  1. I put this in my rc.local file ifconfig wlan0 down macchanger -r wlan0 ifconfig wlan0 up and it changes the mac address of the interface however i am no longer able to see the SSID or connect, i placed it bellow the comment that says do not touch anything above this line.
  2. You could use a script blocking application to block scripts from running on your computer and only allow on trusted sites. notscript and noscript are both addons for Firefox and chrome i believe.
  3. If the routers had a remote execution/access feature enabled and used a weak password/ has a vulnerability such as the one 2Wire had a while ago it would be possible for the DNS servers to be changed to a malicious one.
  4. If your router is maxing out its available resources a homemade router or higher spec one may be beneficial however in a DOS situation you will probably be limited by the amount of available bandwidth. I currently use untangle on an old PC as a firewall and router. I would try flashing open-wrt to the router if it supports it and looking at its resource use whilst under a DOS attack and throwing a couple NIC's into an old PC and using untangle or smoothwall etc as if you are not bandwidth limited a custom router would stand up better.
  5. Doesn't Facebook use HSTS which tells the browser to only accept HTTPS connections? I believe that certain browsers have a list of sites that should only be accessed over HTTPS.
  6. You need to make sure that it is not just a copy of the file system and is a bit copy as i don't think that deleted files get copied unless you make a bit stream copy, it might be better to find a live CD that is designed for recovering data instead of running an application of the drive and boot onto that with the original drive or clone connected and run some recovery tools on the drive, this prevents any log files being wrote to disk and can pick up more stuff but it comes down to how badly you need the data. In the past i have been able to recover data that was deleted a fair bit ago however that was on systems that did not get regularly defraged or any other maintenance as they were used by novice users. You say that a lot of the files appear unrecoverable does that mean that you were able to see the file name of some of them? as that is a good sign it was a bit copy.
  7. I don’t think it would hurt to try on the copied drive first as you have nothing to lose but I don’t think it will work unless it is a complete clone of the drive. If it was me i would boot up with the original and try to run recuva on a flash drive but i am not experienced with data recovery so there may be a better way. It also depends on how valuable the information is to you, if you absolutely need the data i would get a professional to look at it although that can be a costly solution.
  8. Recuva is free as long as it is not for commercial use, are you sure what you downloaded was from here http://www.piriform.com/recuva/download/standard?
  9. I have not had any experience with VMware but i am sure with virtual box you need to allow the guest OS to access the NIC via a setting in VMware or something along those lines. I may be completely wrong though.
  10. Thanks for the help i think i will have to look at this in a few weeks time when i have some time as it seems a bit more complicated than i anticipated, Is it only busybox pro that contains iwmulticall as i can not find it on my free version? I think something like the wifi analyzer could work if i could adapt it to set the phone to silent when it detects an AP.
  11. I have just tried atooma but it will only work if i am connected to the AP (unless i am missing something) however i do not wish to do this as the AP is open.
  12. Yeh I have rooted the phone and unfortunately iwlist is not available from the terminal, There must be some way intercepting the output the android os uses however i do not have a great deal of experience with Linux or android but i am still learning. thanks
  13. I am planning on creating an android app that watches for available WIFI access points and changing the phones audio level depending on what WIFI is available nearby(i.e. silent when at college), I have no experience with any language other than VB.net (useless i know) and don’t know where to start or if it is even possible. I was hoping someone here would be able to point me in the right way or let me know if it has been done before, any assistance would be greatly appreciated ,thanks
  14. I Had a simular problem with getting mass storage to mount and found that i had not formatted it in ext4 primary mode, not sure if you might have the same problem.
  15. I think i have found the soloution to the usb problem as i had formatted ext4 in logical mode i refomated as primary and i am now able to use it. I also Think i have found that the pineapple does not provide enough juice to power the ALFA adapter i have . Thank you for your support
  16. I have used a powered Hub and the problem still exists, I am also unable to start the ALFA adapter however it is detected but will not transmit anything. Does anyone know a solution?
  17. The pineapple is running from a wall socket outputting around 12.4v so i figured power was not the problem however when I insert a usb storadge device (I have tried the sandisk cruzer fit 16GB formatting with ext4 and several others memory sticks with the same format ) but after the usb light illuminates all but the power lights go out and the device will not respond. Can anyone think of what i am doing wrong or any soloutions to this problems.
  18. other than the pineapple will not work is there any damage that can happen if there is not enough power going to the device . thanks i will order one of those
  19. can someone please clear this up for me, can i just use a cheap battery holder and solder on a dc power cable onto it? and is there any danger in undervolting the pineapple?
