  1. http://www.leatherman.com/product/Kick I have the Kick and I love it. Running into a burning house and every gram you carry counts? Fine. Walking around with a backpack of tools and you're too lazy to pull it off? Fine. Trying to repair a washing machine / satellite dish / PC / Car / whatever? Fine too. Everything I need, nothing too much, really nice tool. :)
  2. So, in my hakpack (nice idea, btw :)) I carry the following items (not limited to those, though) - Compaq C610 Laptop w/ Debian GNU/Linux - multiple USB thumb drives with multiple live systems on it - enough networking equipment to start a out-of- the-pack network with at least 5 machines on the net. - Leatherman Multitool - Zippo Lighter - Gasoline for the lighter - Cigarillos - huge knife & teaser, just in case..... - cable clips - some wires - Screen cleaner - etc. At the airport I get thoroughly searched every single time, even though I always take out the tools and the weapons before I try to get behind customs. I think the just hate my face. Don't know....
  3. Out of curiosity: How do you come to the conclusion the fonera+ doesn't work with Jasager? It works just fine for me.... Cheers D
  4. If you use the Gnome-WM you should have access to the packages "network-manager" "network-manager-gnome" and finally "network-manager-pptp" (not sure of this special one, though, try "apt-cache search network manager pptp") Be careful: If you switch your network manager from wicd to the gnome-nm you will have to redo some configuration and lose wicd. I personally prefer the gnome-built-in solution because it allows me to configure _every_ network connection. WiFi, ethernet, VPN, you name it. Hope this helps. Cheers D
  5. Still interested? I could search an article of the german Linux-User magazine and create an howto of that. IIRC they used something like IP via DNS to connect to their home box via VPN. As I said before, I'd have to look it up.
  6. Out of curiosity: Why do you want to switch to / learn how to use Linux? And: Do you speak german? If you do speak german I recommend you read this first: http://daemonkeeper.net/43/linux-ist-nichts-fuer-dich-lass-es/ If you do not speak german I recommend this: http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm (but, honestly, it's not half as sarcastic as the first post. Maybe I'll translate it sometime) It says as much as "Linux wasn't meant for you - stay off of it". I don't want to discourage you, I just think it would spare you some time and frustration if you think about your reasons for switching. You won't enjoy Linux if you just want a "Windows just without the bad parts". If your motives are "pure" (yes, this is not a 100% sincere) continue with, let's say, Ubuntu, the Ubuntuusers community (www.ubuntu.com/Community) and rock the world :) I hope you will get to love Linux as much as I do :) Best wishes D
  7. I hereby claim the right to dig out this old post again. Is it just me or is the wiki down again? I got some MySQL-related problems yesterday and it's still not better today. Cheers D
  8. Still anyone out there trying to translate the subs to german? We could collaborate on one of our etherpad-servers. www.piratenpad.de give me a PM if you are interested... Cheers, D
  9. In case it is not too late for op to change his config: Screw Ubuntu. Ubuntu's really neat for beginners to start with linux on your desktop but as a server I prefer Debian. (To be fair: I once set up my homeserver with Ubuntu and it's still running just fine - alas I would never let this one go online). For a webserver my configuration is always Debian + LAMP if there are enough resources, if I have to be careful with this stuff I use lighttpd. Hope, I could help you.
  10. Hi Mr-Protocol, thanks for your time. As I mentioned before, I was not able to find anything of help, maybe I didn't search for the right keywords. I'll try again with the FCCID you mentioned. Hi Emeryth, Thanks, I will take this info to my "tech support" guy ;-) He knows better than me about hardware stuff.... And yes, if I toy around anymore with this I will be careful. This a experience you make exactly two times if you're clever. The first and the last time ;-) Cheers Dave

  12. Hi, is the offer still available? I would offer EUR 30,- and I am open to further negotiation via PM or e-mail. Cheers, Dave
  13. Hi everyone, I just found my way down to this dungeon ;-) I searched the web before but I was not able to find anything of help to my problem. It would be great, if anyone of you could send me a .pdf of the wiring scheme of the "La Fonera+", iirc that is a Fon2200 Router. If you do not have any, I would totally appreciate, if you could tell me what the element marked as "U907" on the circuit board is. The reason for all this is, that I built my own battery pack for my fonera and accidentally switched the polarity. Because the manufacturer is a cheapskate he did not use a normal fuse or anything like that but a simple resistance. This killed the component mentioned above quite profoundly (I can send you pics if you want to ;-)). Anyway, thank you very very much for the time you spent on reading this post!
