  1. Sorted it, thanks guys!

While we're here, why would I be getting the error "The server responded with error: STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED (Command=162 WordCount=0)while trying to run an exploit on ms08_067_netapi?

The system is Windows XP SP2 - No patches. Firewall turned off, Automatic Updates turned off. No AV.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers,

  2. Yeah, I know you have to get written permission about it.

In regards to laws in the UK about it, is there anything I should be aware of?

This may seem like a daft question but how do you know that my company is tech based? ...

  3. Hi guys,

I was wanting to carry out a penetration test at work and just wanted to know the process of going about it.

Specifically: Do I need to have any certification

Who do I need to contact to get permission

How do I find out about local laws about such actions etc etc.

Can anybody help me with this?

I must stress that I have not started doing anything other than a little research into the processes of a pen-test. I want to equip myself with as much knowledge as possible and get permission before I try and do anything.

    Thanks,

  4. The problem being that we have a 6 meg internet connection at work, and already are managing to max that out..

One user using Spotify isn't such a problem (other than the fact that he has disregarded our policy) but if he's allowed to do it, then surely the rest of them should be allowed? By which point we will kill our internet connection.

  5. Hi guys,

When I go to the Hak5 homepage, and hover over community, it only shows the Forum button (that's fortunate!)

The rest of that menu appears to hide behind the videos, happens on all the "hover over" menus :(

Tested in Chrome and IE9, both with latest updates.

Just wanted to post this to make you aware of the issue.

    Cheers,

  6. Digip, I see where you are coming from. However, we work in an open plan office, so anything that can be seen with a screenshot, can also be seen by simply walking past him..

We have policy in place which states that if programmers are installing software that is not linked to Development (Our company designs software) then they must ask IT, aka, me and my boss.

Also, I have also used LanSweeper to create a list of installed software and sent that to my manager to check what is and isn't allowed to be installed.

Hope this is of some help.

  7. Weird..

I've searched his computer using Windows Search and found a Spotify application in his AppData folder, double clicked and it ran on my computer.. However, there is also a Spotify Setup application there.

I think I'm just going to ask him why he has it installed and react accordingly, he could have a genuine business reason to install it. If not then I'll block it via Group Policy instead of relying on the users not to use it.

    Cheers for the help.

  8. Hi guys,

One of my users at work has Spotify installed on their computer (Which they shouldn't)

However, when I go to pull up a list of installed software from either LanSweeper or WMIC, it isn't listed!

Does anyone know of a way to hide the software from Add/Remove Programs etc?

I know it's there because I take random screenshots and it is showing in the taskbar as running..

    Any help would be appreciated,

  9. Hey guys,

I'm now unemployed so have quite a bit of time on my hands, so I've decided that I'm finally going to start studying for Network+ certification.

I've already got A+ along with MCP, MCDST, ADITP and an NVQ Level 3 in IT.

I was just wondering if there was any good revision material that anyone has seen?

    So far I've got:

    • CompTIA Network+ Review Guide by Bill Ferguson
    • MCSA / MCSE Jump Start by Lisa Donald (Has 2 chapters about networking)
    • Access to Books24x7.com which has loads of books regarding IT, Networking, Security etc
    • The Network+ CBT Nuggets by Professor Messer

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Cheers,

  10. Scratch that, I had to re-install BT. Tried it again and it worked :)

However, I have another couple of questions..

    1. Using Arpspoof, is it possible to re-direct a computer to a certain site? Like a fake one created with the SET? I'm guessing its got something to do with DNS.

    2. I can't seem to get Dsniff working using the Dsniff -i wlan0 command. Any ideas?

    Thanks again,

  11. Hi guys,

I'm trying to do an Arpspoof from Backtrack 5 to one of my windows machines on my local network. It works if I use eth0 as the interface but that's no good for doing pen-tests etc. I am trying to use Wlan0 instead. I get the error: arpspoof: couldn't arp for host.

The command I'm trying to use is arpspoof -i wlan0 -t (IP's here)

    Any ideas?

    Regards,

  12. Hi Guys, me again.

I've just got BackTrack 5 installed as a secondary OS on my Laptop. (Windows 7 Pro is my first)

Everything is set up and working great, can get on wireless without having to do anything.

Just wondering if there is a PPTP VPN Client available.

I installed PPTP-Linux via 'Apt-get install pptp-linux' but there doesn't seem to be much documentation or help on it.

    Any ideas would be great.

    Kind regards,

  13. Hi guys,

One of our clients at work has requested that iGoogle be blocked on only SOME of the computers, so they can't access it. They are using a proxy but putting an entry for it on the proxy server doesn't block it for some reason. Can't do it via the Firewall because that would block it entirely. Any ideas?

Also, is there any way to remotely edit the hosts file? Maybe with a script or something? I thought that if I could do this, I could add an entry into the hosts file to re-direct to google or something if they tried to access iGoogle.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    TuX^

  14. Lyzon, that's awesome!

One of our clients at work is a training provider and need to keep control of students. They've just opened an IT academy so we need to tighten the network security a bit more.

We were testing LanSchool at work and my colleague just wouldn't stop bugging me with it. He used Psexec to install it on my machine, silently. I found the Student.exe at the root of my C: Drive and deleted it (bad idea, I would later find out) so I couldn't uninstall it. The only way I could get rid of it was to boot into safe mode and delete the folder it creates in Program Files. Messy, I know.

    Thanks again,

    TuX^
