  1. Hi sebkinne, Thanks lots for the reply, and for clearing up some of the fog for me! I will definitely follow your advice, sounds like even if it doesn't work, that doesn't necessarily mean that the device is bricked. Also, thanks for clearing up the redboot method, I guess I assumed that method required a *nix system to make it work. I'm going to go back and review that process closer, I'm certainly comfortable with tftp and telnet! Appreciation to all for the replies, and to sebkinne for all the hard work that goes into releasing firmware updates!! I'll attempt the flash tonight (after sebkinne posts the update that fixes the wifi issue) and report back with methods, what worked, what didn't, etc. Thanks again all!
  2. Thanks. Figured it was a lot like "imaging" is in the PC world. That's great news, now I'd just like to get a solid flash method down pat, the last thing I want to is brick my AP51 trying to update it. sebkinne: What method do you recommend for flashing the AP51 and this new firmware? Can you confirm that the GUI does or doesn't work to flash the AP51? If not, is there another method you could recommend that works well from a Windows 7 box?
  3. No worries brother, glad you got it up and going! I'm betting that there were those pesky "control-N"s at the end of each line. Deleting and re-writing it while in SSH probably did the trick. I think there's something buggy with the web interface and writing changes to those files, but I don't know for certain. I DO know that those "control-N"s were in there though, and removing them fixed the issue, and that ultimately was the same issue from v1.0.1 with Karma not starting. I'm just going to make sure I use vi from now on to edit those files and I suspect it'll all work out fine. Take care, happy phishing! :)
  4. Hey all, I've got a couple of questions I'm hoping you folks with a lot more knowledge than me about flashing these units can help with. This post may seem pretty n00b, but please bear with me, I promise I'm not a retard, just leery of bricking my unit and first time flashing one of these. I've got an MK3 I got from hakshop, updated to 1.0.2. I haven't done anything else with it, it's working fine. I'd like to apply this update (thanks sebkinne and all the contributors for all the fine work!!), but of course I don't want to brick the device. - Does flashing this code completely wipe out and restore everything to defaults like I got it from hakshop, except the upgrades of course? (fine if it does) I'm planning on doing this from a W7 box. I downloaded the FreiFunk EasyFlash ap51-flash-gui-1.0-42.exe, and the 1.7 firmware update from this thread. In the FreiFunk app, there are checkboxes for "create Nvram partition (for DD-WRT)" and "Uncompressed Load (Kernel with loader)" - Do I need to check either of those boxes? - I assume the .squashfs file is used in the "Rootfs" box, and the .lzma file is used in the "Kernel" box. Correct? Anything else I need to know before I hit "Go!"? Sorry for the kinda long post, and thanks any assistance in advance!
  5. On the one I bought the included U bolts didn't have anywhere to attach well. I'm going to leave the.plate.attached and tap a hole that fits the tripod screw. I had considered a method.of using rare earth magnets to attach it, but I don't know how that'd be with the antenna reception, so I'm going the tap route. Ill let ya.know how it works out.
  6. I feel like I can conquer the world!! I FIXED IT!!!!!!!! However, it appears that there is a process that needs to be addressed and this could reoccur. The problem was that the "ngrep.sh" file, just like the Karma issue, somehow wound up with a "control-N" at the end of each line!!!! Before I went in with VI to attempt a fix, I copied it to ngrepold.sh (to make sure I could get back to square one), opened ngrep.sh in VI, removed every "control-N" from the end of each line, commented all "ngrep" command lines but left the SECOND one uncommented (utilizes a .pcap file), then I saved it, and rebooted the MK3. WINNING!! Fired up the droid, opened some browsers which require logins, and VOILA!! COOKIE INFO!! So, there is definitely something that's buggy and needs to be fixed with regard to editing the files. I'm going to suspect it's whatever the web interface uses on that Configuration page that injects the "control-N" at the end of each line. I'm learning SOOOO much with this thing, getting back into linux is awesome...like riding a bike! :) Hope this helps anyone else with the problem that may arise. Darren? Is this an issue with the editing process that the web interface uses? that's where my trouble started, by editing the "ngrep" conf commenting in that interface. Anyhow, I'm so glad this is resolved!!! NOW back to what appears to be my device stopping/rebooting every 10-15 minutes once I start the ngrep process.
  7. Intreesting. Ive got.to run an errand and then ill fire it all back up and take another peek at it. I guess.I assumed that since the.MK3 is spoofing DNS, it would insist the target always look to it to resolve DNS, not sure how it could work otherwise if the target.can resolve on.another DNS server. Back in.about an hour! ;)
  8. "Paging Mr. Kitchen...Mr. Kitchen, line one please, Mr. Kitchen, line one." Anyone? I'm really stuck here. Literally nothing has been changed except to uncomment/recomment in the ngrep settings on the Configuration page, but it will not log anything. Creates the ngrep.log file, but it remains at 1 byte mo matter which options I choose in the ngrep configure.
  9. Where is it getting that 2nd DNS from? That's where id start looking. I ran it all straight up on.a Win7 box, using a droid to connect, and it worked flawlessly. Just enabled dns spoofing and example.com resolved to a page that says something to.the effect.of "THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF SPOOFING". Id guess that ipad is drawing from the 2nd DNS, or its cached that dns entry and uses it now. Id look into why the ipad has the.2nd dns entry.
  10. Alright, I bit the bullet and did a "restore defaults". Rebooted. It appears that "restore defaults" doesn't reset everything, as ngrep is still not logging any data. The configuration is still exactly as it was in my first post. Nothing changed, and everything else is working great, just this ngrep not logging issue. :(
  11. I'm tempted to restore the default settings, but I'm terrified to "restore defaults", I don't want anything else to go wrong or end up screwing something up and not being able to get it back. Anyone got any ideas? Logs I could provide? Configs to check? I've got PuTTY, just spell it out for me. I honestly don't know what could have gone wrong, the ONLY thing I did aside from power it up and watch the status page was clear the cache (using the button), and uncomment the one line/comment the other, and save the config. I did this in the Configuration page in the web interface. It worked initially, showing cookie info...a LOT of cookie info...but the command line was in that output too I noticed. Anyhow, I've checked and it's not outputting any data to /tmp/ngrep.log It creates the file. It's not there upon a boot, and creates the file when starting "ngrep" in the Status page. It never updates the file, it's always at 1 byte. Hell, I'll do the "restore defaults" and redo the 1.0.2 update if someone can reasonably assure me that it won't brick my sweet new MK3. Seriously, any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm losing my mind. :) Thanks
  12. Hoping someone can help. ngrep no longer seems to be capturing. - The web interface shows updates for all other items, but no ngrep info at all - connected with PuTTY, went to /tmp, saw ngrep.log was 1 byte. - opened ngrep.log with vi and there's nothing there, just ~ - copied ngrep.log to ngrepold.log, deleted ngrep.log, restarted ngrep (no change), then rebooted the MK3 So, it appears that ngrep isn't capturing any data anymore. I've looked at the commands on the advanced page, tried commenting in each, saving the conf, restarting ngrep and rebooting the MK3. Can't get it to capture any data. here are the command lines as they are shown on the advanced page of my web interface: ----copypasta begin----- #!/bin/sh # Capture Cookies ngrep -q -d eth0 -W byline -i 'Cookie:' dst host not 172.16.42.1 >> /tmp/ngrep.log # ngrep -q -d eth0 -W byline -O /tmp/ngrep.pcap -i 'cookie:' tcp and port 80 and dst host not 172.16.42.1 >> /tmp/ngrep.log # Capture Social Security Numbers # ngrep -q -d eth0 -W single -w '[0-9]{3}\-[0-9]{2}\-[0-9]{4}' dst host not 172.16.42.1 >> /tmp/ngrep.log # Capture Credit Card Numbers # ngrep -q -d eth0 -W single '[0-9]{4}\-[0-9]{4}\-[0-9]{4}\-[0-9]{4}' dst host not 172.16.42.1 >> /tmp/ngrep.log # Capture Passwords # ngrep -q -d eth0 -W single -i 'password' dst host not 172.16.42.1 >> /tmp/ngrep.log -----copypasta end----- This was capturing cookies and displaying the data out of the box. This appears to have started when I used the "Clear Pineapple Cache" button. I did this to make sure the web interface would be showing me new/fresh data, because I wanted to see how it would display passwords instead of cookies. So, i cleared cache, then I commented the cookie line, uncommented the password line, save, then restarted. Wanted to play with it and see how/when it would capture "password" info, assumed this was the way to do that. It never did work after that. I recommented the password line, uncommented the cookie line, and still nothing. I've tried both cookie lines. Nothing. Sorry for the verbose post, but I wanted to include all the data, hoping someone can assist. Any suggestions I can try, or things to look at? Thanks, I've burned about 2 hours on this now just trhing to get my ngrep back, to no avail. frustrated. :(
  13. If you're using Win7: - Did you follow the instructions included in the box? EXACTLY? If so: Open a command prompt and ping 172.16.42.42? Did you get a response? If not, you haven't setup the networking correctly, as .42 is your wired ethernet if you've done it right. If you CAN ping .42, can you ping .1? If not: - have you tried a crossover cable? (I don't think that'd be an issue, but there's an off chance it could be) - have you tried the cable to make sure it's good? If you CAN ping .1: Can you see "internet" when you fire up a device and look for wifi? Edited to add: Pineapple is the SSID until Karma is enabled, then the SSID is "internet" If so, then the wifi on the pineapple is working as shipped from hakshop.
  14. WIN!! I was just about to go hunting around for the instructions to build the usb power cable!! Thanks for all the great info, very helpful!!
  15. Download PuTTY Install Connect to 172.16.42.1 login with credentials provided in the documentation Hope this helped.
  16. Hey all, Everything seems to be working fine, except after about 10-15 minutes of running (I've got Karma, URL Snarf, and ngrep enabled), the MKIII stops responding. I just notice that when looking at the web interface, it stops updating. I'll then try to ping 172.16.42.1, I get nothing. I then open PUTTY and try to connect to 172.16.42.1, it times out. I then see that my client I've connected with cannot connect to anything. I then notice that the web interface will no longer respond. I have to literally pull the plug on it and power it back up. It takes a few minutes to get back to where I can reconnect it with the web interface and all works fine again...for about 10-15 minutes. Any ideas? Do I have faulty hardware? All the software seems to work fine until it stops responding, and works fine again when I power cycle the MKIII. Thanks for any assistance. ***UPDATE*** I'm pretty sure this issue is due to the MK3 running out of storage resources when running "ngrep", maybe someone can confirm. While logged into the MK3 via PuTTY (with a Droid "victimed" and having a browser open), I went into the /tmp directory and did an "ls -l". no ngrep.log or ngrep.pcap files yet, as it should be. I then fired up ngrep using the web interface, went back to PuTTY and did an "ls -l" and sure enough, the ngrep.log and ngrep.pcap are there, and started out @ ~20,000 bytes. I repeated the "ls -l" every 2-3 seconds, and watched both these files grow EXPONENTIALLY with each repeated listing. After 20 seconds, both files were up to 622,602 and 633,995 respectively. At that rate, surely the pineapple is going to choke in 10-15 minutes unless there's some way to slow it down, or figure out why there's so much data in there, which is why I suspect this is what's ultimately causing the lockups/reboots. All I did on the droid was open a website which reuqires authentication. I didn't even refresh the site, but these files grew like crazy on the MK3 every ~2 seconds. Anyone with any ideas? Does that seem like normal behavior? Am I doing something wrong? Is there something else wrong? Anyone? :) Thanks for any help!
  17. Oh man, thanks everyone for the assist, and thank you wcs SO much for posting this follow up, AND for posting the "linux n00bz" vi piece in there!!! Just got my pineapple today, ran the 1.0.2 update before doing anything, and sure enough karma wouldn't start. God I love you guys, this is going to be a helluva lot of fun! Thanks again to all!!

  19. I just came in to post what I'd found! Cosmic! :) I don't know exactly what Darren used, but I looked closely at the image at the shop and think I got the same tripod. I chose an adjustable scope because the adjustable was only a few bucks more than the single magnification. I bought them both on Amazon: Vanguard VS-82 Table Top Digital Camera Tripod - $27.?? Barska Rimfire Riflescope - The adjustable one (3-7x20) - $14.?? Maybe Darren will weigh in and tell us what he used? ;) Either way, my Yagi shipped yesterday, and so did my Amazon stuff, so I'll stop back in and share how it all worked out (or didn't, but I think it will be perfect).
  20. Its just more of the same...a government actively subverting the Constitution and removing the rights of citzens through regulationand legislation. The government fucks up everything it touches, the Internet will be no different. They have no business deciding content. Period.
  21. Exactly what I'm looking for as well, looking forward to some of the suggestions. The timelinex looks pretty like a good balance between price/power/features, but because I'm a relative n00b on the Linux side and I'm also planning to setup dual boot with W7/Linux I'm looking for something that that is well-supported on Linux so that I don't have to do battle with getting hardware up and running.
