  1. Oh man, this is definitely some good stuff. I remember one day in #hak5, I mentioned something about needing something like this. IPTV is in need of a swift content delivery system if we ever want to expand and really become and 'alternative' to mainstream video entertainment.
  2. Darren: A guy I worked on a project with did that once. It was very rough and never got finished, but it was a nice start. A zip of the binary: http://www.omglolh4x.com/qconsole/qconsole.zip From his site, here: http://www.omglolh4x.com/?p=9
  3. Sweet. I'll be at Phreaknic. Anyone going?
  4. What law? The law of "Thou shalt not make too many useless and obnoxious threads" ? Because if that's what you're referring to, you didn't just "fight" it. You ran over it with a bus, beat the bloody pancake-corpse with a baseball bat. The tenderized patty of fleshy red meat was then tossed into a wood chipper, fertilizing the ground with tiny speckles of flesh-law-breaking-evil. (yes, I know the song.)

    Bonnaroo!

Some hippies are also geeks. The annual music festival, Bonnaroo, is just around the corner. Is anyone else going this year? I know a lot of folks on the board are from quite a distance away, but people do fly in to attend the event, so I suppose this post isn't too out of place. For those that don't know, Bonnaroo is a weekend-long music festival held yearly at a giant farm land in Tennessee. It's comparable to Woodstock in some respects. http://www.bonnaroo.com for more info. And check out this crazy aerial photo from last year: http://www.bonnaroo.com/publicity/2005/hir...5201636_Max.jpg
  6. I'm really trying to go. Getting a ride there will be the tough part. I can't really afford a plane ticket right now, so hopefully I can bum a ride from somebody. Anyone in the Louisville, KY area driving there?
  7. This forum is not your Google.
  8. Very cool, guys. Is the workbench there for Wess's hardware modding segments? I really like the lighting, it's looking nice. I just hope you guys have some forward lighting planned so your faces dont come out in weird colors on camera. :)
  9. That's pretty funny. The most hilarious aspect is that you actually speak english. So, I guess you really do put effort into typing like an idiot. That really must stress the brain after a while...Trying to come up with a new, different way to spell something incorrectly. ;)
  10. I've been to many lan parties in my day. Some of the largest in the world, in fact. And I will be attending MML 5, where the World Series of Video Games will be held. With commercial established LAN's, the written policy has always been against piracy as a whole. It's just the establishment's waiver from any legal responsibility. It wouldn't hold up in court, though. Piracy has been a part of LAN parties for as long as they have existed. In fact, many people I know attend them purely for the "free" software. As far as I know, if this were to happen in the US, each individual would have the opprotunity to deny all charges and claim breach of the 4th Ammendment. Things like this can get sticky, especially when judges are completely uneducated about technology. Anyway, if anyone lives in the midwest/east coast, you might want to check out Million Man Lan 5. It's being held in Louisville, Ky (as always). There should be about 4000 people there, give or take. More info here: http://www.lanwar.com/FAQ.asp?Process=DISPLAY&FAQID=12 If anyone is interested, hit me with a PM and we can meet up or something. Hey, maybe Hak.5 could shoot a few segments at the event and interview some geeks. :)

    NMap Question

It would probably be helpful if you knew how networks function. Rather than following harrison's guide step-by-step, try learning 'why' he takes those steps. You'll be less confused, and in the end you'll be proud of yourself for learning a lot. A few bits to note, to get you started: -IP address classes -address translation -networking protocols -TCP/IP 3-way handshake
  12. hehe, same thing here darren. I had a buddy in highschool that was pretty much my partner-in-geekery. whenever i'd go to his house and use his computer, he always said " *cough* keylogger *cough* " when I typed something. Most public computers I've used only had IE installed. If you have access to other drives on a public computer, you could always stick PSPV and MessenPass on a thumbdrive. Messenpass - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/mspass.html PSPV - http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/pspv.html
  13. Haha. So you think... Trust me, you have to watch out for the WiFi squirrels. Rabies is a much scarier thing at 2.4GHz
  14. The scary thing here is that your company is using WEP. That's pretty much equivilent to not using encryption at all. Set up WPA2, or at least WPA.
  15. Although it's a good read, this thing has become stale over the years. He wrote this when he was 21. He was 11 in 1976, and he wrote this in 1986.
