I also just SSHd into the pineapple while it was connected to the android phone. Hi, I just purchased the nano. I was able to successfully connect to it via wifi. However, I cannot get it to connect via my Galaxy S7 android phone, nor to my Ubuntu laptop. For the Android: I turned USB Tethering on. Then, it hangs on the message "waiting for the wifi pineapple to make a connection". For the Ubuntu Laptop: I was able to connect via Wifi. I was able to configure the Pineapple. However, It will not connect when I attempt to connect via USB.
