  1. Just ring MS, activation takes about 10 mins tops, 90% of the time I deal with an voice recording, the other 10% they transfer me to an call center. "Why are you activating again?" "PC Died" "How many times have you activated before?" "This will be the second" "How many computers or laptops is this running on?" "Just this one PC" "Ok, I am not validating your code, please be ready to enter the following five digit string in block A, I will read them five blocks at a time and the cursor will automatically skip to the next block" ... I've done it a lot :P
  2. Ok, I have a Linux based attendance system, I have no access to the system other than a web config and that only allows me to specify an printer IP address. I can print to 90% of the printers I have on site here (Network HP printers), what I am looking to do is setup a print server that will take the RAW data from the device when it prints and convert it to PDF and email. I've tried a couple of print server solutions including YAFPC 7 and also Brooks RPM however both require you to use a LPR / Queue name, which I am unable to specify on my Linux device. I've come across Anzio's Print Wizard which listens on 9100 and accepts the RAW input will redirect it to another printer, I am waiting for the USA to wake up so I can give their support a call and find out about the conversion / email step (which the product claims to do, but the configuration isn't avaliable within the software), worst case I could use a PDF printer and use a combo of both products. Has anyone had to do anything similar? Am I missing something simple here? I did look online for any source code samples prehaps listening on port 9100 and handling incoming traffic, but I found nothing (strange as it seems simple) Any help would be appreciated.
  3. I'd go with better home insurance. While it’s a nice idea to have hidden cameras, there’s nothing to stop them naughty crooks wearing masks. Plus by the time the Police review your evidence and actually get some leads and arrest someone, there’s nothing to say that the goods haven’t been sold on, which leads us back to replacing the items via home insurance.

    Prevx

Does anyone use Prevx? If so what are your opinions? Does anyone know if it’s possible to purchase a single license for Prevx and then run the software from a memory stick? That solution (while maybe less than legal) would be ideal for fixing random spyware infected systems, rather than having to purchase a separate license for each.
  5. Dell Lattitude, Precision and Optiplex are all fine systems, have no problems with them. I have used Dell for 8+ Years now, I always opt for 3 years NBD warranty and have never had any problems with Dell support.

  7. I use NOD32 on my personal servers, seems to work ok and no noticeable performance drop, keep in my that these are far from high availability production servers, we’re talking about SQL for a few obscure websites / test systems e.t.c. I had a manager who was of the same mind set as you people working on servers should know what they’re doing and to a point I agree, but for the sake of £300 a year I’d stick some AV on there. The last thing I would want to have to do is explain why our servers / network is down for the sake of a few hundred pounds.
  8. You can buy helment cameras. When I walk the dog in the country I always see cyclists wearing them.
  9. Infiltrator are you flying the Christian flag?
  10. A USB Defibrator hack/mod would be an interesting segment I say.
  11. Errrm lol? BTW did VaKo just give us his WPA key?
  12. I don't know of a specific offsite service, but there are thousands of them listed on Google. As it's a Windows XP box it should have NT backup installed, use this to backup data + system state, then shoot the .bkf file out to the Internet. Depending on the size of your friends business he may find something like a ReadyNAS to be effective for storage. For remote storage I would expect to pay $10 per month MINIMUM for a GB (this is just me guessing)
  13. I'd start looking at ServerSniff it will find subdomains, not so sure about actual URL's I think you'd have to brute force it or find an exploit.
  14. Also, try removing the battery and running the system purely off mains.
  15. I ended up reinstalling PHP from scratch (If I find the guide I used I'll post it here)
  16. I think it's time to get in touch with WD support http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/ph...amp;p_topview=1 That link takes you to the Knowledge Base (instructions on how to setup a WD Sync, I noted it asks you for a password hint, from looking at the images on the website it looks like you need to use a numeric pad to enter the password, could it be as simple as '1111' or '1234' ?) This link takes you to the support portal http://support.wdc.com/
  17. Prehaps what I wrote was a little misleading, I do not belive I created a php.ini within c:\Windows, however tutorials recommend that this is where the file should be located. If I move php.ini to this location I get the following information Configuration File (php.ini) Path "C:\WINDOWS" Loaded Configuration File "C:\WINDOWS\php.ini" However asp_tags doesn't seem to be configured however this problem gets even more werid, if I look at the core values from phpinfo() it tells me the local and master value for asp_tags is "On" I'm starting to think prehaps my php.ini is corupt in some way?
  18. Ok so I've read a bunch of tutorials and how to's on getting php up and running under IIS. Now I've 'kinda' got it working but I'm having a number of issues that I cannot make sense of. PHP is installed at C:\PHP and within the PHP directory is my php.ini I've gone into php.ini and enabled asp_tags, saved and rebooted the whole server, but the change hasn't taken effect. As mentioned earlier I've read a number of tutorials some of which suggest that php.ini needs to be in C:\Windows, so thinking that prehaps I've copied the file to this location I've manually gone to the directory to look for the file... but it's not there? So I've searched the whole server for php.ini and search has told me the only file it can find is c:\php\php.ini Now what is confusing me is the following;- I've renamed php.ini to something else and rebooted. Now asp_tags work BUT my sessions.save_path is incorrect (and not what I entered in my original php.ini file). When I run phpinfo() it tells me that the "Configuration File (php.ini) Path" is C:\Windows and that the "Loaded Configuration File" is (none), If I restore php.ini to c:\php then it tells me the same for the configuration file but tells me it loaded "C:\PHP\php.ini" Surely I've just done something dumb?
  19. Haha that's brilliant, I just have images of the lights in your whole street dipping while you reboot.
  20. May I ask why you dislike GoDaddy? I use them a lot for domain registration and email relay but have never hosted any websites with them (I've been thinking about using them for up coming projects)
  21. I'd use that website with a little caution. It recommended that my system needed only a 382W supply when I know only reccently I had to replace my 520W supply with an 850W one (I upgraded from 2 7600GT's to a single 9800GX2) I guess you're on a budget... which really does suck, but as I have said in the past don't scrimp if you can. A friend in work once told me "buy cheap buy twice". If (and that's a big IF) you can afford it try and buy a Corsair HX Series PSU, while I can't claim that they offer anything over and above any other large braded maker their packaging and overall branding rivals that of Apple (yes that's right, boxes that shit comes in does it more for me than the products themselves) :D
  22. eBay. Prehaps you'd get $25-$50 per laptop, you said you had several? $175-$350, add some of your own cash to it and buy something useful :)

  24. Get one of those 'top up' credit cards?
  25. I'm trying to work out if VaKo is trying to be funny or not ;) and I honestly don't know.
