Not sure if it can be, but even so, I wouldn't. the power from the alternator isn't that clean. Get a usb adapter to plug into the cigarette lighter and power it off that. I power mine off 5v no problems. consumes about 500mah idle so as long as you have a 1A adapter you should be ok.
