  1. Spectrum 48k+ (the plus is important) Spectrum 128+2 (with built in tape player) Atari ST Pc with dos 3.3 then 4.01, 5, 6 win 3, 3.1, 95 installed from floppies and onwards from there but not as far as vista yet.
  2. This meet up could be a little more "mature" (old) than I was expecting. I kind of thought I'd be the oldest by a long way!
  3. I'll still have 3 years to go so I'm ok with it
  4. Seems ok to me, works out at just shy of £50 for the two nights. I with they wouldn't put the $ rate up, I saw it and nearly bailed straight away!
  5. Last think I heard it hadn't, moonlit was waiting till we got a better idea of numbers.
  6. It is at http://www.hostellondon.com/availability.p...ostelNumber.502
  7. Are we just booking the hostel rooms ourselves or is someone doing a group booking? What would be best is to warn the hostel we are all coming and then when we book we can tell them so they can put us all in the same rooms.
  8. The power of posting on here, I posted then 30 mins later found the answer! I added ethtool -s eth0 wol g to my shutdown script and it all started working!
  9. Has anyone managed to get a shuttle XPC SK43G to wake on lan? I've enabled everything I can find in the bios and have got it turning on from the keyboard but can't get it to listen to the lan. The packets are being sent out as I can pick them up on another machine on the lan so I know that the message is getting out just being ignored
  10. There isn't much room for any extra fans in the case, the lid basically fits around the drive bay and the space underneath it is taken up with the expansion cards. I'm going to look at cpu freq scaling as well as the approach I mentioned about sleeping it overnight. The only thing I'm not sure about is getting the drives to power down as I have fetchmail retrieving mail every 5 mins and so the drives will be up and down too much.
  11. I'd grab all of the videos from the last few defcons, shmoocons and blackhats. I'd also install the hacker school stuff from OWASP.
  12. Is yours one with the ICE system rather than a fan on the CPU?
  13. Well you can't get much better than an irongeek video so I'll have a look. Thanks
  14. I agree, that is why I was thinking of a cron job to put it to sleep at night and a wake up script on my router to prod it in the morning before I start so it is up and ready for me. An extra idea I've just had is to have a port knocking setup on the router to wake it up if I'm away and need to access it remotely while it is turned off. All this is good in theory but I've got so many other projects on the go or waiting to start it will probably be christmas before I get round to actually doing this!
  15. Nah, the server is currently ubuntu and would stay as either some flavour of linux or bsd
  16. Do you have any links to info on how to do that? I'm sure I could google some up but if you have any that you know work it would save effort and potential red herrings.
  17. I want to play with the start up scripts and auto hardware detect stuff and so if I make a change I don't want to have to shut the pc down boot it, test it and then restart the machine again. That is why I wanted to get vmware working so I could just hit the restart button and see what happens. I've tested my only other spare machine and even with the newest bios it won't boot from usb.
  18. I'm trying to make a bootable usb drive and it would be good to test it with vmware but by default it doesn't support booting usb drives. I've read a few sites that say it isn't possible and a few that give solutions which involve mapping the usb to a drive on the vmware and booting that. Has anyone here figured out an easy way to do it?
  19. Its been a while since I powered it up so I can't remember what the CPU is, I think it is an AMD 1800. What would be good would be to have hibernate setup and some way to auto wake it up in the morning and sleep it at night. I may see if it does wake on lan and have my openwrt router wake it up and a cron job put it to sleep. Only problem is that I've never managed to get hibernate to successfully work. I'll have to give it another try.
  20. My server runs 24/7/365 so over from your experience over heating would be an issue. I suppose I could look at getting hibernate working and have it hibernate overnight then it would only need to do 18 hour days.
  21. Inspired by 2x10 I decided to have a look at my server and realised it is making a lot of noise, using too much power, and taking up too much space so I'm thinking of swapping it. I have a spare shuttle pc (LINK) which, when I bought it, the shop said that it wasn't suitable for leaving on 24/7 which the server would be. I am usually the only user on the server, so it is never really stressed, my only concern is with cooling as the shuttle uses its own cooling system rather than having a fan on the cpu. Does anyone leave a shuttle running 24/7? Has anyone seen one burn out or do they run fine? Comments please
  22. Someone contact the hostel and see when they are quiet in August. From that, pick a date. We all book rooms and take it from there. Find out if they have a room we could take over for the few days as well so we can set stuff up and secure it. As soon as people are commited to coming to the event I reckon that things will firm up.
  23. If I can get round to booking train and a bed I'm going to go down for the Tuesday. Anyone else going down and fancy meeting up?
  24. I didn't say no alcohol either! :-)
