  3. As for the question "What is a VPS" A VPS is a Virtual Private Server. It is basic a server that looks like a standalone box but in reality shares the same hardware as many other machines. This can be done using software such as Citrix Xencenter or Parallels Virtuoso. I personally would recommend staying as far away from the Parallels Virtuoso software as in many cases it does not support the latest updates and overall is a pretty crappy product. As for a home user I would recommend messing around with virtualbox to get a feeling of what a VPS is and the benefits of running one, such as truely optimizing all available hardware to it full potential. An Example would be setting up a clustered web hosting solution using VPS technology to obtain a super stable solution with minimal hardware.
  4. This sounds more like remote execution is disabled I would recommend enabling remote execution though powershell the information how to can be found at the following link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd347628.aspx
  5. I would also recommend having your hosting provider setup a proper PTR record and setup domain keys. also for added security enable an authentication requirement even for local host sending out so that if your machine gets exploited it isn't as easy for them to get your IP address blacklisted. http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/safety/content/technologies/senderid/wizard/ is also a great generator for setting up your SPF record.. its like SPF for dummies.
  6. Lunarpages.com is a great webhosting company. I am currently getting my VPS from them as well as managing a few dedicated servers. The support I have gotten from their support team is far better them when I was with godaddy.
