are part of the main story. Shattered Armistice has a fully-voice acted 8 mission campaign with an original score and cinematics. Several ships never before seen in the Battlestar Galactica universe such as the Sobek class battlestar and Assault Vipers make an appearance. If there is continued fan interest and support, future episodic releases will see ships such as Pegasus and Galactica from the show. You'll also see more ships not from the show that flesh out the Cylon and Colonial fleets. http://www.diasporagame.com The Release Thread After more than 4 years of development, the Diaspora Development team are proud to release our game. Background It has been 40 years since the devastating war between the Colonials and the Cylons. 40 years where no one has seen or heard of the Cylons. 40 years where the armistice has held. Game Features [li]Fly the MK VII Viper, the Raptor or the new MK VIIe strike variant.[/li] [li]Take part in furious battles against Cylon forces.[/li] [li]Play multiplayer missions against your friends as Colonial or Cylon forces.[/li] [li]Completely voice acted throughout.[/li] [li]Original soundtrack inspired by the show[/li] [li]Create your own missions and share them with the included mission editor.[/li] System Requirements Windows Minimum Recommended Specifications: Operating System: Windows® XP/Vista/Windows 7 CPU: Core 2 Duo, i3 or similar Memory: 2GB Ram Graphics Card: ATI 9600 or comparable nVidia with 256MB Ram Sound Card: Windows® compatible sound card Input Device: Windows® compatible mouse and keyboard Installation: 3GB free HD space Mac OS X (Coming soon, but you can guess them from the PC specs!) Linux CPU: Core 2 Duo, i3 or similar Memory: 2GB Ram Graphics Card: OpenGL 3/GLSL 1.5 compatible graphics card. Sound Card: OpenAL compatible sound card. Input Device: Mouse and keyboard. Installation: 3GB free HD space Known Issues [li]Due to the size of the installer it may take a long time for the installer to actually start. This may last several minutes (up to five minutes in some instances). There are reports that virus checkers may extend this delay so you may wish to turn them off during the installation process.[/li] [li]Multiplayer is currently very much in beta. Also, in order to enhance the eventual multiplayer experience, the team decided not to finalise the balance between ships. Feedback from players is very welcome. The true multiplayer experience will be available in the next release. Till then, if you wish to experiment, here's how to get started.[/li] Installation Windows Simply download the installer and run it. The Installer will guide you through installing the game. Mac OS X [li]Mount Diaspora.dmg, and follow instructions within to copy Diaspora to the Applications folder.[/li] [li]Note: Before you play for the first time (only need to do this once), please double click on RUN_ME_ONCE.command to install the most appropriate graphics settings.[/li] [li]Double click on wxlauncher, and press Play, located in the bottom right corner.[/li] Linux (Source Only) (At the moment the team doesn't have the time or expertise to make proper packages for Linux. We're hoping someone will be willing to help us out there). First, open a terminal and change to the directory where you downloaded Diaspora. Then open the archive by typing tar --lzma -xf Diaspora_R1_Linux.tar.lzma or if that command doesn't work, the following two commands instead: unlzma -z -k Diaspora_R1_linux.tar.lzma tar -xf Diaspora_R1_Linux.tar Then follow the instructions in Diaspora_R1_Linux/Diaspora/README.txt, with one correction: after you start the launcher in step 5, select your screen resolution from the drop down box in the Basic Settings tab before you press Play. Otherwise, you'll be running in 1024x768. Downloads Torrents Simply download the torrent file for your platform and open in any compatible torrent program. If you don't have a torrent program, you can try µTorrent for Windows and Mac, or Transmission for Mac and Linux. After downloading, please leave your torrent program running so that others can also download from you. Windows Torrent Mac Torrent Linux Torrent Download links Windows - [ShackNews] - [FSDownloads] - [FreespaceMods] Mac - [ShackNews] - [FSDownloads] - [FreespaceMods] Linux - [ShackNews] - [FSDownloads] - [FreespaceMods] Soundtrack During the time we've spent developing Diaspora, we have frequently been asked which songs from the show we've used in our trailers. The fact is that almost all the music in the game or trailers has been original. So for that reason, we're also releasing the soundtrack. You can find details on it here.
  9. funniest hack?....dunno bout funny but it was useful... a friend had a compaq laptop that they had given up on. (not computer savvy at all) i enquired what was wrong with it....apparently it had been "hacked" and now they had no longer any use for it....(i know right) i enquired further and they explained that their login had been compromised and they had been locked out of their account. they had been so frustrated and pissed off that they had decided to simply throw money at the problem and buy a new one. sigh.. so i got it home and fired up my offline nt password cd....got access back...wiped the drive and got my self a nice compaq laptop to fux about with. some people....
  10. Hi All, I purchased a digitech usb to ethernet adapter to provides some network connectivity to a tablet device. All works ok. Funny thing is the MAC for the ethernet device part of the adapter seems to change every time i power cycle the tablet. Without getting too far into things, can anyone explain this...I'm trying to get my head around it... I would have thought that the MAC for the ethernet wouldn't change... Weird huh,, or am i missing something very obvious here?
  11. i just flashed a new hornet with the latest mark iv firmware and found that karma takes a while to bring up a dupe of the local ap. After a while it seemed to come up. Looking forward to any fixes etc...
  12. Just finished flashing mine this arvo. Bought an ALFA 121u and Usb to UART chipped cable and away we go. Worked just fine, done in about 20 mins of so. Got a real buzz outta doing it myself too :)
  13. Hey guys, Hoping people can help. I'm not a system administrator by any stretch of the imagination but I am an admin for a particular piece of corporate software. Lately we've been having some major issues with things going arse-up on the software server and I suspect that a member of our "team" has been screwing about with settings and things for malicious reasons. Is there software out there that would allow me to log the users that have been access the server and the changes (if any) that they made? Any suggestions or insights would be great. Cheers, M
  14. dry socket can occur when the blood clot that forms in the extraction site becomes dislodged...you don't have to drink for that to happen. swishing with saline too vigorously can cause it...that was my mistake.
  15. watch out for dry socket...it's the real pain.
  16. I reckon its a sweet idea, except stoat law says that hectic blizzards can cause catv to become brittle without proper lagging.
  17. Oh FFS.... great project !!...love to get my hands on one!!
  18. often we get ideas and projects in our heads that we find out that others have done previously. i think its great that hes thinking about doing this himself. yes there are other premade products available, but maybe doing this himself will teach him some skills that he doesn't have. if he fails, meh who cares...thats how you learn. good on him.
  19. Well I re-evaluated the build and I'm going option one with Ivy Bridge. I've dropped the ram to 8gb to save some money, although the option is always there to upgrade in the future. There's always the option of going crossfire in a year or so when the price point for the 7850 drops. Although an i7 would be awesome, honestly I think the i5 will do me just fine. I mean I've survived this long on a dual core with 4gig ram, only ever upgrading the video card to a 4870 ages ago. I'm not a hardcore gamer or overclocker but I just wanted some options in this build to explore that side of things in the future. If this rig lasts me 3 years, including some upgrades involved I'll be a happy man. I currently run triple monitors in my home setup, using the 4870 on my only pcie x16 slot and a nvidia quadro passive cooled card on a hacked riser cable running from a pcie x1 slot :) I use softTH to get triple screen gaming and this has been awesome. With the new build however I can't wait to use EYEFINITY! It's funny though, without buidling a system for so long and just using what you have, you really appreciate it when you get the opportunity to build something special for yourself.
  20. For those that want/need to download the episodes like I do. www.keepvid.com I guess everyone knows that one but I thought I'd share anyway.
  21. Thanks for the update Darren, it's much appreciated. I've been a long time follower of Hak.5 and I can't wait fo the day that you guys come to Australia for a visit :)
