  1. I reckon getting a network of aussies together and communicating first would be a good solid start. Working out where we are, what we're interested in and how we can help each other.\ I work with plenty of IT people but it just isn't the same as finding like minded people into hacking, making and phreaking. So very early days yet! To be totally honest, to actually meet Darren or any of the Hak5 crew IRL would seriously blow my mind. I'm 43 (bit of an old fart) and i reckon i'd carry on like a kid meeting his hero....lol
  2. How about a permanent thread in the "Community" section of the forums for the Aussies to connect? I know that this could possibly involve everyone from different countries also wanting their own thread. So maybe another idea would be a search of members based on country? Looking for ideas :)
  3. Mate I'm keen to connect with other Aussie's that are hak5 fans. One of the problems we encounter is always the vast distances between us, so it's always hard to arrange meetups and become an active community. I'm not even aware if we have hacker or maker cons here in Australia. I'm more than happy to talk more about how we can link up though....open to ideas.
  4. Nice, cheap little project. Thanks...ordering some from ebay now :)
  5. Hey Aus...yeah I'm a little further up the coast in Mackay. No NBN love for me atm, only adsl2+..but i survive :)
  6. For me too...Australia. I know there's plenty of other online courses on pentestng but having the hak5 experience would be so much more fun. Who knows, one day a Hak5 online course (paid of course) may become available. That would be awesome.
  7. Hey, ok well first things first...your question is as old as time my friend..."Where do I start?" People will tell you to go and learn a programming language...read guides, read manuals, read books, etc etc etc. But look, I reckon the best way to start is write down what your looking to achieve by becoming a "hacker". So you wanted to become more secure on the internet? Start with google (no, im not joking), something simple..like, "How to secure my internet connection" Then start your research and start taking notes....ok they mention WPA2 here...what is that, how does it work, etc. Build your knowledge base. You may very find that you have a gift for a particular stream of technology, wifi, media, who knows! Tinker with hardware...get a raspberry pi...cheap, small, low powered, literally shitloads of projects out there. With that you may find an interest in putting together your own projects for it...which could lead to tinkering in programming to get the hardware to do what you need to do. The idea is do a few things at first...and then if you're interested in a specific field and find that you're good at it..then use that as your segway into other areas. I've been involved with computers for a few years now...i love playing with hardware and modding, i love wifi but my job takes me more into networking, routing, security aspect of things that i enjoy. I don't call myself a hacker at all...and i dont think i need to..its just a label nowadays anyway. The real key to it all is never be happy with knowing what you know...keep learning and sharing with others. Also one thing i have learned is that if you dont know the answer to something...try and research and discover the answer by yourself...rather than asking a question without bothering to do any work yourself. Well i hope that helps...I lurk here a lot but don't comment all that often.. Hopefully others here may offer similar advice.
  8. I use TAILS dude...live TOR distro :) https://tails.boum.org/
  9. Maybe a NooBRoom right here on the Hak5 forums. Perhaps "men of mayhem" as a name...i like sons. :)
  10. Count me in. I know stuff, but i find that most of the time a lot of people on here are arrogant sycophants so I just tend to watch the show and lurk. But yeah give me a yell if this is going ahead.
  11. Cheers, i love shows like this.. :)

    Watch Dogs

Basically a grand theft auto clone with some silver screen hacking thrown in. Entertaining on the short term, but as with most games nowadays....nothing to stimulate the mind or imagination.
  13. I just ordered a Turnigy SK450 quad. $300 "ready to fly"....maybe after i flash the esc's with simonk. First quad and rc but i'm looking forward to seeing what its capable of.

  15. Thought I'd share: http://makezine.com/projects/raspberry-pirate-radio/
  16. Just thought I'd share, today I was offered a position that I applied for. Same company, but career progression! I'm stepping up from the service desk job I've held for 3 yrs and moving into a very exciting (for me anyways) job role as a network engineer. I can honestly say that Hak5 has played a part in my success in developing my knowledge on hardware, networks, security you name it. Trust Your Technolust and good things can happen!
  17. For the Australian fans: http://bit.ly/1bzOZvZ

  19. PureVPN so far has been great, speeds are quite good and their gui is easy to use. I haven't had any issues so far!!
  20. Hope someone can answer my question. The web based script generators such as this one are very awesome, don't get me wrong. But i'm wondering what happens when the sites themselves are no longer available, ie. domains expire, site owner/creator moves on with life, etc. Is there a way we can get a zip file of these sites from the creator to mirror locally so that we always have a copy no matter what shappens? I understand that there are noobs who would love to put there own name to someone elses creation for their own gain...but.. Hope people can see where I'm coming from.
  21. But you probably have plenty of backdoors now, so you have that going for you I guess.
