  1. Im recording as we speak, but all I get is some white fuzz, and couple of vertical lines. I have to turn the squelch all the way to min to get any kind of audio... is that normal or is something probably wrong with my scanner then? Its a really cool idea, I just wish there was a better/easier way to do it...
  2. nevermind.... I thought he wanted to map out a lot more... i got it
  3. I've decided to just not use it, instead im gonna use Acronis TrueImage. Its very nice sofware that i've had for a while since I use it at work quite often. It will give me more control over what I want to backup than Vista Backup does, and I can setup a script to run before and/or after backup to run CCleaner and other applications. Vista backup was backing up like 70GB of stuff, most of which I don't really need. This is backing up like 8GB of stuff that I really need. Provides compression, and another layer of security with encryption. I will play around with it for a while and let you know if i have any issues. I shouldn't since all the backups are saved to one .tib file so i can move it around pretty easy.
  4. The problem is not TrueCrypt - it works without any problems, the drive shows up in my computer, i can read/write to the drive. The problem is Vista Backup, it has a design flaw, it won't allow you to backup to certain kinds of drives, im guessing its mistaking the truecrypt drive for something like a USB flash drive.
  5. If I go to change the backup settings, it doesn't list it as a device to backup to. It doesn't recognize it as a hardware HDD drive for some reason.
  6. I recently moved the contents of my entire drive External WD Passport drive onto another computer, excrypted the entire drive, and moved all the data back on to it. Only I come to find out that Vista Backup Center won't recognize the drive... What gives? Is this a flaw with TrueCrypt or with Vista Backup Center? Is there any way to get this to work? or do I have to find another backup tool?
  7. when I say drugs in reference to this post I am talking about the kind you would be an idiot to use (pot, crack, tobacco). They do nothing but destroy your body, I am no health nut, but I would like to be able to breath when I'm 50 and enjoy my retirement. Not die from cancer, or have my lungs rot out, or spend time in prision. Sure you could smoke pot, never get caught, and live a fruitful life, but why risk it? I like being able to swim and run without being out of breath, and without being watched by armed guards. And doing things like getting high on OTC drugs like cough/cold syrup is just as dump, overdose on that and you can risk seriously screwing up your vision for the rest of your life. I think I'll pass.
  8. Does anyone know if there is a standard for blocks inside of a 10.0.0.0/16 network? I'm starting to map one out, and I was just wondering if there was any kind of standard template to follow. I'm planning out something like 10.0.1.0/24 will be firewall/gateway/modems 10.0.2.0/24 will be switches, 10.0.3.0/24 will be wireless access points. that would be our main network. and then for the other isp connection i would be using 10.1.0.0/16. After I basically set that up, then I need to map some of our external address to internal. any ideas? good software to help organize this? (i'm using excel).
  9. only fucking idiots do drugs. Get High on Life. Why is this not closed/locked/deleted?
  10. w00t laptop = 1 fan Your average cheapo computer probably has 2, one in PSU, one for CPU. Most cheapo computers typically don't have a case fan, or GPU fan. The slightly above cheapo computer has mabey one case fan. If you built the computer youself, it should be something like 1 for PSU 1 for GPU 1 for CPU 1 for Case Front (for Cooling HDD's) 1 for Case Back 1 for Case Side or Top (optional) 1 for Second GPU (optional) 5 to 7 is typical for a custom built computer.
  11. NIALL = Non Intelligent Acquired Language Learner. Link: http://www.lab6.com/old/niall.html Basically it learns whatever language you type to it by remembering the order in which you type words. I've played around with it a lot, and its pretty funny after a while. I would really love to hook this up to IRC via a bot of some kind. I can do the bot, its not that hard. What I really need help with is figuring a way to get it to talk with NIALL. I really want to make a .NET Component for this, but I have only a basic knowledge of c/c++ and i'm having a really difficult time understanding excatly how it works, and how I would do it in c# P.S. I was considering making this a coding challenge.
  12. I haven't really looked, but I was just wondering how the ntlogin system has changed if at all? is it still vulernable to things like fgdump/pwdump? or offline password editors...
  13. 300/350w is pretty low wattage. What are the specs of your system? Not to be stupid but have you tried a different monitor? Though if you don't get any beeps it means your system isn't getting past POST. When a system boots: 1. Power On 2. BIOS Loads 3. POST 5. Boot Loader 6. Operating System Loads The system should beep somewhere between Step 1 and the end of Step 3. Can You please explain more about your system. Explain exactly what all the parts of your system are and where they came from (original computer, other computer, new, etc)?
  14. The Hak5 Community has never and will never condone "hacking a network." Clearly you are not supposed to have root access to this box/network and I don't think anyone here will help you. I will say that a quick google search will turn up a couple hundred different ways, some of which may or may not work. Golden Rule: Don't do to others what you would not want done to yourself.
  15. And that is what we call a virus... Would you really want someone to do that to you? probably not...
  16. I think the USB hacks were a great excercise on how insecure Auto-Run/Auto-Play and on how it can be used to automate things. Whats wrong is that its attracting a huge crowd of people that are only intrested in stringing together a handfull of nirsoft or pwdump apps and using them to STEAL passwords and information from there 'friends' Most people in this forum are not using them to automate driver updates, or install software, or anything of real use. We just say that to justify why this section still exists. This Is My Challenge To The Memebers Of This Forums: Make a USB "Package" from scratch, that does something useful, installing firefox for your friends, idk something creative! BE CREATIVE! If you start developing packages that are useful, and interesting more people would give you respect. BUT if all you want is to come in and dump someone's package onto your flash drive and "pwn" your friends, or school, YOU ARE NOT LEARNING ANYTHING!!. ANYBODY can dump files onto a flashdrive, wouldn't you much rather build something yourself that is useful.
  17. there is no way to tell from just looking at the board. Most motherboards will support at least 1GB, but it really depends.
  18. These are my thought on the "usb hacks" please post intelligent responses, I don't want to start a flame war. It was really a great idea to begin with, exploit the "AutoPlay/AutoRun" feature of windows, used mostly to ease the installation of software, and later exploited by Sony to install there anti-piracy root-kits. But instead of using a CD, you are using a Virtual CD in the form of a U3 Flash Drive. First, at this point I can easily defeat the "Switchblade" or w/e you wish to call it simply by disabling AutoPlay/AutoRun and installing Anti-Virus (which now detects all of the Nirsoft "utilities" and other various "tools" as infected. (CA Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware) Second, this is not really hacking or coding in any form. Nobody here, that I am aware, has written any code short of a few vb and batch scripts. Which makes this what the more experience people of the forums would call "skidde" or "script kiddie." Lastly, though I'm not going to call you all stupid idiots for doing this, I just think that you should do this to learn about exploit that still exist in Windows, and what you can do to protect yourself. Though I doubt anyone will care, I think you should really spend more time learning other things, branch out and come up with other ideas. Mabey your next idea could grow into a popular project, Hak5 is great place to get help on your project there are a lot of people here with a lot of experience and knowledge. I just think it's a waste of a lot of talent that all of our time is spent on this.
  19. this is the most pointless thread ever. Get your own computer and ISP Solved. Or if your want to be a 1337 hacker then boot from a USB drive or CD, though the library staff may wonder what the hell you are doing.
  20. personally VB.NET is a much easier place to start than VB6, having spent some time with VB6, the IDE in Visual Studio is much better than the IDE in VB6. The MSDN forums is a great place to find answers to all your questions, the MSDN Documentation that comes with VB.NET is extensive and provides a lot of code examples. The only problem with VB.NET is that it requires at the minimum .NET 2.0, but most people have that installed, and you can include .NET with your installation files. The express editions which are free have all the features that a novice or amateur coder would want.
  21. why would you learn vb6? learn vb.net, you get the visual studio express editions for free.
  22. you should be able import it into a resource file and then use the io.file.copy feature to copy it back out to the computer.
  23. what tool did you use? I know apps like acronis disk director will allow you to do this though i have never tried it. The best way to do something like this would be to buy another HDD and move all the data over. HDD's are cheap so if its important i would try that instead. Partitions are evil!!! whoever created partitions should rot in hell, the former sysadmin at my work insisted on splitting a normal HDD into like 4 partitions for backup or something i never understood why.
  24. ?? what is it a NAS or something.... please elaborate
  25. nice.... looks like a lot of fun, its amazing that he able to climb up and down without it falling over. and if you fall over your screwed.
