  3. Passed today :) yay me! Now whats next, Id love to take a crack at offensive securitys courses but with two screaming children I may need to assess the timing on that one. For now im taking a month off and celebrating with a ticket to Terminator! #nerdlife #alone.
  4. Hi Barry, cant recall now, however I am now up and running as per Coopers suggested method. I know metasploitable is flawed by design but holy ... i did not think it would be so easy just starting off with rlogin and WTF is up with NFS that is dangerous :) im going to have to research how to secure that. Seems far far far too easy. I think I will setup a stock install of ubuntu on a box and see if I have as much luck. I am soo bitten by the bug right now.
  5. In one of the pics "das keyboard" is it?
  6. I wish I never saw that keyboard, now it wants one
  7. Yep, was no problem on Xubuntu, heh, see sometimes you just need the input of your peers to re-think the plan. VM to VM - DUH
  8. Hi Seb ! My intent is to attack a kali vm using the tools in Kali but i am thinking i misunderstood the instructions so i think i may just install it on another boz i have lying around
  9. HI guys, Im going to make a cry for help. I just cannot get VMware player working on kali so I can run some labs I have looked deep online but the suggestions are just not working for me or im not really comprehending them. I was hoping someone here might have been thru this and would be able to offer some advise. Below is my log file. Its late and I need sleep so my apologies in advance and replys will follow. Im really struggling to understand whats actually going on here :| 2015-06-24T22:03:22.720+08:00| vthread-3| I120: Log for VMware Workstation pid=10638 version=9.0.4 build=build-1945795 option=Release 2015-06-24T22:03:22.720+08:00| vthread-3| I120: The process is 64-bit. 2015-06-24T22:03:22.720+08:00| vthread-3| I120: Host codepage=UTF-8 encoding=UTF-8 2015-06-24T22:03:22.720+08:00| vthread-3| I120: Host is Linux 3.18.0-kali3-amd64 Kali GNU/Linux 1.1.0 2015-06-24T22:03:22.719+08:00| vthread-3| I120: Msg_Reset: 2015-06-24T22:03:22.719+08:00| vthread-3| I120: [msg.dictionary.load.openFailed] Cannot open file "/usr/lib/vmware/settings": No such file or directory. 2015-06-24T22:03:22.719+08:00| vthread-3| I120: ---------------------------------------- 2015-06-24T22:03:22.719+08:00| vthread-3| I120: PREF Optional preferences file not found at /usr/lib/vmware/settings. 10. I enjoyed it, I like its atmosphere, and lets face it, the "TV Watching Public" would not understand it if it were 100% accurate. I give it 2 seasons
  11. Great to see your up and running smeardoss, I wish I had funny bunny's explanation 6 months back !
  12. Spot on :) this machine does not have files of concern, but the thought crossed my mind from a normal users perspective whilst covering chapters on OS hardening and such. Thanks Cooper, ill try the nmap thing as soon as time permits :)
  13. Lets get our school on ;) You have a budget, are you studying or is this a side hobby? Are you dedicated? How much time have you spent playing thus far or following the scene? What was the motivator to jump in and buy some kit? All good questions to ask yourself. You mentioned you are interested in https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00PITY1KI/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_8i-Dvb9GCWQSK ? how about sharing with us why this one appeals to you? what do You think its strengths weakness's may be? At the end of the day we can all suggest kit but its not the tool its the tradesman. Me personally, I have a shitty old dell 2 core something laptop and an optiplex 780 desktop in the lab that work a charm, maybe id need more power if working with decryption or something but for now its sufficient and keeps the i5 free for Kerbal Space program !;) All the best mate
  14. Just installed Xubuntu, so far id have to say im liking it :) very responsive and minimalist. I had alot of uncertainty using unity for my desktop, i think xfce fits the bill. Now to find as many reasons to not boot windows and get these certs done! Point: Im curious from a security perspective, when u introduce a GUI you obviously inherit security concerns. Are there any Xwindows systems that are more secure than others?
  15. This was a good thread, Cooper your a pot of knowledge mate. I am updating my certification at the moment (Sec+) and taking my time with it too, she's not one to rush into. But again only so that I can be sold for more money by my employer. Its quite interesting seeing kids from school with no technical certs at all, get the positions I have tired my entire life to get but I cannot be mad, I think with age you are perhaps seen to potentially buck the system a bit instead of just take orders. I dunno. I am quite humble and have proven ability. Certs are purely to get past HR and in the door, from then on tho its a matter of staying relevant. Work is good as we are a provider of ITIL training which they pay for, and any certs you pass work will also compensate you for which is nice. What I do find is it is much harder to study in your 30s with 2 kids than it is when your 16-18, but then again passing feels soo much sweeter. Wish you best on your study's Ximal, Take your time and.. edit: 50th post yay me!
  16. Well regardless I hope we have enough notice so I can make sure iv got me some funds to order :)
  17. I would support a visit down under, I think it would be money better spent than the 2k or so it costs me to get to teched each year :) To others in the apac area please feel free to message me or say Hi in IRC, no need to be shy !
  18. Studing hard for Sec+ very nervous.

  19. N D A. sorry just watched that new movie. the nightmares. the nightmares...
  20. Western Australia here lads, Keen to meet others, Perth does hold a yearly conference but ive not attended, it did not seem too organised but someone correct me if im wrong :/ Always keen to meet other local hak5 fans and would love to see a Down Under tour
  21. I am actually having this issue myself at the moment, :s I'll update and let you know if the same applies to me
  22. Success! 3 planes in sight!! So with this new found interest, how can i log the data that i get ?
  23. Ummm, I installed the ADS-B Tracker infusion on my pineapple, however I think im missing something, it says daemon disabled? How do I undisable it?
