  1. earboybob. Considering all the old Laptop/Netbook batteries I have lying around and i just ordered my U2 yesterday that would be incredible if u could elaborate on that setup!!
  2. Pay attention to the kind of cable your using if you're going for distance on outside mounted antennas. The cheaper the cable the weaker the signals gonna end up. I personally don't have a need for long lengths of cable cuz i live in an apt, but from my limited research it seems like 15-20+ LMR-400 is optimal. If you're using less than that then LMR-240 or CNT-240 should work. But I'm still learning alot so it's definitely worth researching urself. Good Luck and you should definitely report back what you end up using and your experience with it. I've seen alot of people ask similar questions and offering first hand experience on the forums will always help other people that are searching the forums wondering the same thing
  3. If u really wanna get some distance u could try something like this http://www.simplewifi.com/parabolicgrid.html or these http://www.simplewifi.com/dish2.html powered by something like this http://www.amazon.com/Hawking-HSB2-HiGain-Signal-Booster/dp/B0009MYSHU or this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004S3OKLK/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2N1S6D8VVCNZ3 .
  4. No doubt. I almost got Odroid-X2 but i already use a USB hub anyway and the U2's half the size, a third of the waiting period, and 45 bux less. Should fit beautifully in a Pelican case. If everything works as sweet as I'm hoping maybe I'll start a thread with my setup. Some of the scripts out there like Hax0rBl0x, UWUI, EasyCreds, and lazykali should make running it through a vnc or ssh tunnel a breeze!!
  5. I also say split. I think Fallout 3 was an overall better game as far as storyline/gameplay/originality/immersion. Probably related to the fact that it was directly created by Bethesda. Vegas was also a freakin incredible game. And because of the small advances in technology from the first one i vote for Vegas in graphics/stability/dlc I CAN'T WAIT for the next fallout because a.) Bethesda's taking back direct control of it b.) It takes place in Boston which is 45 minutes from my home c.) It's a new Fallout game PERIOD
  6. In case anybody is interested, I settled on an Odroid-U2. I just ordered it about an hour ago. I CANT WAIT to get it and connect it with my Pineapple. =D
  7. Well, to join WPA network you'll need to either use Network Manager infusion or use wpa_supplicant. If you don't know what wpa_supplicant u can do a search on the forums. A few people have wrote helpful scripts to automate the process. But on 2.8.1 Network Manager should work perfectly for u.
  8. Hey thesugarat, any chance you could tell me exactly what cables/adapters u used for Pineapple/Alfa Card > Hawking HSB2 > Backfire? I'm bout to take ur advice and order both of em but like u said I'd hate to wait for em to get here and then need to wait an extra week for the adapters i need to order. It seems like I need and N male to RP SMA Female for Backfire > HSB2 and RP SMA Female to RP SMA Female extension to give a little distance between my Pineapple/Alfa and the HSB2? Thanks in advance!!! Update Nevermind i found a better description of the Hawking on Newegg. It's N-Male to RP-SMA Male for Backfire > Hawking and RP-SMA Male to RP-SMA Male for Hawking > Wifi Device. Thanks for the recommendation on the Antenna + Amp. I can't wait to try it myself!
  9. I really don't know. I've only had my Pineapple for like a month or a month and a half. If you were having power issue's with your hub when you installed everything to your usb it could've definitely caused things to install incorrectly. I've only used Atheros with my Pineapple. Now that you have you're problem sorted out it definitely couldn't hurt to just do a factory reset/ fresh flash. I have my mk4-setup-script.sh configured to set my entire Pineapple up from start to finish. Now that Whistle Master wrote the phials script, 1 more line at the end of my setup script gets all infusions installed as well. You never know what else tried to install to ur missing usb drive.
  10. Sorry, my adhd turns me into captain obvious sometimes.
  11. I've never had luck with choosing the option to keep my infusions. It's always been easier to backup my infusions folder and moduleList. Now that Whistle Master wrote the phials script its painfully easy to just reinstall em. Doing a "phials -I usb" installs all the infusions in like 3 minutes. And if u like to keep them sorted in a particular order like me just keep a backup of your /pineapple/infusions/moduleList and copy it over after it's done. Kyhwana try doing a factory reset via the button on the bottom of your Pineapple. If after that you still can't get the WPS light blinking when you boot up you're probly bricked and need a Serial/USB cable... If right now when u boot up the WPS light blinks u probly just need to resetup your ICS/IP settings.
  12. Is anybody else having problems getting the OPKG infusion to scroll past like pe - ph in the Web UI. It's only affecting the infusion. The cli updates perfectly. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, with and without the phials script, factory reset, reflashed, no luck. I posted in the main Mark IV forum but it seems like an infusion issue...
  13. Thanks. I wasn't sure if i should post here or in the infusions section. Since it coincided with 2.8.1 and i was following your recommendation from an older thread about not using the last fix i posted here first. Also because it was acting like a cache problem i wasn't sure if there was some kind of symlink issue with my usb
  14. I'm not sure if this is an issue with just me, but I factory reset and then reflashed 2.8.1 just to be sure before i posted a topic. If i SSH into my Pineapple it updates fine and gives me a complete list but if i update through the infusion it only gets as far as 'perlbase module' and that's the end of the cache. I've updated, updated cache, uninstalled, reinstalled, manually and with phials, factory reset, cleaned up my usb drive, reflashed, reinstalled and reconfigured everything, and still the same problem. When i reinstall/reflash 'perlbase module' isn't always the exact module it stops on. It's usually around there though. Seems like a cache issue but because it works through cli i don't know what the deal is. I'm not positive if this has been going on since i flashed 2.8.1 or not because the infusions working besides that so until i tried to scroll past perl in the repo i had no way of knowing. I saw a resolved topic back in March of the same issue, the bandaid was to change the repo until the dev's fixed it. Then i saw Seb say that's a bad idea because of incompatibility issues. So if any1 has any idea what the issue is i'd def appreciate the help. Thanks in advance...
  15. Dustbyter. It looks like you're forgetting to put "mode managed" in the iwconfig cmd. Also don't forget that iwconfig will only associate to WEP or OPEN networks. You need wpa_supplicant for WPA/WPA2. Keep in mind the Network Manager infusion works pimp for connecting to a single secured network now since the 2.8.1 update. SymPak, this script looks sick as hell. Great features. Can't wait for the option to keep a list of user-defined networks with keys! U should add a macchanger -r or -A $WIFI_INT to the beginning. It would be sick as hell if this could interface with reaver or access the reaver infusion somehow. Lol the Jammer would be sweet too before Karma starts. That would really automate things!!! Sorry I'm getting carried away q=]
  16. The only advice i have for you at this point is to make sure the Pineapple is plugged into the Power Adapter it came with. Remove the hub and plug in just the usb drive to see if that works Remove the usb drive and plug in just the alfa to see if that works If all that works then you know it's a hub problem If it doesn't work you have a deeper issue If it's the hub, either you now know what the specific problem is and you need to research more about that exact hub or you can just run to BestBuy, RadioShack, or whatever place is near you and $10-$20 later life will be good again. I'm pretty sure around 5v 1-2Amp is optimal. And make sure you get one with an ac adapter this time. Mine is 5v 2.1Amp. I have the Dynex 4-Port Hub. It's like a little rectangle with rounded off edges with 1 port on top and 3 on front. A mini usb input and dc jack on back. Should be at whatever BestBuy is near u.
  17. Is /dev/sda1 showing as mounted in the Resources tab?
  18. I only know what I've read about the hakshop hub but the one I have came off the rack from BestBuy less than a month ago and i couldn't be happier with it . It's a Dynex USB 2.0 4-Port Powered hub. Model NO: DX-HB4PT. The black and white page definitely seems like a power issue with your usb drive. I'm still fairly new to the Pineapple but the 5 or 6 times I've seen that page has been because I accidentally unplugged my USB hub without realizing it and it wasn't getting enough power for my Alfa and Sandisk. Are you just using the black usb port into your Pineapple or are you also plugging the red port into a power source. I'm not sure which way is right cuz i don't have one but every other hub i've read about has to plugged into a power source and your symptoms sound exactly like a usb hub that's not getting power. Good Luck!
  19. The Beta phase is over. 2.8.1 is officially released. The posts that you read were referring to fw 2.8.0. The issue's with Karma, Monitor Mode, Alfa NHA driver not connecting to secure AP's, and a few other issue's have been resolved in 2.8.1. Along with the addition of a pretty tight script Whistle Master wrote to be able to install/remove/update infusions ALOT quicker from the cli. It's no longer a Beta version. U can upgrade to 2.8.1 by choosing Upgrade in the Web UI. And as far as the internal vs external antenna, you can screw on any strength antenna you want. Just research it a little bit. There's a ton of options in that category. Generally both the Pineapple and most external Alfa's that i've seen come with 5dbi antenna's. You can get a 20dbi antenna + an amplifier and connect those to your Pineapple to turn it into a beast. Do some google'ing and figure out if you want parabolic, omnidirectional, directional, panel, yagi, backfire, etc.
  20. Semtx this may or may not fix your issue, but have you tried changing your timezone? If I remember correctly, before i successfully changed my tz the first time, it gave me some sort of error about GB country code (I'm in the US). I wonder if that's affecting you changing your txpower...
  21. That black and white gui page usually comes up when u open up an infusion that shows in the UI but the Pineapple can't find the actual infusion. It sounds like maybe u don't have your usb hub configured correctly. And the ssh issue sounds like u don't have your ip forwarding setup correctly. There's alot of usb hubs that work. I've read that the hakshop one works. I've also read some instances of it backfeeding power to the Pineapple through the usb port. I think a small modification fixes that though. if you do a search on the forums you should find it pretty quickly. I use a Dynex hub. I've read alot of posts from people using Belkin, D-Link, Anker, RocketFish, and others. The thing about using a "Powered" hub so u can use usb storage + alfa card is u have to power it. The Dynex one i bought came with an ac adapter that I plug in when i use it. If i don't plug it in i can use 1 or the other usb device on it, but if i plug both in it'll start giving major problems. Hope this helps...
  22. I believe he's asking how to change it so when he starts Karma via the Status page of the Web UI it will run through his USB Wifi Adapter instead of the internal Alfa. The simple answer is u can't. You shouldn't need to though. The internal Alfa is setup perfectly to run Karma. Since 2.8.1 fw is out there's no reason u should feel the need to switch the radio's... The reason to use a wifi adapter on the Pineapple would be to connect to a network, deauth, monitor mode, a 2nd AP, or anything else besides Karma.
  23. If all those uci commands are tough to remember, just ssh/scp into /etc/config/ and open up the "wireless" file. That's the config file that all those uci commands are being sent to. I keep "killall hostapd && ifconfig wlan1 down && ifconfig wlan0 down" "sleep 6" "wifi" without the ""s in my WPS button script to reload my wifi interfaces after i edit my configs u can always add "sleep 6" "udhcpc -i wlan1" or "udhcpc -i wlan0" at the end if you don't use a static ip
  24. Glad I could help. It's a real useful infusion. Great job reviving it!
