There are indeed many smart indian engineers, the issue is the one that man call centres. It's not their fault, they are just trying to make a living. The issues lies with companies using overseas based call centres. I have had to do help desk support for the last 3 years and after a lot of hard work and showing my skills I have managed to land a sysadmin job, and i have 0 certifications. Never dismiss working at a help desk if you want to go places in iT, as long as you are prepared to do the hard yards. Call centres suck but usually you can demonstrate you know much more than the person on the other end and get it escalated to the next level.

I'm not sure what they are running on the SAN atm, won't really know till I start. I was hoping fro FC but will see what happens, it's going to go under planning etc when I get there and will be trying a few different options. TBH I would prefer to be going with RHEL and KVM, but will see how we go. Thanks for the tips though, I will keep doing some research so I can hit the ground running.

In two weeks I start my new Sysadmin job and virtualisation will be the first project I will be working on along with normal duties and this is the proposed solutions. Anyone done any waork with them or set one up. I have done the ESXi on a PC thing before, but haven't really done it with clusters. Will be using iSCSI SAN for storage. Any tips or pitfalls to look out would be nice. I will get it done anyway but I figure it won't hurt to start gathering info.

I have been eyeing off xmonad for a very long time, but on a 12" netbook it is kind of lost, but i am thinking of going arch with xmonad on my mac pro with a 24" and 22" screen

Even better, I decided to go with fluxbox but I am reinstalling Arch first.

Be aware e-ink shits on other display as far as reading goes but the kindle and the tablet are very different devices.

I am a long time hater of KDE, but recently copped some flack because I bag the shit out of it but haven't used it for ages so in order to shut up the whingers I decided to give it a spin. It's only my laptop that is used for nothing more than web browsing and irssi so it's not that big of an issue. I will probably go to fluxbox or if desperate back to Gnome. Don't fret, I am not an advocate of KDE by any stretch.

Yeah mate is has been positive for me. Been going for over 12 months now, and we all get along pretty well. Some of the older guys get a bit lost when we nerd right out with more advanced stuff but I totally enjoy it.

I am lucky enough to be a member of a LUG where I live. We actually got Linux Australia to provide us with some space to host our own website. I also hold a monthly hackerspace under my house for the guys to tinker, and we are also going to be holding additional meetings at the local library. We also promote Free and Open Source software at the local University during it's open day.

The slim ps3 have never been able to have Linux installed afaik, you will need a fat model, that has not been updated, though I do recall hearing that some people have been working on this. Sony has provided the military a custom firmwar to allow them to continue using it.

I checked out obsoleet and was totally impressed. Yeah it's not HD, but it doesn't matter when the content is interesting. I will definitely be keeping up with this one. Props to famicoman for his efforts and moonlit for the tip.

Most of the points raised in this article and thread have been raised at one time or another. Darren is hardly going to be thrilled about viewers passing around nude photos of Snubs. Wess, Harrison and Jonathon all did posts on the forums stating why they chose to leave so there is probably not any real reason for Darren to address that either. he thing we all have to deal with in reality is it's their show, and they can take it in any direction they choose to. I dont have any personal grudges against them myself. I have always thought that Snubs was on the show because she was Darrens gf, not because she particularly offered anything to the show on a technical level, which I still feel is the case. For a long while their I also thought the content level was very poor, season 3 was a nightmare. Whilst I had my own objections against the revision 3 decision, they have certainly improved and I am pretty thankful for weekly episodes, which would be a pretty full on task. I hope Darren offers some insight on his views on what was written, and that we don't act like douchebags and jump all over him because he disagrees with some of the things written. A community this large and dynamic is bound to have shit like this happen, combine that with the internet, the invariable dicks this scene can attract and people just out to be retards and you know for sure it's going to be on. You have to credit the fact they have stuck with it for 5 years and whilst some things shit me off, I am glad they have and if it really is that bad people have the option to fuck off and do something else.

Yeah well he made a terrible mac vs pc vs linux video and I basically commented saying "gee thanks for making linux users look like dickheads." There is little point in me telling people they suck because they use windows. Use whatever you want. I'm all for advocating Linux but there is the right way and an idiot way of going about it. Speaking of zealous advocates, I am going to see Richard Stallman at the world computing conference in Brisbane in Septemeber. Should be interesting.
