  1. That was gonna be my backup plan for when i get my own internet access
  2. I've tried a couple different proxies that work on other programs, but so far nothing that works with steam. If anyone knows of proxy servers and settings that work with steam, or another idea, please let me know
  3. did you scan your system for errors/malware/virus'/rootkits? dont forget to check the registry as well for errors esp if its effecting multiple browsers Also, when you uninstalled it, did you make sure every component that it installs, INCLUDING registry keys, were removed from your pc before you re-installed it? did you make sure to clear out all temp files and restart you machine before re-installing it?
  4. I agree. I couldn't imagine just leaving someone on hold like that. Plus, if you work for a company, that would be a good way to get a customer/client complaint, and one step closer to have them boot you out the door. One method i have done is told customers is that i cannot help them any further on the phone and that they would either have to come in, or pay for a tech to come to their location. Because of coasts, they usually bring in their computer and it makes easier to get them out the door after that without any more problems dealing with them and then they no longer seam to have a problem. One of the best services i've seen is charging someone $100 to come to their house to train them on how to use their equipment for an hour, and $50 an hour after that. either you make alot of money teaching them how to use their equipment, or you make alot of money repairing their equipment over and over because they cant learn no matter how many times you tell them because they need to be trained (with examples) over and over again untill they get it
  5. The point is to create an internet connection, the game will be played on a network and steam doesn't allow for any type of network game in offline mode. I prob wont have time to try this tomorrow, but will this work if i use my netbook as a gateway with the proxy settings and hooking up a router on the other end? I dont see why it wont but that also doesnt mean that it wont
  6. So about 8 months ago the IT's at my college decided to block all traffic going through the network except for port 23 on intranet only and port 80 and HTTP to go out. The problem is that now Thunderbird, Steam, and most other programs are blocked through the school, and yet about twice a month we have video game night at the school. All is needed is the ability to allow certain programs/services to connect to the internet, and I have been trying to find a VPN service that uses port 80 and is free. The only one i've come across that works is openVPN, but it only allows 100MB on the free version. The internet connection would be used to allow the Xbox's to connect and download updates so that they can work together, and to connect to steam so we can have a networked games b/c steam doesn't allow you to create a network game unless you connect to steam (that and that their are alot of problems that can occur if you didn't run the game you are trying to play and restart steam in offline mode before going to a location were you cannot connect to steam). The schools IT's don't fully understand how to full configure a Firewall settings on the network, let alone how to throttle, which is why they blocked all but port 80 and HTTP(S) going out. The college is incredibly small and their are about 2 IT professionals at the school. They use something called Help Desk that they higher ppl that can only perform basic troubleshooting tasks and are slow to respond to repairs (have had a few teachers happy that i was in their class). When we do the gaming tournaments, its on Fridays after most classes (nearly all) have let out for the week and most people left in the school are at the tournament. The tournament is used as a school fundraiser for student activities and school scholarships. So i was wondering if anyone else has any other ideas of what may be good to try, or another VPN service that may work. connection speed doesn't matter, so long as things can actually connect to the internet. EDIT: Just found out that the network IT is outsourced and none of the in house IT's do anything with the infrastucture
  7. If that fails, reset the bios. If you still get nothing, try to make it beep (like removing the all the memory) and work up from their.

    Cnc Mills

Over a year ago their was a CNC mill designed for resident users. It was small enough to sit on a bench in a garage yet big enough to make a wooden car, and you could buy accessories to work with metal. It coast between 1.5K and 2.5K. well now i am looking at saving up for my own personal mill and i am trying to save up for my own personal mill, and not only can i not remember the name of the cheaper mill, but i cant remember who made it. I am having trouble even finding one for under 5k and i was wondering if anyone else here has information as to were to look.
  9. When i first purchased CSS in a store, it came with the disc. When you install it it installs the files AND steam. you cannot access the game unless you do it through steam, and steam needs an internet connection for first time users and to perform the initial update. CSS was my first steam game though
  10. 2 of my favorite mods for CSS back when i used to play were no-blocking and Knife Syphon No blocking allowed you to run through teammates and enemys, and its main implementation was to get rid of the most common noob problem of them just standing their blocking the way so that you get killed along with them. Knife syphon was awsome (at least for knifers :P). when you killed someone with a knife, you took some of the damage that you dealt them as health. both of them together made it difficult to kill knifers, esp when they could run through you, pivit slightly, and get a backstab on you. It does make a server more interesting by giving ppl who like to knife a fighting chance.
  11. wouldnt it take a long time to access and receive the data on something that large?
  12. i second that, but we also need HL 3 as well... i want a new gaming engine cuz source is starting to get boring for me and i cant just let that happen
  13. Has anyone else been finding problems with certain features or been sending feedback to google+? I've tried to re-arrange my photo albums, create sub albums, change the image that shows up for an album, and re-arrange they way my sparks are ordered (got 12 in their right now and i may add more) with both chrome (my default) and firefox. Then theirs some issues with the personal information, i.e.How can people reach you at home?/How can people reach you at work?, both of these allow multiple fields BUT they only allow for one grouping type instead of this is how i want my family to contact me and this is how my friends to contact me. Their is also a problem with the map, california is apparently in the UK and their is no way to manually edit it in case their is a place with more than one name. Other than that, everything else about it seams great so far I'm curious, though, what problems you all have found, what you like about it, and what you have tried so far.
  14. i just got my google+ account. just because your a member of a social networking site, does not mean your PERSONAL info is online. i.e. my google+ acount says that my name is user error, and, unless you know my family, you cant find a picture of me online. Besides, how can i say no to beta testing? :P
  15. Theirs just too many variables that were not taken into consideration, but from the sounds of things they just recorded the stats of mindlessly watching TV. So basically the typical lazy fat american who does nothing while watching TV, accepts everything he see's on the TV, and has issues thinking for themselves. so what about those of us that mainly use the TV as background noise, and have to problem minimizing/pausing the show their watching to learn more about a topic they heard on the show? I actually learned a lot about mythology and other topics b/c of this So what if i'm smoking a cigar outside of my apartment while watching TV and playing with my cat (yes all at the same time)? P.S. I learned form the navy recruiters, my dad (medical professionalist who is now retired from the navy and now working in the private sector), and from biology that most stuff you see in movies and/or tv is either already being developed or currently being researched (in other words not original b/c someone else has thought it up already). I.E in GITS SAC, their is an episode were they go to an organ farm in which they copy some of your genetic code and insert it into pigs to grow organs for the individuals that donated their DNA (the first episode with the jameson robot). Guess what they have done now outside of toronto in canada. the first group of piglets that have human genes in them so that their organs produce the same protein structures as human organs so that human bodies wont reject them. please note that this episode came out during the human genome project. I would like to know if anyone has heard about any research that involves putting ones ghost in a shell.
