  1. They really need to construct a proper method of handling situations like these. Police shouldn't be able to just take all of your equipment that doesn't even pertain to the investigation because you ran a perfectly legal service offsite. It's possible to determine a relation to TOR right off the bat so the investigators really should have done a better job on gathering intel before showing up at his place. I mean come on, a pocket knife? an Xbox 360? They really need to get it through their heads that an IP address does not mean a person and that hundreds of people can be going through one IP address. I personally am grateful for all of those who run exit nodes, not because I use them, but because I have numerous friends in the darker places of the world where you disappear if you speak out against the government, and in turn require a method of at least kind of hiding your traffic.

    Game Night!

So a few of the people over at thenewtech.tv and I are trying to get a game night going this month. We still have to decide on a date but if you're interested here's the thread for it. http://thenewtech.tv...game-night.485/ We still need input on dates that work for people so if you want to throw some out there, go for it.
  4. Remember to do a torrent ip leak test too, there's a website dedicated to it. Most VPNs do have openVPN support so a dedicated box would work without interfering with gaming and the like though you may want to cap the dl speed on it if you do. Darknet application we're going to use let's you build a closed network of friends only that is very difficult to detect due to the strict policies on who you allow it to connect to. A proxy like digip suggested would be good if you buy a vps or something in bitcoin because if it's us based they're probably going to catch on. It would also allow you to anonymously download while gaming (depending on how quickly you top off your connection). You can also try proxychains under linux for added security but finding good free proxies is a major pain Stevie if it's US based that won't matter too much as with out logging and with a shared ip they couldn't help the recording industry if they wanted to. Worst case one server goes down because the isp cuts it off but that's usually a short downtime. Here's a few episodes you may want to watch for Proxies and SSH (3 episodes). Episode 1108: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL45C12B2F6283756A Episode 1109: http://hak5.org/episodes/hak5-1109 It could give you some ideas on what you can do, there are most likely hundreds of methods to accomplish what you want, you just need to find what works best for you.
  5. Thing is it would still take bandwidth up and could cause problems if the user wants very low latency when gaming and only downloads at specified times. As for the darknet if it's the guy I know I literally live down the street from his brother so constructing something through the freenet service in darknet mode would be very feasible. Weezl if you want I'll loan you my license at the LAN party. (Hoping it is the Weezl I know still lol) In other talk what ever happened to the supposed Hak 5 darknet Darren was possibly starting? Was it just a prank or is it on halt? I haven't heard of it for at least a year, know anything?
  6. If the user that posted this is the one that I know then the no gaming part will be a dealbreaker on that. The router idea seems nice but they are in different houses and I don't think he'd want his bandwidth taken up by his brother all the time. I don't know how far you live from your brother but giving him files he wants on a USB drive would also be a feasible option, what I'm going to post next may work for getting the files to him a little bit easier too (and those who want it). The offer still stands for the darknet if you're interested. Our plan is sort of to have those who can afford a VPN to get the content wanted by others and share it that way. I really hope I didn't just break TOS lol.
  7. Here's some more info on that if anyone's interested:
  8. lol weezl. While most VPN services may have policies against such actions, a fair amount have made it their selling point as of late. A friend back East and I are going around testing different VPN services at the moment and so far the best for torrenting are AirVPN (probably the best for all around anonymity) and Hidemyass (Not great anonymity as you may have heard, but decent enough for torrents). On AirVPN I get the full 50-55 mbps downstream while routing to their Vega (Oregon) server. That said don't try to game off of it, the latencies aren't super high but they're as unpredictable as other VPNs. Seeing as everyone runs a single IP from a server and they don't log, it's virtually impossible for anyone but the server to know who you are. On top of that if you're doing something insane they do allow you to route through TOR to their server so they don't know where you're coming from and your exit is secured. If you and your brother want to share them you have two real easy options with AirVPN, not sure about HMA, they are: 1. Only have 1 user use it at a time. 2. Contact them about a bundled license, I think you get a discount. Remember if you're trying to stay the most anonymous to pay through bitcoins which they do accept, I personally went to 7/11, got a prepaid card with $50 loaded on it, spent $20 on 3 months of airVPN (hopefully enough til this blows over) and the rest on various things such as replacement parts for my R.A.T. 7 or cabling equipment. Also, if you are the weezl that I know, Six Strikes got pushed back so you do have time to look around before the crackdown. Also I'm starting a darknet with a few friends across the U.S. if you want in (if you are weezl, assuming you are with the brother in another house part and vanwazltoff) with a few people, I mean ehm what darknet. No darknet here.
  9. I think he was referring to the upcoming six strikes policy which is getting everyone all riled up about privacy online, making it easy to charge for such a setup. Profitable? Yes. Ethical? Perhaps not. You should definitely look over at Facepunch about the Fast Download host thing, nearly every server requires a separate Fast Download host nowadays or it gets 0 traffic.
  10. AntiX looks cool, now if I could just find an OS other than DSL for my 133 mhz pentium with 32 mb of ram and 1 GB hard drive haha.
  11. He clearly said he didn't want to do bitcoin mining. Aside from renting them out in some way I can't really think of much, if you have the bandwidth a lot of people that use srcds servers need offsite download hosts, but that requires a decent dedicated upload speed (at least 500 kb/s per host if you're renting it out cheap).
  12. You could build a PfSense firewall and get a free Meraki access point by going to a webinar and signing up with a "business email" ( I used my clans email;p). Combine it with PfSense, tweak it a bit and you have a beast firewall and AP. If you're interested, I'd get it before Cisco finishes buying them: http://www.meraki.com/freeap
  13. +1 on GNS3, especially if you can "acquire" the full cisco IOS pack. haha.
  14. Check the fightforthefuture website, they might have some info on it.
  15. I myself don't have a Pineapple, but I know it's very possible with a laptop so I don't see why it would be impossible with a pineapple.
  16. Agreed, seek legal advice. Also if you do pursue legal action it might be in your best interests to delete this thread or they could use it against you and you won't stand a chance if they find this.
  17. Depends on the web host, I've never personally used domain.com. I was using hosting24 (regrettably) for about 2 months for a FastDownload host for a few game servers and it took about 6 hours for that to kick in. Not sure what the average is though.
  18. Did you set up the DNS record you want such as an A record?

    Which Android?

I believe he means model literally, as in international or U.S. models of the S3 (quad vs dual). I personally love my Galaxy S3 (U.S. SCHi535) and wouldn't trade it for anything. The phone size is too large for some people but I have big hands so it works perfectly for me.
  20. Maybe, either way Garry's Mod works just fine under WINE and there isn't that annoying issue where you're able to click through the chat box for Steam (wine) so I'm happy for now :D
  21. Going along with the above post I've heard of DBAN outright destroying SSD performance when ran. So if you are using an SSD don't use DBAN.
  22. I made the mistake of saying I ran fedora last month when the survey opened up....
  23. While I'm not sure the exact reason it's blocked I do know that a majority of nodes on Tor are monitored now so it's probably not the best idea to log in through tor alone. You could try to set up a proxychain on top of tor or a vpn. If you do either of those it should let you access the site unless they're strictly against proxies and vpns. I'm not sure but I think Cyberghost still offers a free 2 gigs of data on their free vpn option so you can test with that if you want to.
  24. The owner of the property probably worked out a deal with that ISP and other ISPs aren't allowed to install their service on the premises.
