  1. Posted on behalf of SomeoneE1se on IRC, who refuses to use the Forums, but wanted to voice his opinion on this topic: if it's gmail you can have it forward all of your email to you're phones sms, and that if you really need google over yahoo for search you're doing something very wrong because you should already know that a google search will tell you how to break past the schools proxy
  2. obviously you are not going to be helped.... BUT I will chime in at this point anyway. you can live 8-10 hours without checking your "email". If you can't, then your priorities are wrong. Lastly, no matter what you do if the IT people know what they are doing, (and yes even if you think they don't, they probably know something about their job), everything gets logged in more than one place. for the record, I am speaking from first-hand experience, as I am an IT admin. I have been told that I don't know what I am doing... but I bust kids all of the time... full logs, screenshots and more. So... I won't ream you more than that, but you don't deserve to have network access if you think life is unfair for you.
  3. unrealircd has a decent readme file and sample config file that makes setting up an IRC server easy However I think gmail, msn, aol, icq or other form of chat may be more suited.

YEah.... its called don't kill the app anbd do the work you are supposed to be doing, instead of trying to get away with anything you can. It is afterall an educational institution, not a game room.
  5. Gah.... Somebody needs to learn how to use a dictionary, thesaurus, and spell check. I almost wish I could lock this thread and start a new one with coherent messages.
  6. What is "UR traffic"? is it: Unrelated Traffic? United Relief Traffic? Tell el-Mukayyar, Iraq Traffic? Underground Resistance Traffic? University of Rochester Traffic? USE REAL traffic? ...... O I C NOW.... YOU MEANT "Your". This is not SMS, or shorthand class... USE REAL words.
  7. the issue is, the mail server isn't getting a confirmation that the client, in this case the blackberry, has received the message, so it is sending it again until it gets confirmation. when this has occurred on pop mail with Thunderbird, we allow the client to download all messages, thus clearing messages from the server, and starting over. Since this is IMAP mail, I'd suggest going into this user's webmail and deleting or moving to another folder all messages in the inbox.
  8. http://www.isafe.org/ it is what that site is all about.
  9. actually... its Irc://irc.mintirc.net/hak5 or http://mintirc.net/java/

well actually... I lied... I am an admin for a school... and I gotta say thank you shonen for being very honest about this and thank you for trying to educate others about the security hole. What I might suggest is to email support and explain your findings to them before publicizing it next time though.... So rather than helping other kids get around it, help the developers code a better built product. to those who want to pwn their school... I'm sorry that your IT people aren't as good as they should be. but the same goes to you as well... rather than trying to pwn the network jut because you can't live without the greatest thrill online for 8 hours, help the admins by letting them know where the problems exist. Just don't act like you know everything, because you'd be more likely to get ignored. Shonen, again thank you for taking the path of not really wanting to pwn everything, rather you took this as an opportunity to learn and teach others. Good idea, just take one more step into the mode of thinking "I wonder if I can talk to the developer to help them make this product better." -Manuel

I actually am interested in finding out how you did this. At my school they use Lan School as well... and I hate that software. damn thing is annoying. can you pm me instructions how you did this? TIA Manuel
  12. you need to forward ports 20 and 21 from your router to your computer. http://portforward.com/ So if your computer is 192.168.1.2 from your router you'd get to port forwarding, and forward port 20 to 192.168.1.2 and do the same thing with port 21. Secondly you also need an FTP server if you aren't already running one. http://filezilla-project.org/
  13. and posting to it to merrily complain about that fact isn't helping.
  14. meh.... Nobody said you had to read all the bull.... trust me, I never do.
  15. XP AntiVirus (known by many names) is a prime example of what the OP is discussing. That said, good anti-spyware/virus software is the next best thing. The other thing is don't trust much of anything on the internet... I personally have not had a probelem with this crap, because I'm not trying to access much other than what I know is usually good. Stuff which is questionable, I use a vm along with software virtualization... Yes, it may be overkill, and it causes things to be slow, but its the only way I try even the most questionable software. my point is: this isn't much of anything new to the IT world. ;)
  16. Quite teh opposite, actually... this user wanted Darren to know, but felt it easier to go to IRC, rather than forums, where Darren and cast frequent more. IRC is not frequented by cast much at all, unfortunately.
  17. I'd suggest installing cacti ( http://www.cacti.net/ ) It does pretty good and has several plugins that can do exactly what you want.
  18. I'm posting this, because I was accused of making the show look bad. The sad part is, IRC is not what makes the show look bad, its the show itself that makes it look bad. I've slexied the log because it's yet another prime example of what is wrong with the show. http://slexy.org/view/s20MnOoa7N
  19. /me chimes in and says : WTG Moonlit! you tell em for me :)
  20. exactly.... because even though I work for a Podunk, small town school district, even we verify grades 2 separate times before they go on report cards or progress reports. part of the verification is the teacher still checks the hand-written grade book, with the online version, then make sure the grade book is averaging things like they want. of course this isn't the whole process, but enough to say I agree on the *cough* bullshit *cough* line.
  21. HINT: Keep an eye or two out for what Wess has coming up in the near future. I think Ya'll will love it.
