  1. Dell makes some great notebooks, their XPS M1530, and M1330 are a great choice. I waited awhile to see what notebook I should get and ended up deciding on the m1330 for it's price/performance. Got it 2 weeks ago with a really nice LED screen, 2.2ghz Core 2 processor, and 4GB of memory... for well under $1500 USD.

  3. Yeah Backtrack 3 beta works pretty well on it, I have it running it on now off a 1GB SD card, although hopefully I will eventually just end up stop being lazy and compile my favorite tools onto the main OS installed on the SSD. If you haven't seen it already the latest episode of Hak5 shows Darren running BackTrack on his eee http://www.hak5.org/archives/208.

  7. I'm using BrackTrack 3, which is still in beta but I highly recommend it.
  8. I know RHEL(at least version 5) does not allow you to configure umask to allow executable premissions on new files. They strictly do this for security reasons, which is deffiantly a must in a corporate environment. If fewer files are executable then their will be less likely a chance of someone being able to exploit your system. Now whether you choose to give new files the excute permission with chmod command is obviously entirely up to the views of the user.

  10. I've been recently using a Cantenna for my wireless bridge, which is a modified WRT-54g with the DD-WRT firmware installed. I'm sick of having to fix the wire on the cantenna. Can anyone recommend me a better antenna for my setup that is not too expensive either?
  11. Yup thats a bug that happens with Firefox running on Windows Vista. I had the same thing happen to me when i installed Firefox & Vista on my Thinkpad T60 laptop and also my desktop machine. Hope its fixed soon.
  12. /etc/init.d/sshd start
  13. I have to afrre...my thinkpad is solid as I also have to agree, I'm really happy with my T60, love everything about it =)

  15. Thats funny because thats the exact same reason i choose Ubuntu over Fedora. Wireless drivers seemed to aways crash for me here and there, I hate the default desktop icons (i prefer a clean desktop with Firefox and a couple other apps). YUM is fricken annoying adding repos, and downloading the headers seems slow at times (but I am biased due to my long time use with Debian) Everything just works out of the box on my laptop with Ubuntu. Although to be fair if I had to build a server right now I would probably throw Fedora on it because it is a solid distribution and very secure. Hey but thats why Linux is about choice.
