  1. 'Are you saying you have 2 virtual machines under VirtualBox communicating with eachother via host-only?' Yes and static IP addresses didn`t work for me via itnernal entworking and I didn`t manage to set up Vbox DHCP
  2. Hey, if u gonna use 2 VBoxes ~(I had the same problem in the thread Virtual Lab/SMFE) then use Host-only adapter, that will make ur VBoxes be on the IP level. Internal networking didn`t work for me (VBox Version 4.4)
  3. Yea, but they won`t have a direct IP level access to each other. Anyway, I think I solved my problem... silly me... I jsut set it up to Host-only adapter... and now both VMs are on the same network Thnx for help though :) Gonna test the lab ot after the weekend.
  4. I prob. have some holes in my networking knowledge but how can they ping each other when there is NAT (NAT translates only TCP, UDP as far as I know) Let`s say that it will work... but problem is that both machiens have exactly the same IP address when I set up NAT (Maybe a vbox thing?
  5. I am prob. doing something wrong when setting up DHCP on vbox the last part of the post doesn`t make sense mate, sorry :(
  6. Today I managed to ping attackers machine from WinXP victim`s machine but not the other way around. When I was pining form BT5R1 it just didn`t move and got stuck on pinging [address] I had internal network set-up and I manually set-up IP address for BT5 t o the one WinXP had via it`s DNS. There is no default gateway but from what I remember it`s not rly necessary as it`s the IP address fo router and it`s used to connect ot internet as far as I know(1 machine sends it`s request to that address and then it it is routed outside of the network from there and it also recieves the response via that address). Then I set up all connections (NAT, Bridged and internal network) on both VMs and tried to ping the XP machine from my host as u requested. All failed. Bridged and Internal got 'general failure' and NAT got 'connection time out'. Backtrack VM didn`t have any IP address set up automatically (no default DNS I guess) When I come back I will prob. try booting up ubuntu as well and see if it can ping WinXP and vice versa. Taht would mean that I will only have to play with BT5 config. EDIT: Might be worth mentioning that the WinXP shows 'Limited or No connectivity' EDIT2: So I tried 'Internal networking' for Ubuntu as well. Same ting happened. no IPv4 address and when I set it up manually I can ping it from WinXP but not vice versa.
  7. Hey, ty for a reply, If I use NAT I will indeed have a different IP address on my VM then on my host but when I have 2 VMs they still can`t connect to each other (usually they even have the same IP address as ofc. thats the job of NAT to translate them) So as far as I know it still won`t help me connect attacker`s machine with victim`s machine (both are VMs). Tell me if I am wrong though. Ah, I see, I wasn`t clear enough. Sorry for that. I want to connect 2 Virtual Machines together. Not my host with a VM. Might be worth mentioning that my Host Os is Win7. Cheers
  8. Hello, I am watchingSecurityTube Metasploit Framework Expert and I got up to part 16 but now I want to create my own lab (I am not willing to pay for one... ) so I found some old WinXP CD (unfortunately it`s SP2) and installed it on VirtualBox VM. Now I can`t figure out how to connect them. (I figured they should be on the same LAN so that it will work, am I right? At least I think that`s what VIvek`s setup looks like. I assume there are ways to break into a machine using metapsloit and there is no need to be on a same network but I figured as a beginner it would be better to start with a LAN, especially because that`s what`s going on in the videos (still just my assumption)) So I tried Bridged connection. Didn`t work as both machines had completely different IP addresses. Then I tried Internal Network option in VirtualBox and that resulted in no IP address as the DHCP server isn`t working for that one. (I got na IP address from WinXP) So I treid t set em up manually on same network. didn`t work. I couldn't`t ping the other VM. I tried setting up BT5 to the same IP as WinXP got automatically. No success again. Now I am lost, Can anyone suggest my next step? (I already googled and I didn`t find anything)
  9. Where to start? Fundamentals, understanding packets, WEP, ...
  10. Srsly dude ... try it out, use software and then ask exact questions, not just 'I wanna crack my neighbours network, HELP' Even though u got more responses than I did so I guess ur system works better :D
  11. BUMP I was thinking. Would Ethernet cable allow me to do so? If I buy anything pretty much? There are some good deals at one website ATM so it would be nice to know it soon. Also, its weird to see some older APs/routers being 2x more expensive than some new ones and they pretty much have the same functions but the old ones usually dont have 810.11n ... I really want to set up my own network cause 'owning' neighbors network isn`t that much fun. I will learn more by practising many stuff on my own network ( I assume)
  12. --band <abg> : Band on which airodump-ng should hop That is airodump but its part of aircrack as far as I know and when I try it Error: invalid band (n) Also I found a cool tool airbase-ng which can be potentially used for 1st few basic things I will learn (it will stimulate the AP) but for that I need 2 cards that supports monitor mode and because I am unable to use ethernet to connect to internet so I can`t use a dual-boot on my Desktop PC cause if my PCIe Card isn't supported by BT5 I am pretty much w/o internet and won`t be able to download drivers for it. And laptop cards usually doenst support monitor mode so I won`t even try with that EDIT: When you say that I should buy a used AP/router it sounds like it doesn`t really matter what do I buy ... is that true? I feel like I won`t be able to do what I want with anything
  13. #######Spoiler Alert, Noob inside######## So today I received my Alfa AWUS036NH card. I bought this one cause I was recommended AWUS036H one but that supports only 802.11b/g and my network is on n and I want to test and and teach myself on it. I searched the forum for some feedback and I found that it works so I ordered it. so my question is, why does airmon supports only bg? Does that mean I won`t be able to monitor my N-network and traffic on it? or does that mean that I will use a different tool? Would wireshark do the job? I am still only at the beginning of my 'education; on WiFi sec . (I wanted to ask diff. question about drivers but I realized I prob. had only bad configuration of VM) Also, does anyone know a good virtual access point/router that I can use to train and I can set it up with whatever encryption and settings I want??? I don't have any hardware one available and I am unable to change the one I am using to connect to the WAN and I have 2 laptops so I could still use one a s a victim PC'.Would Vyatta do the job or it doesn't serve like that? I try to do a SecurityTube Mega-primer and I can`t really continue w/o an AP. Or if I want to buy one, what should I get if I want to connect it to my 1st router and then I would want to use my 2nd AP as a lab so I can set up different encryption, etc. on it without having to change any settings (or at least not the security ones) at my 1st router. I thought I should get AP/router that supports DD-WRT but I read that it needs to be set to a same encryption ( so if I ahve WPA2 I will ahve to set the AP to WPA2 as well) Is there actually a way for me to do what I want to do?
  14. Yea, makes sense time to write a scripted email °) Hereis my spread sheet with some comparisons I need to pick one more Uni (or dismiss Digital Forensics from Abertay)
  15. @ Bobby: And how should I do that? I tried to google few from Abertay but I am no google guru (yet) so I didnt find out that much
  16. Hello, I would like to pick 5 universities to which I will apply(in UK). However, I need to compare some of the courses and their modules to pick the best I am doing a spread sheet ATM with some stuff but I need a bit of help + ur opinion on different modules or course in General Scotland Abertay, Ethical hacking -This oen looks the best and is my priority Abertay, Digital Forensics -Back-up for the same Uni (I rly wanna get to that Uni) Theese 2 are choices that I wont change on 98.6 percent Caledonian Glasgow -Security,Forensics and hacking -doesnt look bad, most likely no.3 choice Napier,Edinburg - looks horrible England Coventry -Look at What will I study , click find out more for modules Northumbria Sheffield Humbra I am mainly comparing these other Unies to Abertay However, I would liek to ask you what do u guys think are modules that are really necessary or which modules are 90percent worthless For example, how relevant is math? or Object Oriented programming? Or anything else that looks like a waste of time. Obv. to become a good "hacker" or jsut a pen tester I would have to study on my own anyway but it wont stop me from going ot Uni and experience the student life (I took a gap year) and it would be ncie to actually learn something while doing that. And oppinion on Digital Forensics vs Ethical hacking? I will look more into different modules at different Unies tomorow and try to make ain depth analysis and I will also update and post in this thread about my concerns, etc. Anyway, feel free to say ur oppinion Thnx guys SHade
