  1. My favorite still has to be the "Now pretend you are going to take a bite into your delicious hard drive sandwich" Part, haha!
  2. Yeah I had that until I think about 50 posts and a few days in. Don't worry it's not an error, it just takes some time, most likely to avoid spam accounts and such.
  3. I know pfSense does a pretty good job at stopping average attacks combined with the Snort plugin and a proper firewall with honeypots set up on various ports. Haven't had any try to DDOS me on a large scale yet, can't say that I want them to either :P . You shouldn't have any problems though unless you're attracting the wrong kind of attention.. like by hosting a Garry's Mod Dark RP server, gah.

    Battlefield 2142

I think all of my pre BC2 copies are lost by now. I have BC2/Vietnam on Steam and BF3 on Origin, haven't played 2142 in a long time.

    Payday The Heist

Used to play but it started to get repetitive.
  6. I blame 'The Walking Dead' for this.
  7. Had to look that one up, I don't follow much of anything those people do. I for one think it's kind of pointless. Sure you can transfer your files, but isn't it also true that regardless of how many people you have on a project, how well built it is, there will almost always be a flaw in the security sooner or later? Someone just has to find it first. That's what I was taught to believe anyways, maybe that's not the case in reality but that's my philosophy. I think it will be likely to come crashing down sooner or later.
  8. Just a little update if anyone wanted pics. Using Ubuntu for hostapd with a bridge to eth0 (and br0 instead of eth0 in Virtualbox). PfSense as my router distribution running Snort and a few other things like the active virus scanner. CPU usage and memory usage are fairly low at all times so I'm happy with that. The specs of the Optiplex GX280 Slim are: Pentium 4 2.8 GHz, 2 GB DDR2, 320 GB hard drive (don't judge, it came with it and it was free anyways!), Intel 1000mbps Integrated NIC, a Startech Low profile PCI Card, and the W722n previously recommended. In all, I figured why bother trying to get my ath9k_htc drivers in pfsense or untangle, if I could just virtualize it, been wanting to play with virtualization on a level like this anyways. In all, it was a GREAT replacement for my Netgear WNR1000v2, eliminating most, if not all stuttering in games (on Wireless too). With the Monitor plugged in (I usually just leave it standalone with network interfaces plugged in only as the bootup is automated). The TP-Link W722N in Master mode, WPA2 of course, maybe RADIUS in the future B) Anyway, just wanted to give a big thanks to all of those that helped me get this set up, it was a GREAT learning experience and I had some fun with it too. If anyone else is planning on doing something like this and needs some help, the parts I purchased/used are listed above and I'm usually good about responding to replies. Either way, thanks everyone!
  9. Why wouldn't it be branded? People do use these to troubleshoot their networks, it's not a purely malicious item.
  10. Just wanted to give a big thanks to leapole. I was able to get Untangle running in a VM under Ubuntu, where Ubuntu uses hostapd (no dhcp) and bridges to eth0 (also the LAN port) and it works GREAT. Much larger signal than I had with my old WNR1000v2 and the speedtest downstairs is no longer completely screwed over (previously you could only get about 4mbps downstairs on speedtest, and 20mbps upstairs) But now all of that is fixed. So thanks a lot leapole! Now onto deciding what to do with my poweredge ;)
  11. Crap, now I HAVE to buy one B)

    Media Server

Is subsonic a trial? I thought only the hostname usage was trial and after that you'd have to use an IP to connect. That can easily be solved with a Dynamic DNS Server such as No-Ip, which is what I use for mine. Functions great on my end.

    Proxies

I wouldn't believe so, plenty of people use them. A lot of Eastern nations use it to bypass United States copyright blocks on videos and music. It only makes you interesting if you start doing something illegal, and most proxy hosts will willingly give up info on you if something illegal was detected on said IP at a certain time. Same policy applies to leased VPNs, such as Cyberghost VPN.
  14. If anyone has to deal with this you really probably should just save up and get your own PC. I feared having to deal with programs like this ever, so I saved up and bought my own PC when I was around 9 years old (it took 2 years of saving too), but it was the best choice I ever made. Plus you don't have to worry about privacy issues really, and it's a great learning process (at least building one is).
  15. I still personally use the old assigning words to model names technique. For example, my old router was a NetgearWNR1000v2, and one of my old passwords was: Ny373ng1N3t0gr1nd31th3r@NdW3N3v3R1o0oV@cA73. Simple: No Engine To Grind Either And We Never Vacate. Total nonsense but it was easy enough for me to remember ;p. As I think Mr-Protocol said be very sure you disable WPS, that's one of the largest router exploits out there at the moment. Aside from that keep an eye on your router logs for connections that are unauthorized, as well as changing your password every few months or so (or whenever/if they ever break in again). Good luck to you! B)
  16. So you can allow certain connections through with the whitelist, while constantly deauthing others?
  17. I truly wonder how long it will take before they give up trying to stop piracy. You can never truly stop it, it will always happen in some way, shape, or form. They can stop the VPNs, but as is with technology.. something better and more innovative is just waiting for that push to be created. I personally can't wait to see what comes out as a result of the next few years. B)
  18. I personally loved learning RedHat/CentOS as my first Unix server distribution. As for Linux itself I just jumped around through a lot of distributions. Ubuntu, Arch, SUSE, Mint, and some others I can't recall at the moment. Linux Mint was one of the better distributions I tried just because of the out of the box GUI being so nicely designed, so you might want to try that one out. Only problem is there isn't too much to learn on Mint since it's more or less all set up for you, sure you download here and there, but depending on your needs you probably wont be hopping into the terminal too often. All I really use it for is school and Counter-Strike Source on my UL80VT. Whatever your choice may be, remember to have fun with it, and if you start to get frustrated put it to the side and come back to it later!

    Tribes Ascend?

Just wondering if we have any Tribes: Ascend players on here. I've been having fun blasting people out of the sky at high speeds for the past month or so now, and I must say it's one of the best Free to play titles I've played. Seems to be a lot of attention in the free to play market lately. First this, then Planetside 2 and even Mechwarrior: Online, can't wait for the others, what are your thoughts? If there are any players out there my name is Radau on Hi-Rez, so add me if you want to frag some people!
  20. Zero on my end, maybe it's just me. Yeah, still the massive red mark on someones page labelled 'BAD' can easily be mistaken as "avoid this person at all costs" to new comers, maybe they should re lable that to content rating or something. The whole idea is just kinda pointless in my opinion.
  21. Yes I know what it is, but why are so many users loaded with negative reputation, when I have rarely seen a negatively rated post. Is it part of an automated system as well? It looks somewhat like it's being abused, people going through and negatively rating the first post they see and moving along. Weird, oh well at least it doesn't truly effect anyone.
  22. Bit of a revival here, but I see this issue still has not been resolved. Kinda odd that more than half of the people on this website have a negative reputation, when they are the ones posting and helping out others.
  23. Meterpreter or a Remote Administration Tool with a built in keylogger/screencapper would be a good place to start, I think there's a section on Hackforums, I don't know if its still there though, haven't been on that website in a long time
  24. As with all Operating Systems, you'll get better with more use. I learned the CLI by forcing myself into a no window manager environment for a week or two, sure it was a big adjustment, but it was worth it to me at least.
