  1. How do you check if it has openwrt on it? i have the hornet-ub from crucial wifi, i think that only comes with the boot loader on it, when some ones says clean flash, does that mean install openwrt? because i know i need to clean flash the hornet-ub before i install the mkiv firmware. - Anton. P.s. when installing the firmware, can i just install the latest one? meaning i don't need to install the oldest one then use the upgrade.bin method to install the latest one?
  2. Yea, i am planning on building a AIO unit, the equipment - 3g dongle, alfa awus036h, 10,000mah battery pack & a solar panel to trickle charge the battery. Duno how it is all going to come together but if i get it working the way i want i think its going to be a neat bit of kit. Also i have that usb serial adapter here with me right now as well as the hornet-ub, i think i need to wait on my usb to dc adapter coming though before i can flash it, but i have noticed that the usb to serial adapter has a 5v & 3.3v pin's on it, duno how these would connect to the hornet-ub though and if it would even work.
  3. So you have an ap121u & a hornet-ub? i got my hornet-ub from crucial wifi, i have not flashed it get because i am still waiting one some parts coming, i just hope its going to work now :S lol, saying that the hornet-ub only comes with the bootloader on it any way, openwrt needs to be flashed i think, maybe you could.. was going to say you could wipe the ap121u down to the boot loader then clean flash it, but i am forgetting you cant even get it working through the serial, which you would need to clean flash it... its a viscous Circle...
  4. Ah, that's weird, does this mean the latest ap121u's are getting shipped without openwrt on them?
  5. Hmm that's weird man, stupid question but i take it the ap121u is powering on, i mean u can use it normal right? with the stock firmware? have you made sure wires going to serial to the AP121u are correct? maybe the usb port on your computer is not outputting enough power, tried a different usb port? last resort would be to try a different computer :/ just trying to think of possibilities... - Anton
  6. Hmm really have no clue, maybe try flashing it on another OS? could be somthing to do with linux. - Anton
  7. What serial adapter are you using? did you make sure it was compatible with the pineapple before you bought it? - Anton
  8. Ah right i see, thanks for the reply's. - Anton.
  9. Hi, I can edit my profile on the forum, i keep getting this error "[#1026] You are not permitted to modify all or some of your profile information." Help! Edit: Could this be an activation problem? http://xsellize.com/topic/70508-1026-you-are-not-permitted-to-modify-all-or-some-of-your-profile-information/ - Anton.
  10. Hahhahah willi wonka one is funny ahaha lol.
  11. This might help, http://www.visualdesigning.com/autorun-usb/ duno how you would go about bypassing the admin rights though... pretty sure it can be done though.
  12. Hi telot, cheers for the reply, that cleared a few things up i wasn't sure about. I read that the awus036h can fluctuate in power requirements, from 500ma to 550ma, apparently this is why alfa started giving out the doubled ended USB to MINI USB cable i was talking about above, here is a picture http://www.data-alliance.net/servlet/-strse-373/USB-Y-dsh-cable-A-dsh-male-2x/Detail this would bring the total power up to 1000ma fixing the on off problem, makes sense. I think i have found a solution to powering multiple devices without worrying about power for the pineapple, check this out, http://www.data-alliance.net/servlet/-strse-380/USB-4-dsh-Port-Hub-Power/Detail it's basically a usb hub that has an option for a dc power input, the usb battery pack i have orded from amazon, which is the Anker Astro3 10000mAh (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006WHMKEE/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_g23_i2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-4&pf_rd_r=0PD0BFD6N62JX6ZXPMPZ&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128133&pf_rd_i=468294) has a out put of 12v/9v that you can select, so i think the battery paired with this hub might just work! This is an interesting read, http://www.data-alliance.net/wiki/alfa-awus036h-power-problem-fix-realtek-rtl8187l-chipset/ - Anton
  13. Check out this bad boy, tiny wireless ip cam, wireless live video!!! might just pick one of these up, really easy solution. Edit: A bit to pricey for me, going to try and find a cheap alternative, gr8 for any one who has the cash. Could probably jimmy rig it up to run of a psu. Also just another idea, you could get a normal ip cam, connect it to Ethernet port, power it using psu & pipe it out via 3g!
  14. I just ordered the same one, Happy Days!
  15. Hi guy's, still egerly awaiting on all my eqipment arriving for the pineapple MKIV. :) My question is this, i was hoping that i would be able to get a usb 3g dongle and a usb wifi adapter (ALFA AWUS036H) both working at the same time on the MKIV. I know the hardware only has 1 usb port, so would a usb splitter work? Another question i have about this is regarding power, how would this work? cause i can imagine that the 3g dongle and the ALFA AWUS036H more so, together would pull allot of power. My ALFA AWUS036H comes with this cable that is 2 male usb's to 1 male mini usb. I am getting a usb battery pack to power the MKIV its 10,000 mha's & has to usb slots, so i could plug one of the alfa's usb's into one of them to easy the power consumption, and use the other usb slot on the battery pack for the pineapple, usb to dc. Any thoughts on this? any one tried it? - Anton.

  19. Well it all depends on how long he is going to setup his pineapple i suppose, my phone is good for 2 - 3 hours broadcasting video over wifi with the screen off. What he could do is buy a cheap usb battery just for the phone that way he will have the phones battery and the usb one. Add a solar panel to the mix and it all should be good id say with a setup like that you would get close to 5hrs or something? this all depends on the phone i guess, he can also downclock the cpu speed on the phone if it is possible and save even more power. - Anton
  20. Hey man i was thinking about this as well, an easy solution that i came up with after pondering over it for a bit was to buy a cheap android phone with a camera on it and mount it inside the housing that your pineapple is in, use the phones wifi or 3g and the ustream.tv android app to broad cast the video from the phones camera over the net, it works a treat! + the phone has a battery so u wouldn't need to worry about it draining your pineapple's psu i.e. usb battery. Hope this helps, - Anton. P.s. you can find android phones that are used or have cracked screens pretty cheap, you only need to use the screen to start the app before "deploying the pineapple" your other option is a raspberry pi and a usb webcam, this will drain your psu though and you will need to creat scripts for it so that when the pi boots up the webcam is stated automatically, you will also need to some how make it connect to wifi, probably 3g is you best bet there again. I would go down the android route though, all far more compact and power friendly.
