  1. look into Mesh WiFi https://seattlemesh.net/ uses CJDNS for secure, decentralized mesh networking CJDNS is a networking suite for meshnets that allows us to connect together securely by encrypting every connection from end to end, while at the same time being completely decentralized . CJDNS operates at layer 2 locally, and it can peer with other distant meshnets via a UDP interface on layer 3. https://github.com/cjdelisle/cjdns then look into Pro WiFI gear 31+ mile wifi links (if you get it higher on a hill it will go beyond +100 miles - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_horizon however with mesh networks in close proximity with each other ie every building on a street or in every car hills are not a problem) Ubiquiti RD-5G30 AirMax RocketDish Outdoor 5GHz 30dBi Duplex Dish Antenna http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/products/17003-ubiquiti-rd-5g30/ and building to building links even 120° Secter Antena MaxLink Sector Antenna MIMO 19-21dBi 5GHz 60-120 degrees http://linitx.com/product/maxlink-sector-antenna-mimo-1921dbi-5ghz-60120-degrees/13710 3x of them give you 360° covarge and with 3x sectors you can support 450 Simutanus wifi users (150 per sector with a pro wifi card) Pro routers + Pro Wifi Cards MikroTik RouterBoard 493AH http://linitx.com/product/mikrotik-routerboard-493ah-with-routeros-level-5/12258 3x MikroTik R52Hn 802.11 a/b/g/n High Power MiniPCI Card http://linitx.com/product/mikrotik-r52hn-80211-abgn-high-power-minipci-card/12801 you could get 2 Watt (2000 mW) WiFi bootsers WiFi Mesh would be much better http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_mesh_network Self Repair Self Seraching Redundancy & Security grows the bigger it gets Small Running costs
  2. Who needs to go out once a week you could give it its own 3G / 4G mobile connection on a top-up/pay as you go provider and upload to a cloud :) or if you have a number of them p2p-mesh data back to you
  3. I Know the SOLN1 isnt for everyone's pockets (However having 2 would allow you to save money on utility bills + Ears drop on WiFi connections 365 days 24/7 ) and yes there ARE other Options available for cheaper / or cost more but that the cool thing about projects like both Pineapple & OpenWRT Piratebox http://daviddarts.com/piratebox/?title=PirateBox is there very customizable projects and lots of new options popping up all the time for them (something unique & personalized yours too you) (Think about it 6-12 months of GPU BitCoin mining and one of these is yours) yet the data gatherd by one being permanently out there 24/7 365 days a year is a lot of data captured
  4. I think the Pineapple Mark V can run on solar power with a very little modification to an existing DIY 20W Solar power kit setup called the "SOLN1 Version 3" SOLN1 Version 3 - Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-Y5TvWpWoQ its build components list is here http://laserhacker.com/?p=92 a little down the page You could basically put everything into the back of the 20W solar panel Now with a 3x simple changes replace the Inverter with the Pineapple Mark V + DC DC Power Regulator ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ring-Automotive-RMS11-Voltage-Adaptor/dp/B001QXA5F0/ ) + For the optional 3 change (12v Accessory Socket - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Carpoint-523484-Waterproof-Buillt-Up-Socket/dp/B003I61DSG/ - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Accessory-Socket-Battery-Clamps-Crocodile/dp/B003SQ6U6Q/ ) and you have the Pineapple Mark V running on Solar power by day and battery power at night Whats Nice about the Battery pack is it has all the Control, Balance & Charge Circuitry on board Custom Polymer LiFePO4 Battery Pack: 12.8V 20Ah (256Wh, 16A rate) (24.0) http://www.batteryspace.com/custom-polymer-lifepo4-battery-pack-12-8v-20ah-256wh-16a-rate-24-0.aspx - Barttey pack is a little OVERKILL but will probs see the Mark V run for 7+ days without sun + Being LiFePO4 extreme temperature changes proof
  5. I just found something interesting an 8 GB Class 6 SDHC with built in WiFi http://www.eye.fi/products/prox2?postTabs=3 Be cool if you can Power the card on 3V (Coin Battery) or (a Few AA) run it in adhoc mode and with no passwords and leave it under a Table (Bar, library, fast food chain) Let a Few mates with Laptops / Netbooks /Smartphones know theirs an Interesting WiFi Darknet Hotspot there at that table with interesting videos / music / files within
