My router is connected to my landlord's router, which is connected to the Internet. Mine is connected to his through a LAN port. I reset my router tonight and ever since then I've been having connection issues. I've turned off DHCP on my router so that his router assigns IP addresses. This worked fine before I reset my router. Now, when I connect wirelessly to my router with one computer, other devices either can't connect at all or when they do connect my other computer loses Internet connection. Any ideas about what's going on here?

I just tried that out but couldn't get it to add a menu to the webui. My navbar.php was empty so I assume I just created a new one. Where should it be located?

Actually, I tried ettercap again when I got home just now before I saw your post and it just started working. However, when I use easy-creds, ettercap won't start. It starts everything just fine but the ettercap window pops up for a split second and closes. The last time I used easy-creds everything worked perfect, so I'm not sure what I've changed that's messed things up with ettercap. I've also noticed that in my Backtrack menu, I have two ettercap-gtk's.

When I open up ettercap-gtk and choose an interface it crashes. I go to sniff > unified sniffing > wlan1 and then it just crashes. This only happens when I choose wlan1, which is the Alfa from the hackshop. It starts right up if I choose wlan0, which is my internal card. What's up with that?

I'm trying to narrow down my exact problem and would like to ask what exactly happens when I click the module button? Does the pineapple just try to access "http://wifipineapple.com/downloads.php?modulelist" or does something else happen that I'm not seeing? Does it try to access something online that might be blocked in my area of the world? I live behind the Great Firewall if you know what I mean...

Okay, I've got it working again and can connect to the Internet once again. I'm not sure what fixed it but I tried to reset everything with the reset button and that didn't seem to work and then I noticed that it was giving my PC the wrong IP address so I set 172.16.42.42 as a static IP and it works again. However, I'm still having the same problem and can't see the module list. When I ssh and do route, I get the same as before but the only gateway listed is 192.168.1.1. Oh, by the way, I'm connected to my router through the WAN/LAN port rather than doing ICS because I wanted to see if a problem with ICS was keeping me from seeing the module list.

At first I could connect to the Internet by setting up iptables but now I can't get it to work... I tried rebooting and also resetting with the reset button but it still doesn't work. I think there's a problem with iptables because when I set it up using ICS it works just fine.

This is so weird. I've connected everything just like your instructions say but still no luck. I can access the Internet and can even go to the URL in the error I get from the pineapple. When I click on "show" to see available modules, it just says waiting for a few minutes and eventually times out. I'm stumped. Maybe, I'm just out of luck for now?

Ah, I got it! I haven't had much sleep and misunderstood what you meant. I was thinking that setting up NAT was to allow devices wirelessly connecting to the pineapple to be able to access the Internet. I'll try what you said now that I understand it more. Thanks again!

Okay, I have a question. I have the pineapple connected physically between my router with Internet access and my computer but how exactly do I get to the pineapple from my computer this way? I'm not exactly sure how to use the wp4.sh script because when it asks for the interface between my PC and the Internet, I don't know what to put. I guess it should be eth0 since my PC is connected to the pineapple that way and then pineapple is then connected to a router with Internet access but it won't let me choose eth0 since that's the same interface used to connect my PC and the pineapple. So, how exactly do I set this up when I've got the pineapple physically connected like you wrote?

Cool, thanks. I'll try that out later tonight. I'm sure that the pineapple can access the internet because I tested it by connecting to the pineapple with my phone and got online just fine. It's really strange because I can go to the URL from the error in my browser but the pineapple just can't seem to get to it. Anyways, thanks again. I'll see if I can fix it by physically connecting it to my router.

I've got the pineapple set up on a windows box with ICS going and it works just fine. I want to connect to a VPN with my windows box and have everything that connects to the pineapple share that VPN. I assume that this doesn't work automatically, so how exactly can I share a VPN connection with the pineapple?

Do you mean they're moving away from using dropbox? Is there an alternative way to get these modules? I've been working on getting a VPN setup on Backtrack 5 all day but I can't get network-manager-gnome to connect to anything. I mean, I can't even connect through my ethernet adapter... I can get to dropbox from my apple laptop and my windows box so I guess if I absolutely have to, I might set up ICS on my Windows box and try to get to the modules from there. It's such a pain...

So, I followed Darren's video for how to set up network manager in backtrack to configure a VPN and it just doesn't work. No matter what I try or how many times I do it, network-manager can never connect. I've followed multiple guides exactly how they were written and it just doesn't work. Anyways, does anyone know of another way to configure a PPTP VPN in Backtrack, without using network-manager?

Thanks for all the replies, guys. Mr. Protocol, I tried that but when I disable the LAN card, I can't ping the pineapple when I run the script. Here's exactly what I'm doing: 1. Connect to my wireless router and verify that I can get online using wlan0 (or wlan1, depending on what I'm using). IP address: 192.168.1.110 2. Start up the pineapple plugged into eth0. Reverify that I can still get online using wlan0. 3. Run ./wp4.sh entering all the defaults: Netmask 255.255.255.0 Pineapple Network: 172.16.42.0/24 PC and Pineapple Interface: eth0 PC and Internet Interface: wlan0 Internet Gateway 192.168.1.1 (my wireless router) Host PC IP: 172.16.42.42 (I assumed it would be 192.168.1.110 but when I set it to that, I can't ping the pineapple) Pineapple IP: 172.16.42.1 It looks like everything sets up correctly. I can connect to the pineapple just fine. 4. Click on Modules and then Show for available fusions. 5. Wait about ten years to finally get a timeout warning. So, am I not setting something up correctly? I've tested that the pineapple can in fact connect to the Internet through my PC. I enabled Karma to test it out and both wifi enabled devices were able to connect wirelessly through the pineapple to the Internet. I'm not in the USA, so could that somehow cause a problem? wifipineapple.com loads up just fine. Edit: Okay, so I just wrote all of that out so I don't want to delete it but I think I figured out my problem right after I posted. I tried to go to the URL for the module list and it looks like it's getting something from Dropbox. Dropbox is blocked in the country I live in, so I guess that's my problem. Is there another way to get modules that doesn't use Dropbox? I could use a VPN but I've had a lot of trouble setting up a VPN in BT5. Does anyone know of a not too difficult way to set up a PPTP VPN in BT5? Also, I should mention, I'm using KDE not Gnome. I noticed that Darren has a video for setting up a VPN in Gnome but not KDE. Maybe, I'll just have to make the switch back to Gnome... Thanks again everyone!

When I try to view available modules, I get a connection timeout every time. Any ideas? Is the problem repeatable (Yes/No): Yes Steps taken which created the problem: Started and connected to the pineapple. Error Messages: Warning: file_get_contents(http://wifipineapple.com/downloads.php?modulelist) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: Connection ti Log file information: Nothing out of the ordinary, I don't think. Anything else that was attempted to 'fix' the problem: Nothing really. I checked to make sure I have Internet connection and everything else on the pineapple seems to work just fine.

I can't say anything about your CPU question but I bought an Acer Aspire One 722-0825 two months ago and like it a lot. It's small, light, comes with 4Gb of RAM, and has a nice big hard drive. I can't say it's the fastest computer I've ever used but it's not so bad. I run BT5 on it and it does great when I turn off the fancy graphics on the KDE version. I've had some problems with Ubuntu, however. One problem is that if I leave it on for a long time the screen goes crazy like there's an short in the wiring or something, which I doubt is the case since it works perfect with BT5. Also, when I update the video card drivers with Ubuntu I get an "AMD Unsupported Hardware" watermark in the lower right hand corner. So, With all that said, I think Acer is a pretty good choice for a netbook. I'm fairly happy with running BT5 on mine but can't say the same for Ubuntu. Oh, also I should mention, if you want to do any sort of packet injection you'll need another WiFi card. I got the Alfa from the hackshop. The last time I checked, the card that came with my netbook can't do packet injection. Anyways, good luck choosing a netbook.

I went to ITT from 2005-2006 and liked some of the classes and actually learned quite a lot. However, towards the beginning of 2006 it all went to hell. One of my teachers just stopped coming to class. Half of the class was online and the other half was on campus. The online work was supposed to come after we learned the material on the campus. Even though the teacher stopped coming we were still expected to come to class (with no teacher) and complete the online work, which we hadn't learned yet. My friend and I complained that the teacher wasn't coming and the dean told us, "It's not my problem". Wow... Also, we were not allowed to receive a refund for the class and were not allowed to withdraw, so now I have an "F" on my transcripts from ITT. Luckily, that didn't stop me from getting into a real college shortly afterwards. With all of that said, I think it really depends on which ITT you go to. I don't think all of them are that bad but at least the one I attended was.

I had problems with dhcp3 also but with easy-creds. I ended up having to downgrade dhcp3-common and then installing dhcp3-server and then everything worked just fine. You might try that for your fakeap_pwn script too.

I can't give you a good answer, as I can't explain what was causing my problem exactly or why but I had the same problem before. Anyways, I downgraded dhcp3-common and reinstalled it with dhcp3-server and everything works fine now. I don't know if I got lucky and it fixed itself or that's a real fix, but try it and see what you get. Use Synaptic to downgrade your dhcp3-common and then install dhcp3-server. I hope that works for you.

Yeah, I tried the --ignore-negative-one command but I still had trouble getting a WPA handshake. By the way, the wifi card works perfect on BT5, so it must be something wrong in Ubuntu that's messing up getting the handshake.
