I wouldn't necessarily say all thinkpads are thick and heavy. I bought a Thinkpad X201 (non-tablet) on ebay for $180, a 256gb SSD and another 4GB ram stick (total 8) and it's a pretty fantastic laptop for systems and network administration, especially with how portable the 12.1" form factor is to hold with one arm while working in network cabinets. If you need to run a ton of VMs it might not be the best course but if you have a dedicated ESXi system and Vmware Workstation or something along those lines it's great (I Just VPN to my home lab and spin up my poweredge 2950 over the DRAC for lab work). The 9 cell battery pack I bought protrudes a bit out of the back but doesn't add much heft to the device and really ramps up the battery life (I get about 5 hours on Linux Mint 17). Obvious downsides being the weaker GPU and no disk drive without the dock so gaming isn't a strong point of the X201. I personally love the X201 and don't plan on replacing it any time soon, 12.1" laptops aren't for everyone though.

We use Novatime where I work and it seems to integrate pretty nicely if your budget is open to it. We run it on our oldest server (2003) and it's going fine. It might have what you need so look into it if you want, maybe get a demo of it?

Last I heard it was still waiting on an audit, until then I wouldn't use it for anything remotely sensitive.

1. Not sure why you'd go listing peripherals and useless things in your Specs/Pics, but that's your deal. 2. Don't "Dox" people and attempt to intimidate them based on that. He's technically running a business and is most likely more than aware that he is easily found online. 3. These services are legal, plenty of small businesses use them over here on the West Coast. 4. I wouldn't go off saying "Real hackers view you as a lamer", since this is technically a cracking service, and the hacker definition covers a vast amount of groups, too vast to discern between fake and real. I personally would never use this service, I already have a network set up for similar tasks. For those at entry level or those that lack the equipment I can see it coming in handy, so keep doing what you're doing. For what it's worth, so long as you're helping people out I don't have a problem with it.

They're pretty split if you ask me. Fallout 3 didn't have the best story but exploring the wasteland was great, and the mods that existed were fantastic. New Vegas had a pretty tightly wound storyline but I found the exploration to be a bit lacking and even slow feeling. To each his own I suppose, but that's my take on it.

Depends what Vpn provider you're going through. Don't route it to your house or a free vpn if you want to stay hidden. AirVPN has been a pretty good one at $21 for 3mo with multiple locations to choose from. I hear nvpn is good too, that one usually gets recommended around Hackforums so you could look into it as well

I'm pretty sure you need to root it to get tethering working, though you could use FoxFi to create an access point that would feed off of your data and connect to that, I don't think that requires root access. I'd say you could probably get away with a Droid 4 or something along the lines of that, it really depends what you mean by "basic".

As it is it gets the job done when throwing it off of a switch with PfSense as the gateway. The setup is definitely better than the boxes that comcast gives you by default... lol. I guess for about 30 minutes of my time and a phone call it's great, but all the greatness in the world wont stop my Desktops wireless card from sucking so I just went cable with that, it's a gaming PC anyways. :) The only downside I suppose would be the fact that you can't do much locally, sure there's a landing page for basic diagnostics but if your gateway goes down and the power cycles... well... you have an open access point, so that's a bit of an issue I suppose, though at least your devices wont autoconnect to it so you aren't exactly vulnerable right off the bat, but I'm pretty sure they can still access your gateway so that's a downside. Still, can't complain with free!

I haven't opened mine up since it's my primary AP for my PfSense box. I guess this is kind of the problem with it being "cloud managed".

That may be difficult, it gets everything through their website, that's why if you hook it up without a connection all of your settings are just gone. At least that's how mine is set up, you may be able to mod it though.

We're probably going to have it on the night of the 15th after Mike finishes uploading this months episode of TNT and we all watch it. So what games on that list do you think would work for you in your current state?

Well I'm pretty sure a decent amount of U.S. branches have access to it as well so I don't see why that would make it a deal breaker. If anything it would allow them to lock it down more, although that's not exactly possibility in this specific case it would be for the president most likely. Honestly as long as you update it frequently, have a good active scanner/firewall, encryption and other basic methods of OS Hardening (depending upon if it's mobile or not) you'll be fine. At least it will be so long as you don't screw yourself over by using weak passwords, exposing it to a DMZ, not physically locking it down, or a variety of other things. Not really necessary to go through NSA standard preparation for a financial computer, though it's your call. Personally I'd use a flavor of linux such as Fedora with SELinux, modify it a bit if you want then burn it to a disk or usb and only pop it in for the off chance of you making a transaction. This could leave you open to vulnerabilities but the chance it would take to find one vs the time you're online isn't that great (so long as it isn't a very old version). If you're doing 24/7 then you should update at every chance you get. Upside to this is it'd be small enough to lock in a safe as well, though a laptop might fit depending on your safe size/if you have one.

We have some sealant for when I'm positive that I have enough cable out there (still need to hook up security systems), I bet an inspector would still hate to see it even afterwards lol.

I cheated and went through the attic with mine and dropped a cable right behind my gaming desktop then the other one down the laundry chute by the garage in another room, then ran it through the fire wall in the garage where I keep my servers. But don't tell any inspectors about that... lol.

I'd imagine it would be an automated system that would watch for suspicious and/or illegal activity. I highly doubt they have the manpower to sit there and literally go through every single packet unless it was for a person of interest, but a machine could do it easy. Hell they already dump all of our hotmail/gmail/yahoo email data to a storage server "just in case", I wouldn't be surprised if they did something similar but with all of this data. I guess we'll really just have to wait and see what happens.
