Garbage Characters when connecting via serial

thanks guys all working now -
I have connected my USB TTL serial adapter to my pineapple MK5 and no matter what I have tried I just seem to get garbage characters from the device. I Only have the first 3 pins connected..... GND | RX | TX I connected this same usb ttl adapter to another router I have it it works fine.
