  1. Having issues with updating Java 7 in Ubuntu.

At the terminal I have typed the following commands...

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java

    sudo apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install oracle-java7-installer

    sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-7-oracle

Seems to be an issue with webupd8team.

    Tried this several times.

Anyone else having an issue with this?

I am using version 12.04 Ubuntu at the moment.

Should I try another repository (ppa)?

Or should I try tar.gz file?

    Thanks!

  2. Saw a Chrome OS netbook recently. Thinking of buying one.

Anyone bought one and what do you think of Chrome OS?

    Pros? Cons?

Would really like to hear from members here on their thoughts on this.

  3. Google Chrome is my fav, and im on my asus 1201n running ubuntu 10.04, win7 64bit, and backtrack4. Use google chrome in all of em but pair it with firefox / opera in backtrack for different vulnerability testing.

    Thanks. Will try that. :)

  4. Yea chrome is better than chromium

Still I prefer friefox, since with firefox sync you can get firefox in your every computer to see all your saved passwords etc.

Good to know. Thanks for your response. :)

  5. $ sudo update-alternatives –config x-www-browser

There are 2 alternatives which provide `x-www-browser’.

    Selection Alternative

    ———————————————–

    1 /usr/bin/firefox

    *+ 2 /usr/bin/opera

Press enter to keep the default[*], or type selection number:

Very interesting how the commands differ in this OS to set the default browsers. This is going to be fun.:) Also noticed that there are 32bit versions of Ubuntu and 64bit Ubuntu. Very interesting. ;)

  6. i recommend downloading backtrack to virtual machine (vmware/virtual box) of booting it from usb drive.

Then goto backrack-linux.org Register for their forums, start reading tutorials, following them. read posts from beginners forum, You will learn something.

If you really want to learn linux things try using ubuntu/BT4 as your main os (I recommend NOT to replace your windows installation.)

Watching Hak5 you will learn a lot, especially season 6.(if I remember correctly.) Mitm, ssls strip explained.

If you are trying wep/wpa cracking I recommend at begin watching some videos from youtube, then trying it and then following tutorials from aircrack-ng's web site.

    One thing '

I recommend learning, is how to use tools like wireshark, You can even sniff your own network traffic. Then ettercap for mitm (Man in the middle) as well as arpspoof.

And when you can't figure something out GOOGLE it. Then if you still have a problem ask from http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forums/beginners-forum/

They might be a bit rude if you are asking "stupid" questions. Just keep trying You can learn anything!

And don't forget hak5.org's forums, but Ffor bt questions I still recommend BT4's own forum.

Cool and very informative. Thanks for posting that. Seen a lot of articles on the net with respect to cracking and hacking.

  7. i love chrome i feel it is better layout for me then firefox, also less problems with chrome

I love Firefox. I likes its layout better. I've found less of a problem with it. But, will give Chrome a try with Ubuntu.

I'm online right now with my WLAN connection and am on Firefox. Going to be downloading some browsers and trying them out.

    Thanks for your response. ;)

  8. Its a sign that some rich people don't know what to do with their money.

Very eloquently said. ;) If I had a lot of money, I'd keep a bit for myself and help others with the rest of it. My parents taught me well the real values in life. I'm rich with family and friends. :)

  9. Google Chrome > Chromiminnmun

Have tried both and found Chrome is less buggy.

Interesting. I've found the opposite. Am actually online here at the moment using Comodo Dragon. Comodo Dragon apparently isn't available for Ubuntu as of yet. Was just checking the Comodo forums. Bit leery of Google Chrome due to security issues, but, am still willing to give it a try.

    Thanks for your response. :)
