  1. Has anyone done it yet? I've failed miserably twice, while multi-tasking one day at work. I'm about to dedicate 100% of my threads to it right now, just curious if anyone has got it to work already. if anyone had bt4 installed on an HDD, can you please reply with your /etc/fstab??
  2. I have the HP Mini Note, and I haven't been able to install backtrack 4 on it after a few attempts. Dr0p what instruction set did you follow? Do you have drivers for the built in Wireless Nic? Can it do packet injection, or did you get a secondary usb nic for that?

    A+ Cert

Study the entire book, and be sure that you actually understand the material. After that I recommend checking out a few practice exams, only once your acing those do I recommend you taking the exam.
  4. Yep, I figured. ::Face Palm::
  5. So, I feel really lame when it comes to WiFi hacking because I've never had a compatible Wifi card to go with my linux distro, and I've never wanted to mess with ndis wrappers. So I stayed out of the Wifi hacking scene in general. I just ordered the new Macbook that came out yesterday, and it crossed my mind about installing airpwn or aircrack on my Mac when it arrives, but I'm not too sure if it will work. OS X is Posix compliant, but I'm not sure if the WiFi cracking tools are. So I guess the question is: Is anyone cracking Wifi with a Wifi Enabled Mac?
  6. You could sell them and buy yourself a pretty pimp laptop or gaming rig, or find a hosting company outside the US that will host your servers. I have a few servers in Amsterdam that I use as file repo or if I need another hop on the IP trail. The cool thing its strictly anonymous, I send them a money order every month to keep power and network alive. I don't recommend running them at home, your power costs will go through the roof.
  7. Dude, first, you need to spell Monitoring correctly, lolz. Anyway, Cacti (http://www.cacti.net/) is a free monitoring tool that uses SNMP to gather information from your servers. Make sure to install SNMP and configure the IP of your Cacti Server in the Security Tab of the SNMP properties. If you are looking for Enterprise Monitoring, have a large budget, and are primarily a windows shop, then Microsoft SCOM is the flagship product for end-to-end service-management. For more info check out (http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/operationsmanager/en/us/default.aspx). Also, for Misc SCOM tips and tricks, read my blog: http://www.laurencevandeyar.com.

    Span Port

Thanks Sparda- Question #2- Would I still need 3 Interfaces if the device itself is doing the sniffing?

    Span Port

Cisco Catalyst Switches have a functionality that allows you to span a port for Packet Analysis. See this article for more info: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/41.html Does any one know if there is a Linux application that can duplicate this technology? My goal is to have an in-line device with with two network interfaces that can do port spanning.

  13. If your in a domain environment at work, then most likely they are using GPO's. You can Push Registry Keys in a GPO. If you have local admin rights you can modify the Registry key. That won't do you any good because everytime the GPO is refreshed it will revert back. If your screensaver settings are so tight, then most likely you are working with sensitive data. Maybe your screensaver settings are a result of Hippa or Sarbox hardening. If that is the case, ask your admin or make suggestions. Don't risk your job for modifiying a computer that isn't yours or on your network.
