  1. Thanks Seb. I was just asking /what/ to read in the Wiki since time is constrained and it's so fragmented (please please please improve it). Someone in this forum suggested the older flash guide, which is why I referred to it.
  2. Rgds / WebDirector had a great link but since I couldn't quickly find a version of it in my region's Amazon / Google Shopping I went to the local Radio Shack (electronics store). They had an iGo with interchangeable tips that probably would have worked for $14 but the tips it came with were micro-USB / mini-USB, etc so I got this Enercell battery pack / power converter with interchangeable tips and variable power you can set to 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, or 12 Volts for $60. The type "M" tip fits the pineapple. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11343870&CAWELAID=909360354
  3. Should I be looking for something equipped/compatible with a tip (plug) of the same dimensions as one that's included? Does anyone know off the top of their head what those specifications are?
  4. Is it? Thanks for letting me know. I only saw the flash guide for Mark II and someone had mentioned I should read it. Fortunately I don't think I need to flash at the moment. I just walked in the door; I'm about to start following up on the suggestions in this thread right now.
  5. Thank you all for your help (!). That makes sense and I'm going to review the videos and more of the information after school today. I went through the flash guide (from Mark II) earlier and I think it should be straightforward to carry out in Linux, but I'm not failing to notice a linux version of the guide am I?
  6. Thanks, Mr. Protocol. This is the guide I was using yesterday when you helped me. The usage section was helpful, but a bit too broad because I still find myself not really knowing how to use the features. Like you say though, I probably just need to identify the correct episodes (or maybe find some third party materials?). I was hoping for something analogous to the "walk through" style guides for BT5 (http://www.backtrack-linux.org/tutorials/) but again thanks for your help!
  7. I got my MK4 recently and am trying to learn how to use it without annoying everyone with a billion questions. I have somewhat constrained time due to school and it seems like the documentation is (forgive me for saying this) a little bit fragmented. Of course, it's a community-style project, most users are more advanced than myself, and I might be missing something. So could you help me get oriented? I've read the quickstart guide and clicked on all the tabs/options in the web interface to do a little exploring. I wonder if there is some guide that explains each of the features in the web interface, like what happens when I click autostart? What exactly is Karma and where can I find documentation? It's a little confusing because terms like Karma and autostart aren't easily Google-able if you don't know exactly what you're looking for (Karma is a dictionary word and autostart brings up tons of stuff). Is there a good guide you can point me to, or perhaps an episode? I know the ep's are online and I have the WiFi CD collection, but the pineapple related ones I've found were just broad strokes descriptions (like the one with Darren sitting outside describing it) and I only have a few minutes per day that I can spend looking for info :/ Anyway that's in advance! - DarkApple PS I have been reading the battery thread and was wondering if the idea here is that you can avoid needing a laptop by using batteries + user programmed scripts activated by that one button to make it automatically record data for analysis later? Otherwise, I don't see how you could really use it disretely. Right now I am using it via an ultrabook w/ Linux and it attracts a lot of attention in public because I have to use 2 power outlets (the PoE isn't powering it for me and one outlet is for the ultrabook), plus a ethernet-to-USB converter, plus a USB port splitter so I can have the Linux flash drive + network adapter plugged in as well. That sums up to 2 external antennas, 2 power cords, tons of cables and lotsa little blinky lights that seem to scream "hey, this person is up to something odd!" LOL
  8. I found it in another guide -- it was "root" and "pineapplesareyummy"
  9. It's a nice effect! I can see you feel the same way about antennas that I do :)
  10. OK, so, I guess I probably should have asked how to set it up like that without the help of wp4.sh. Let's see what I can do though. I started off by loading BT5, plugging in my MiFi and Pineapple, assigned wlan0 as the wireless interface in WiCD so that I could get online, and ran ifconfig. Here are the results of that step: ~# ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr [omitted for "privacy"] inet addr:172.16.42.162 Bcast:172.16.42.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe60::432c:fcff:fe00:da7a/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:29 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:21 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:2252 (2.2 KB) TX bytes:2198 (2.1 KB) lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:103 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:103 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:11017 (11.0 KB) TX bytes:11017 (11.0 KB) wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr [omitted] inet addr:192.168.1.2 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::2c0:caff:fe42:4ec2/64 Scope:Link UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:3075 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:2753 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:3776875 (3.7 MB) TX bytes:401072 (401.0 KB) Interesting.. OK so, I went to grab the wp4.sh script again so that I could open it in nano and see what commands are used to setup the device in the way you prescribed. However, when I ran this script again wget wifipineapple.com/wp4.sh; chmod +x wp4.sh; ./wp4.sh; firefox http://172.16.42.1/pineapple & instead of hitting enter and accepting the default gateway, I pressed space then enter to see if that would leave it blank like you were describing (could you explain the intuition behind this, per chance?). Well that worked! :) Now it opens a working link in Firefox and asks for login credentials... the quickstart guide doesn't tell me what to put here... I guess it should be obvious? It's not Pineapple/Pineapple... Thanks again
  11. Thank you both. I'm going to switch back over to linux now and let you know how it goes. Btw peterfm -- I like your avatar. What's that like on the end of your Yagi, a gun scope/laser?
  12. P.S. I don't know if this could cause some conflict but http://192.168.1.1 is the default address of the MiFi (mobile broadband). Also, I was connected to the Pineapple via the included expandable ethernet cable --> may I ask which port I was supposed to be using? There was LAN/WAN and LAN/PoE. I tried both, but during most of the attempts I was connected to the LAN/PoE port. The WAN, LAN, and Power lights were on.
  13. I am having some difficulty following the quick start guide....I will follow the guidelines for requesting help: Pineapple Hardware Version (ex: Mark III, Mark IV, etc.): Mark IV... anything else is a stone-age paperweight ;) JK! Pineapple Software Version (ex: Shmoocon Beta, 1.0, etc.): Hmmmm. Would be whatever shipped with this first batch of Mark IV's. I'm not sure how to check and I would find out, but I just booted another OS to get registered with the forum and write this message. OS used to connect to the pineapple: BackTrack 5 R2 Network layout of how your setup is connected (including IP information): I was connecting with the default options generated by the code in the quick start, using a mobile broadband device for WiFi (MiFi) on wlan0, and an official Shannon and Darren approved Alfa network adapter. All the tools/options that are running on the pineapple when the issue happened: None Ping results from computer to pineapple: 100% packet loss Is the problem repeatable (Yes/No): Yes Steps taken which created the problem: 1. Loaded BT5 live 2. Got online 3. Executed the code in the quick start guide 4. Could not load the page in FireFox that tries to load at the end; tried to ping the device but could not. Error Messages: FireFox's "can't connect" message and the 100% packet loss in ping. Anything else that was attempted to 'fix' the problem: Nothing really. I see a lot of people telling other people to "flash" the device, but I don't know how to do that yet, so if that's my next step could you link me to a tutorial (or if that's a pain I'll find it, don't worry). Thanks in advance!
