  1. so a powered hub would solve the solution of that, but could possably back-feed into my fruity baby, thus making it a very pretty paper-weight? hmm.....

is there a way to safely have a small hub (2 ports is all i REALLY need) so i can have a second wifi anttena (alfa) and my USB storage? any recomendations then? i have a computer store in town that carries almost anything if i look hard enough...

Did you read the posts in this thread? I linked you a powered one that does not require any cutting, and a search of the forum will yield you several more..............

The difference in power consumption between a 2 port and 4 is negligible if the other 2 ports are not in use.

  2. so when im using my pineapple with my alfa is that not using the same princaple? all i want is to use a USB for storage+my alfa for passthrough

The problem is that the more items you add like your USB for storage and even a passive hub the pineapple will be unable to provide enough power for all your accessories. Rather than the pineapple shutting down it will just start to act unstable or unreliable.

  3. Hello !

You are going to want to purchase a POWERED USB hub if the one you actually own does not have a power option. The one you linked has a wall power adapter but I do not see one in the picture of your gear.

If your USB hub is capable of getting power from an external source cut the end off and modify it to get power from the battery pack.

***CAUTION*** make sure that your USB hub does not back feed power to the pineapple, if it does you will need to cut the red and black wires on the cable that connects the USB hut to the pineapple.***

EDIT: If you have questions on how to mod the USB cable or more info on the subject of USB and powering the pineapple have a look at this thread: http://forums.hak5.org/index.php?/topic/27504-usb-power-wifi-pineapple/

  4. I typically just connect to my pineapple with a laptop directly to it. But you can do that and instead of having a meterpreter listener or anything on your laptop, just have it on a server at home that is setup for listening or use a VPS in that aspect. You can have it running and ready for connections. Then you re-direct users with your pineapple to your VPS fake site and the only load on the pineapple would be the passing of traffic through it. (In theory)

Got it, kinda what I figured but figured I would ask. Sometimes someone has a crazy cool way of doing things I haven't thought of =) Thanks for the replay.

  5. I have verified that I am receiving power from the USB Hub alone. I have tried it with both the red and the black (each on their own) plugged into the battery. Do I need to clip a couple of wires on the black male to keep the power from back feeding? I'm guessing the iwres clipped from the red male are the data wires, to make it a power only connection.

You do not need the red or black.

  6. I have a semi-related question. I recently received my powered USB hub from the Hak Shop and understand that the red is for power and the black is for data. I was under the impression that the hub itself would not power the pineapple, but that seems not to be the case. I opened the hub and it appears two of the wires from the red have been cut, presumably to avoid the back feed issues I have read about in the forums. My questions are, should the hub be providing power to the pineapple like this, is there any risk to my MkIV, and if the answeres are yes/no respectively, should I still be running power to the pineapple in the traditional sense to ensure proper functioanlity?

The equipment being used is the MkIV, the Hak Shop powered hub, and the Anker Astro 3 10000 with a USB to barrel adapter.

Try this, plug the powered USB hub into the MK4 and nothing else, then connect power the USB hub, if the pineapple starts to power on then you know the USB hub is back feeding the MK4 and it is a problem.

  7. Hey I just wanted to point out that Im not sure if you guys noticed but when you are suplying internet to the pineapple some clients will cache the origanal ip and not be dnsspoofed, made worse if they use https/ssl.

using these commands you can redirect all clients based on traffic and not dns lookups

    iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to-destination 172.16.42.1:80
    iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 443 -j DNAT --to-destination 172.16.42.1:80
    [/CODE]

I will look into adapting my module If people really need this???

at the moment I don't know how to remove just these two iptable commands in order to switch off without rebooting?

and a way to check that these commands are enabled?

I for one would really like this to be incorporated into your module. I don't always rick roll but when I do I use your module =)

Every little bit more makes this awesome module just that much better!
