  1. How do you guys fit so much stuff into a backpack?
  2. Can you post instructions? Is it fluxbox on Arch?
  3. I can do the 3x3x3 and the 5x5x5. I can do the 4x4x4 with a sheet. I can't remember all the paritys. Well I never really tried.
  4. I just bought a MyBook World Edition 320gb for 50 dollars on ebay. It is a NAS with a hackable Linux undertone.
  5. I have two usually on my Linux system. One that is for Trash and one for the Computer Icon.
  6. I agree with you. I think it is a little more expensive for the price, but it does run Ubuntu. I am thinking of getting it because I really do need it for notes and stuff. I tend to play my games and stuff on my other main laptop but it is 6 pounds and its got a dead pixel which annoys the hell out of me. I am thinking of getting this just to tote around and mess with. I just wish that they would change it back to the old processor. The new one is just stupid to use on a netbook. Luckily, dell actually has been pretty responsive with the Mini 9 and making it customizable so who knows.
  7. Has anyone seen these? Its a twelve inch notebook. Right now it only comes in Vista which sucks because of its 1GB only soldered RAM, but Ubuntu version is coming out soon and its probably going to be like other netbooks. What do you guys think? Is it practical?
  8. Exactly. It is the Linux community that is really annoying me more than the operating system. Some of them only want to use LInux to be different. On top of that Linux cannot work in a business model there just isn't enough money given to coders in Linux. Its great for a hobby operating system but in reality Mac OS X and Linux will always remain on top. They are so worried about computer ethics and that everything should be free and stuff that its gotten extremely annoying.
  9. Ultra potable laptops from companies like Lenovo are far more suitable for real work away from the office/home when battery life is a must. I like Apple products and I like Apple laptops, but they don’t make good work laptops unless you need it for a hand full of pieces of software for audio/ video production, and even then I think the only area Apple truly excel in is the audio production field. The only things I run on my Mac are: • Photoshop (Available for Windows or use GIMP on Linux) • Apple Logic Pro (You could use Jokosher on Linux but it’s not as good or SONAR on Windows.) • Pro Tool (You could use Jokosher on Linux but it’s not as good or SONAR on Windows.) • Final Cut Pro (You could used Cinelerra, Kino or Jahshaka on Linux or Sony Vegas or my new favourite Avid Xpress Pro on Windows) • I also run a lot of Linux apps. Other then maybe Quark there is no other reason to by a Mac and even then there are good alternatives. The only reason I can see for buying a Mac is for Audio production as there really isn’t much that can compare with all things Pro Tools. 95% of people mainly buy Mac’s because they like the way they look, they have no intention of doing anything productive with them as most are only a little bit more intelligent then an amoeba. Mac’s are over priced toys for most people and there’s nothing wrong with buying yourself a toy, but most people that own a Mac don’t own any software that makes them worthwhile they just use the shitty stuff it comes with and some other pieces that Apple shits out. I know I don’t sound overly Apple supportive but in truth I have nothing against Apple as a whole, I just dislike the smug wanker users, that cry like a little bitch whenever someone say anything remotely negative about there precious product and the douche bag twat which is Steve Jobs. .................End Rant........................................................................... If you’re going to be doing security testing, it helps if you have a good hi power wireless card with native support so PCMCIA support is a must until a good alternative becomes available. (It’s hard to find a laptop that will support two devices anymore but there are still a lot that support one device) I understand your point about people not using it efficiently but then again that doesn't mean that the actual computer is not efficient its just the people that are not. For my Mac I think quicksilver and most of the open source applications that are available for Macs are just as good as what is on linux if not better. Plus you can run the majority of linux applications anyway.
  10. I’m not an Ubuntu fan boy and I recognise that out of the box.... What would your recommendation be I'm guessing Debian with a custom Kernel? any tutorials I should look in to to get my tecra m4(including pen) working with one?(I'd be probably be using Debian with fluxbox now but I could never get all my hardware working) Debian with a custom Kernel is my pick for most things, as I know what I want/need out of an operating system for different boxes I build and sometimes a custom Kernel is needed (I have a box with 8 dual core Opteron’s). When it comes to tutorials, well there are a bunch online, although I have never read one and a lot of them look like they where written a few years back. I been using *NIX longer then I’ve been using Windows and I’ve been fucking around with the Linux kernel since the early releases of Slackware, so I’ve never had much need for a tutorial, although I enjoyed reading "Linux Kernel Development" by Andrew Morton. The OS most pen-testers I know use Gentoo and its what I use on my laptop, so it’s fair to say I like it. I have a MacBook Pro and it’s good for a lot of things mainly visual things (video/ photo/ audio editing) and you can get a lot of thing that are developed for Linux running on OSX, although I have to say there a waste of money if your not planning on using them for what they where designed for as the hardware really isn’t anything special. As a pen-testing platform there not good as: • The battery life is bad and extra batteries are expensive. • They scratch easily. • If you are seen with it, you will get mugged. • They break easily. • Parts are expensive if you choose to fix it yourself, which is a must if you have sensitive data on it. • No PCMCIA I use a custom military spec laptop for pen-testing, which I was given by a friend in exchange for helping him solve some issues. I'm getting three to four hours easy on my macbook. Which is about average. However where it really kicks in is the standby which allows you to close the computer really really quickly compared to other pcs. They do scratch easily but I don't think your gonna get mugged and they don't break easily in my opinion either. However I do agree with you it is a waste if ALL you are gonna do is use it for security testing. If you use it for regular use and just a little security testing on the side its perfect. Also most computers do not come with PCMCIA cards anymore.
  11. I have a macbook and I think its fine for everything other than wifi arp poisoning. You can simply get an external usb wifi for that. Thats what I did and it does everything fine. Plus OS X is very stable.
  12. Hey I have been searching around the forums and I have seen that this is a U3 device. However, I don't see anyone that has gotten it working. Does anyone have any experience with it?
