  1. thanks but it took me a while... As I said before, when I unplug the internet connection from the MCE computer and the 3 computers are connected wirelessly to the wireless router (except the one with the router connected to it), they all show up in the workgroup, but not all are accessible to each other. Im really confused.
  2. Yes I am only trying to set up a workgroup, I don't have a domain controller on the network. I have attached a diagram of my network setup, I hope this helps us do some more headscratching and finally resolve the matter. @digip: Restoring the MCE computer is a little out of the question as I am not the primary user. Yes I am setting things up through wireless but as you may be able to see in the diagram, an ad hoc network may not be possible. Thanks.
  3. All computers on the network are running a fresh install of Windows XP Professional except for the internet computer, which is running Windows XP Media Center Edition.
  4. My friend took a look at the remembered networks on his mac and found out that it was WPA1 so hopefully we'll get it that way. The official documentation stated that it would be WPA2 protected though... hmm =\
  5. Can't quite do that because the username field has text in it AND is grayed out if you know what I mean.
  6. Thanks, but that information is older than July 11 of this year, which is when the new firmware came out that supports certificates.
  7. Whoa conflicting opinions. I guess I'll try it both ways and see what happens. About the password problem, I am definitely entering the password for the user account of the comptuer I am trying to connect to. But the username field says *computername*\Guest so does this mean that I need to enter a password to access the computer using the guest account? Thanks again. PS Ill try this stuff tomorrow because I'm really tired from just mowing the lawn and I need some sleep :)
  8. I have certificates for a wireless network that is WPA1 with PEAP - MS-CHAPv2 and AES encryption protected. I am trying to get an iPod touch device on the network. I've gotten a start on it, but it doesn't seem to be leading anywhere. And yes I have tried google, but since this is fairly new to the iPod touch, I didn't get relevant results. I appreciate any help. Thank you.
  9. Hello everyone, sorry I haven't had the time to be on here in a while. Today I am having a problem with my Windows workgroup, and I was wondering if you could help me. I have 1 laptop and 2 desktops on the workgroup. laptop can see desktop 1 when i try to access desktop 1 from laptop, it asks me for a password, but I haven't set one, the username is unchangeable "*compname*\Guest" desktop 2 is the only computer with internet access. desktop 2 is connected to a voip box which connects to the cable modem. desktop 2 also has a wireless adapter that is being used to connect to the existing network. Apparently desktop 2 is connected to both connections, but when both connections are connected, the laptop and desktop 1 can't access it. when the ethernet connection is not being used, all workgroup computers show up in the workgroup. Sorry if this was a little confusing, but I've tried everything I could think of... Thanks for any help.
  10. the OS did not recognize my NIC but... Thank you everyone for your help. I have fixed the problem. My Solution: open device manager, find the hardware id then put those numbers into google. Download the appropriate driver to a flash drive, then plug the drive into the server and have windows update look for a .inf file in the 'WinXP' directory of the driver download. that should work, because it worked for me. Thanks again.
  11. I have just installed a fresh copy of Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition just to mess around with it. Now I need help setting it up to get on my LAN... My NIC is connected to the router, and this is my first time using this OS so I really don't know what to do. Yes I have searched it, but the directions aren't quite what I would like. Could anyone please help me? Thanks in advance for any help.
  12. Well thanks, I have taken a web design class so I know html and css. That validation stuff is very... picky and complicated. I will sort that out when I have some time. I am having a problem with the FTP, so I am working that out now.
  13. The site is pretty much up and running now. All I have to do is put the proxy on the same server, under a subdomain. Is there anything else I could do to improve it?
  14. Thanks for your replies. It is my own laptop and i'm going to get wireshark up and running when I have time. Thanks!
  15. I don't have the funds to invest in a real website design, most people won't be able to tell, well, some people. What is aliasing? I cannot install software for fear of my old system crashing. The site name is assigned to me by my host. I will be getting a domain name in a few months, so I will use the nameservers to connect the domain name to my hosting. That's why i have a redirect. http://networkorb.us.to/ It serves the purpose for now. Thanks! Is there anything else I can improve with the site?
  16. @ dhp1080: why is it spammy? I use kwix-host for my hosting and have a reseller account. My username is jtprxy on their forums, so yeah. @ VaKo: Define SEOish... you mean search engine optimized? And its not supposed to be a personal site. Thanks for all your help!

  18. I have just created a webpage at http://jtprxy.kwixresellers.info/ Please tell me what I can do better to optimize the site, but I am working on that now. This page will serve as a template for all the other pages of my site. Thanks! EDIT: I have chosen the third design to be the website, due to popularity. Could you please tell me what I could do to improve it? Thanks!
  19. Thanks thisiam, I was in a hurry so I forgot to blur it. I'm not worried about the ip since it is the ip of the hospital, not my home.

  22. @ thisiam: different router meaning what? i only have a wired one. I sometimes use my neighbors wireless when mine fails. @ VaKo: I will run the commands. Lol nice one, leprechauns in the wires.
  23. @ Sparda: I am going to have to check this next time I connect to my wired. @ VaKo : It is not my router, it is a public one. Sorry. Your idea in cmd sounds good, I'll see if I can get that to work. I am supposed to use that method when I am on my wired right? @ Blunderboy: I was using AVG 7.5 Pro until I uninstalled it. I do not have a router. I use a public AP, correct, but when I connect at home, I use this method, starting from the wall connection>comcast modem>linksys voip box (splits connection from modem to connection to computer and connection to phone.) I connect the laptop to the voip box. Sorry if that was a little confusing.
  24. Thanks for all the quick replies: @ Sparda: I just uninstalled my firewall today. @ Blunderboy: I didn't download anything while I didn't have antivirus running, so it can't be a trojan because my virus scanner didnt pick up anything. I don't think the problem is complicated enough to use wireshark. FFox has it set to detect environment settings, same with limewire and gaim. @ VaKo: Browse via what IP? @ Sparda: What error, I never mentioned any error. It just says page couldnt be loaded or something similar. @ thisiam: when wireless, im going through a router, which is a different ap, same when I connect directly to modem @ Blunderboy: I am connecting through public AP, and when I do use my own wired connection, things go wrong.
  25. here is a fruitful question: Alright so i have a laptop that connects wired/wireless. When I am on wireless, I can use Firefox for U3, Limewire pro, and Gaim (portable AIM). When I am on a wired connections, I cannot use either and can only use ie, not limewire, ffox, or gaim. Can anyone please help? Thank you.
