  1. Nice, ...that helps a lot , thanks. And of course, from that point on, I just connect to the pineapple UI the same way ? Also, on my laptop's list of available networks, the pineapple shows up as "pineapple". I thought that by leaving the persistent checkbox unticked in the karma config screen, the SSID would mimic other SSIDs. After all, no one would knowingly connect to some weird SSID like "pineapple", right?
  2. Also, do I keep it hardwired in order to connect it to an AP, then disconnect the cable, and carry on from there, ie: connect my laptop to the pineapple SSID ?
  3. Of course not... it was just bugging me that I could play with this thing hardwired, but couldn't make it work wirelessly. SO when you say connect to the karma broadcasting SSID, do you mean the pineapple SSID ? I can see it show up on the list of available networks, obviously.
  4. Hi all, My questions seem basic, but I don't know the answer. My pineapple works fine, and I've enjoyed exploring it. I'm running win7, and have configured the network adapters appropriately, in order to use the pineapple via ethernet cable. My question is this: how would I configure this for remote use ? I've watched the video on using the pineapple in client mode, and I understand that, but how would I then access the pineapple myself ? Hypothetical scenario- I've set the pineapple to client mode and connected to some free wifi. I've placed it somewhere out of the way. Now I am sitting nearby with my laptop, and want to access, in order to "do stuff". For that matter, when I am initially connecting the pineapple in client mode, I am assuming I will do this from my laptop, with the device connected via ethernet cable ? Sorry if this seems really elementary. As I said, I'm ok with it hardwired to my laptop, but I'd like to experiment with it "remotely". Thanks for any help.
  5. just as a point of interest, the device is working, as I am getting active intel from Karma...
  6. will unplugging with the blue light sitll blinking cause any damage ?
  7. ...and I have a few, probably stupid, questions. It's been plugged in now for about an hour, and is still blinking blue, which is supposed to mean that its flashing. I plugged the ethernet cable in after 5 mins, now the amber light is flashing too. Here's my question : do I still need the SD card in for this to work ? I thought that after the initial install, it wasn't necessary. Also, can I unplug the mK5 even though the blue light is still blinking ? Finally, I once had a mK4, and there was a bunch of stuff that needed to be configured in my adapter settings (win7). If I remember correctly, that's not the case with the mK5 ? Thanks for any help.
  8. Yes, I'd like to express my gratitude for how quickly and effortlessly I was able to get this up and running ! Havent played around too much yet, but the setup was a breeze, and was monitoring traffic within 10 mins of unboxing ! Thanks so much for a vastly improved product !
  9. Great explanation, thanks ! I'll keep my eyes peeled for a yagi on ebay or amazon, while googling for various antennae configurations. I've got various things on the go right now in terms of tech projects, but this sounds reasonably straightforward...thanks again
  10. Pretty straightforward...I'm getting really good results w an Alfa AWUS036NHA and 9dBi antenna, and wanted to try to extend my range. As far as I know, you can get 18dBi from a yagi-uda (correct me if I'm wrong) ? I know I saw Darren use one on an episode of the show, but don't know enough about electronics to know which is suitable. I don't want to fry anything. Any suggestions re: power and strength ? Thanks in advance.
  11. ...is there such a thing ? I looked around but couldn't find anything pertaining to using a Nexus 7 tablet with the pineapple. I do have a terminal app loaded onto the tablet. Is it as simple as plugging a cable from the pineapple USB to the tablet micro-USB, then SSHing to the pineapple IP ?
  12. ...also, when running the script, it gives you values, before asking you for info. Are these default values acceptable for most setups ? I understand that some people might want to tweak that, but all things being equal, am I literally going to enter the same values that being presented in the script ?
  13. Ok, thanks. In order to use this as intended, however, wouldn't I need ICS ? In what scenario would I not want internet to the pineapple ?
  14. Hi everyone, I'm still plugging away at this...I kinda gave up for a while, but since I've gotten into Linux, I figured I'd try the pineapple with this OS. So far, my built-in wireless card is having issues with detecting networks, but that's ok, since I can connect using an external Alfa. I am working on a Lenovo ThinkPad x131e, and as I mentioned, am using a Alfa AWUS036NHA adapter to connect wirelessly to my home network. I'm on Linux Mint, v.15. I'm still kind of new to Linux. My pineapple is MkIV, running firmware 3.0.0 I'm following the initial setup guide (https://github.com/WiFiPineapple/web-interface/wiki/mk34quickstartguide), and have downloaded the wp4 script and run it. What do I need to do with the screen I'm seeing ? I understand that some of those lines are comments (#), but I'm hazy on which ones are meant to be commands. Do I need to paste these into a terminal ? If I run wget wifipineapple.com/wp4.sh; chmod +x wp4.sh; ./wp4.sh, what do I need to type when the script runs ? y ? just hit enter ? I don't know. Any help is appreciated.
  15. Hm...changing the resolution doesn't work ,as it's already on the highest resolution....I'm still having no luck with this. Is anyone willing to communicate via PM ? I kind of feel retarded for not getting this...for what it's worth, here's the latest: hardwired to my cable modem via ethernet cable. I lose that connection, however, as soon as I change the LAN adapter settings from auto. So, I go back to auto, leaving the wireless adapter to NOT share. I can then navigate to the interface page, with the aforementioned results. The only way I can see the left side of any pop up box is to change the page encoding to right-to-left document.
  16. Here's more: I wanted to try connecting to a wireless AP, as opposed to hardwiring my access, so I connected to my iPhone as a WIFI hotspot, then changed the IP and DNS server settings in my LAN adapter settings to the specified ones, leaving the wireless adapter to share connection. At that point, I lost the connection to the interface page. If it makes any difference, the device is operating on 3.0 firmware.
  17. Ok, so this is what's happening now...I've kept my laptop hardwired to the internet via the ethernet cable. Powered up the pineapple. Left my LAN adapter to obtain IP address and DNS server automatically, etc., and set my wireless adapter to share. Obviously, the pineapple SSID shows up, and I connect to it- so both my LAN adapter and wireless adapter are connected. I am able to navigate to the interface page (yay!), but for some reason, the display is off...by that, I mean, if I click on pineapple bar for example, the window comes up, but it's too big. I can't access anything but the far right edge of it. I can't drag, I can't arrow over, or CTL - to make the whole thing smaller. This occurs with all menu options on the interface. Any ideas ? Also, is the way that I'm connecting "normal" ?
  18. Ok, I hear what you're saying. It does make sense, and I had done that initially. I think I started messing around too much , because it didn't work. The first time I did this, I had set the ethernet adapter with the 172 IP address, etc...and the wireless adapter to share connection. I'll try again tonight, as I'm at work right. However, this link describes something different, re: first time connection : http://hak5.org/hack/wifi-pineapple-first-connect#more-3457 Should I do this instead ? In any case, thanks so much for your patience and support. My background is in medicine, not IT obviously...
