  1. Will do and get back to the forum when its solved
  2. Compressed a song and produced the same result as the test I did. Could it be that the big file is a disk image (.iso) (well soo i presume I only know what is in it from the file list)
  3. So yesterday I was battling to compile john but with that out of the way the rar file that I need to crack is doing some funny things. When running 'rar2john rarfile.rar > rarfile.hash' : rarfile.hash is bigger than the rarfile.rar. 6.8gb big. rarfile.rar contains a textfile with no data in (0kb) and another file (+-3gb). When running 'rar2john test.rar > test.hash': it produces one line with a hash that john can use and start cracking. test.hash contains a text file with no data in (0kb) and a text file with some data in. I thought it could be the 0kb text file seeing as the crc will always match when extracting it and any password will be able to extract it. But that does not seem to be it seeing as test.hash contains a single hash. Any ideas?
  4. Also managed to get that one working. Dont know why the hell the 1.8 jumbo doesnt work but atleast now i can get cracking thanks for the help. Also saw that while using bleeding-jumbo that there is an INSTALL-UBUNTU in the docs file that also explains how to compile it from github with some other options
  5. Yeah thats why I am so dumbfounded. Thanks for the help
  6. ./configure make clean && make -s Here is the output of the compilation
  7. Hi all FIrst time poster on these forums I am having some trouble compiling john-jumbo1.8 in order to be able to use the rar2john tool in order to crack a password protected rar file. It compiles but then in the list of rm -f it removes rar2john because it could not compile I'm guessing but I have no clue where to go from here. Trying to do this on Linux mint. I only need the rar2john tool or any tool similar that will be able to atleast get the hashes for me.
