  2. currently i have no views of him. all ive seen are what people have said, both positive and negative. i have yet to decide what my views on him are, i asked if the book was good, so far i have had mixed reviews but most lean towards a good read. i will definitely give it a read and form my own opinion on him though. thank you for your opinion as well.
  3. i didnt realize the one link was a year old sorry. ill read that link you posted as well. and yes i guess the question i asked was a bit misguided, i guess the best way for anonymity is use a live cd, hooked up to your neighbors wifi, and running tor
  4. the kraken spiced rum Bacardi oakhart rum, and Captain Morgan black, and a few shots of "Sicilian kiss", wasnt a great drink but meh it worked
  5. here's my story, i am in canada and it seems everything costs double here because of shipping, duties and taxes. i am very poor and trying to find a place where i can get 4 raspberry pi's with xbmc for Christmas gifts for my family. id like to get one for my brother and his family, sister and her family, one for my mother and i and one for my fathers room. he is sick and dying from cancer hence the reason i am poor, i gave up everything to move in with my parents and help take care of my father, he wont live much longer and id like to at least give him something to watch, we dont have cable, and are loosing the phone and internet soon as well. he needs 24/7 supervision and my mother has a full time job as a RN, id rather her keep her job then quit a couple years before she gets to retire, and thus i can not get a job yet. and the fund raiser i started for him hasnt done anything in 3 months. anyway i am not looking for free, or sympathy or anything, just want to get a few gifts for the one's i love and even if i can only find one raspberry pi with xbmc for my dad that would be worth while. i have looked online for them and all i seem to find is "not available in your area" or "sold out" or some ridiculously over priced setup that ships from some where over sea's. just really want a decently affordable priced unit that will make a sick dying man happy. p.s it is not practical for me to set it up on a computer or laptop as he can not get out of bed to even use the bathroom, or feed himself or pretty much anything else. (i do make a bit of money selling organic hot peppers, pepper powder and hot raspberry jam, but its few and far between)
  6. hey cooper, you make some interesting points, but i am wondering can you shed some light on these links? http://www.ibtimes.com/tor-safe-anonymous-browser-hacked-suspects-keeping-quiet-privacy-advocates-shaken-1645210 http://www.infosecurity-magazine.com/news/tor-is-not-as-safe-as-you-may-think/ is this legit, has tor really been compromised, and i also seen a video on youtube about tor and how the nsa is tracking people on it now (or they can track you a bit faster now anyway), from what i have heard you arent anonymous anymore even with tor running properly. is there truly such a thing as anonymity on the net anymore?
  7. speaking of Kevin Mitnick, has anybody read "the art of deception: Controlling the Human Element of Security" by him and William L. Simon.? i was looking into social engineering books and happened to come a cross this book, i recognized the name, didnt know he wrote a book though, anyway just wanted to know if it was worth the $14.50 cdn for it or not
  8. according to panda security at http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/security-info/53087/Virtumonde/ this is what they say (note: i copy and pasted it from their site) Brief Description AnchorVirtumonde is a spyware program that creates a DLL (Dynamic Link Library), which logs keystrokes and connects to a certain web page, in order to obtain miscellaneous information and display advertising messages periodically. Virtumonde connects the DLL it creates to the system process explorer.exe. By doing this, it goes memory resident, and checks if Virtumonde is currently running. If not, Virtumonde is launched again. Additionally, Virtumonde registers itself as LSP (Layered Service Provider), in order to harvest users' information about their connection, such as Internet usage, pages viewed, phone connection details, inventory of the applications installed in the computer, etc. Spyware can be installed with the user consent and awareness, but sometimes it is not. The same happens with the knowledge or lack of knowledge regarding data collected and the way it is used. Note: LSP (Layered Service Provider) is a Windows feature that allows to specify a number of programs, in order to process all the TCP/IP traffic taking place between Internet and the applications that are accessing Internet (such as the web browser, the email client, etc.). For example, it could be specified a computer security program, which analyses the traffic in search for viruses or other threats before transferring it to the final application of the traffic. However, this structure can also be used by adware and spyware programs, in order to intercept the communication across the Internet, and, what is worse, if they are deleted without taking precautions, the Internet connection will stop working indefinitely. Visible Symptoms AnchorVirtumonde is easy to recognize, as it displays advertising messages periodically.
  9. i8igmac very nice setup, i will keep this in mind when i start purchasing my equipment, i like the lego look to lol when i am able to build this i might add a separate power source for the alfa card and possibly a solar panel to charge the batteries when needed. maybe set it up so that the solar panel runs everything and charges the batteries during the day, and the batteries run everything at night some how. maybe a photoelectric sensor, might also set it up so it pings my laptop every 30 mins or so and if it doesnt then i know there is an issue, that way i can leave it setup for a few days. ohhhhhh the possibilities......... they seem endless ;) lol
  10. thanks cooper, it's been a long hard road for my family, and its not over yet
