  1. I bought an Acer Aspire One ZA3 for $140 used. It worked great with BT right off the bat. I am happy with it, though I had to buy a higher capacity battery (the original battery only has a 3hr charge). I also bought an Alpha card just so I could get the Wi-Fi range. I know that is a little under your budget, but that is what worked for me. :)
  2. What I use as a streaming server is subsonic. Easy to configure. Though that is more along the lines of sharing your home music/movie collection either on a LAN or WAN. It's open source although so you can tweak your needs. May not be what you were looking for but could work. Why don't you just use active directory with shared folders?
  3. Alas I have been a victim of bot brute forcing. Since then I have buffed my security. I now use key authentication on a different port. (ie port 67839 rather then port 22) and close port 22 at my firewall. . I also have ddclient installed which bans an ip after 5 failed attempts. Also have disabled root logins.
  4. Also, armitage runs off of postgre SQL. Verify that is running, if it is installed.
  5. I have encountered this before trying to run airpwn. If I remember rightly, there was a bug release from Backtrack on this matter. It contained instructions telling you to re-compile and install the lorcon librarys. I'll see if I can dig it up again.
  6. Ok so I feel dumb. I should of probably done some more research before posting. Apparently all of my issues are with reaver alone, and are all addressed on reaver's google code page. Reaver does not like being used in conjunction with a spoofed MAC, and after a quick reset of my AP. It works fine. Also, it would of probably helped if I had an updated version of Backtrack. (apt-get update/upgrade)
  7. Ok. So I tried inputting "wicd stop" and "/etc/init.d/networking stop" and same issue. When I turned off the networking service I got a lot of errors. Same thing when I type "service networking stop" I'll post them when I get home. I am on my phone right now. Thanks!
  8. Hello all, I have been having an odd issue with backtrack for a long time now and I have been unable to come to no conclusion. First of all here is the current configuration I have. Acer Aspire One (ZA3) running Backtrack 5 r2 with KDE window system. With an Atheros AR2425 wireless card. The problem I am having is that it is almost like the card wont enter monitor mode intermittently. For example, recently I have been testing reaver on my home network. Sometimes when I bring it up, it works just fine. Others, it gets stuck on one PIN and will not go any further (time out). I know, my router does not block the use of PINS after a set amount of failed attempts, because when it does work, I can leave it for hours with no problem. Though when I try and resume, I get this issue..... But only sometimes. I know it is a problem with backtrack and not my hardware because whenever it happens I am unable to connect to my network legitamently either. Or any other network for that case. I get the error in WICD "unable to optain IP address". After a couple of reboots and a few bad words, it works just fine again. I thought it could be in relation to the common problem of backtrack not communicating with the D-Bus, but I fixed that issue. (http://www.backtrack-linux.org/wiki/index.php/Basic_Usage#WICD_Network_Manager) though that came to no avail. Please if anyone has ever experienced this sort of problem or knows where I can look to find the answer, any help would be appreciated. I know it sounds like an odd problem and I probably didn't clarify it very well. But it is almost 4AM and my head hurts so this is the best I can do haha B) EDIT: Also, thought I should make mention of this, after playing around with it. Sometimes when I set reaver with interface mon0 it tells me it is waiting for a beacon frame from the associated MAC. Though when I start airodump-ng I see the beacon rate going crazy. Sometimes it sits like that, other times it'll tell me it is switching mon0 to channel 1 (channel the router is on) about 10 times before spamming me telling me that it cannot associate the MAC with the ESSID. Once again, thanks in advance!
  9. Thanks for the replies everyone, yes I know it is an old piece of hardware lol. Though, hell it is a free piece of old hardware. You can't beat that price and I guess I can do something cool with it. I did manage to figure it out. I was using the ap51 flash utility incorrectly. Now, with that said and done, got it up no problems :)
  10. Hello, I apologize for reviving such an old thread. Though, I was digging through my storage the other day and I managed to find an un-opened FON 2100. Naturally first thing I thought to do, was to make a pineapple out of it. As I said it was un touched so it still had the original firmware on it. I was following the tutorial nicely, though when I came to step 9, I patched it and proceeded with the reboot (I commanded it to reboot, if that makes any sort of difference). Though now the problem is, it is not re-booting back up. I let it sit for quite a few minuets and nothing happens (no WLAN light comes on, also I don't see "My Place" on available networks) Did I brick my FON? I am confused as to what to do, I have even tried pressing the reset button at the bottom to attempt to restore the original firmware. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
