  1. I'd definitely second for you to try Arch Linux. The setup is a fantastic learning opportunity. It'll be rough, but the guide is extremely thorough and you should be able to do it. I would have to advise against using Backtrack as your as your primary OS because the kernel isn't really made for that. Not to mention the security ramifications of running as root at all times.
  2. If you are looking for a book, check out Hacking: The Art of Exploitation. I'm about half way finished with it now. It's fantastic.
  3. You could try to pick up an early NeXT box. They run bastardized FreeBSD, but it's still Unix. Let us know what you get if you find anything! :D
  4. Well, in my view, functional programming seems to be where everything's headed. So to get a head start, I've begun learning Haskell, for a more useful language to start with that will teach you great habits I'd go with Lisp. It's a fantastic language, IMO. Two books to check out are Learn You a Haskell for Great Good, and Land of Lisp.
  5. Neat little script! Thanks for sharing it. It works great on my Thunderbolt running CM7.
  6. I have the same model, and issue. I've tried a bunch of distros live to no avail. My suggestion is just use virtualization. Battery life and compatibility is much better.
  7. I went to Derbycon as my first con last year, I had a blast. I made plans for Shmoocon, but I couldn't get a cheap enough flight due to my severe procrastination :3 Derbycon is pretty small, so it's really easy to meet people. I can't wait until this year's :) One last note though, the do patrol the wifi there, so no rouge APs XD
  8. Just gonna drop this here in case anyone decides to click that w3schools link... http://w3fools.com/

  10. Currently my ThinkPad is in lenovo repair to and on hold for parts. With school starting, I'll need a laptop to use. Anyway, I wanted to get your all's opinion on this. Should I get a Tablet PC for school and pen testing for fun (thinkpad x220t to be exact) and sell my iPad + ThinkPad when it comes back? I think it would be pretty cool to have a tablet that can do more than play stupid games. I checked it out, and the touchscreen works with the bamboo stylus + multitouch perfectly in Linux. So, tell me what you think in the thread and vote in the poll. Thanks Everybody!
