I have been succesful installing Ubuntu, I had to re-install rEFInd after Ubuntu again, I must have missed something, but it works fine now: dual boot Mac OS X and Ubuntu.

After a bit of research, I think I am going the path of putting Linux partition on my MacBook Air in order to properly use the Nano... I'll keep you posted!
