  1. Next they will want to protect your child from 'extremist' political opinions.

(ie anything that the neo-nazi conservatives disagree with).

Strangely, they don't want to protect your kids from stupidity, that's why

nobody talks about blocking 'creationist' websites or any other website spreading the religion-parasite,

despite the fact that they turn children into idiotic losers ..

  2. I didn't try either of the programs that you suggested, but i may have used them before. I figured out why they weren't working though. The chipgenius data was wrong. I popped open the usb drive and its actually a 2092, and i was able to find a program that worked for me. However, it gives me 7/4096 bad sectors, but a capacity of only 503 mb, as opposed to the 1 gb that it actually is... CBM tool says: capacity = 1024 mbs, but on the line beside the progress bar, i have Cap.: 503mb. Any ideas on how to solve this?

If you open the 'Settings'-dialog you can choose the NAND-type in 'Flash-settings' .

It's possible you have to choose the correct NAND-type/capacity manually ...

  3. Flashboot.ru has 2 tools for cbm2080, try those and see if it solves the problem:

Some of the older tools may have problems working on Vista/win7 and you need admin-rights.

Some antivirus-software may also interfere and you should insure that nothing is accessing the flash-drive..

  4. So you should talk to he and thell about danger etc.

Damn right you should, instead of building up your own personal mini-East Germany around him ..

..and to keep track of any personal correspondence that he may have

Then it's hardly personal, is it ?

In order to learn children how not to get hurt by life you need to teach them about life !

Naturally, if the kid is not allowed to know what a penis is,

you will find it hard to teach him that he shouldn't

show it to internet-uncle Bob ..

Besides, he probably already knows those words he's not allowed to see

but since he sounds like a smart kid he's to clever to say them when you guys listen ...

  5. A person commits possession of burglary tools by:1. Possessing any explosive, tool, instrument or other article adapted or commonly used for committing any form of burglary as defined in sections 13-1506, 13-1507 and 13-1508 and intending to use or permit the use of such an item in the commission of a burglary.
  6. Hi All,

I know there is always a way for decrypting files, hard drives and so on.

Yes, knowing the password always works!

If you don't there is no way to do it, bruteforcing isn't "a way for de-crypting.."

If you wanna try bruteforcing you will need to build a few nuclear power-plants first :

in order to simply flip through the possible values for a 128-bit symmetric key (ignoring doing the actual computing to check it) would theoretically require 2*128 − 1 bit flips on a convential processor. If it is assumed that the calculation occurs near room temperature (~300 K) the Von Neumann-Landauer Limit can be applied to estimate the energy required as ~10*18 joules, which is equivalent to consuming 30 gigawatts of power for one year (30×10*9 W×365×24×3600 s = 9.46×10*17 J).

The full actual computation—checking each key to see if you have found a solution—would consume many times this amount.

AES (and most other modern ciphers) permits the use of 256-bit keys. Breaking a symmetric 256-bit key by brute force requires 2*128 times more computational power than a 128-bit key. A device that could check a billion billion (10*18) AES keys per second would require about 3×10*51 years to exhaust the 256-bit key space.

Estimated age of The Universe :

    1.373±0.012×10*10 (13.73 billion years±120 million years)

  7. A 1955 Vintage Mint Condition (in original box) Nestler 0370 Electro Slide-Rule..

(this is a scan of a late '60's early '70's model, mine has those cool 1950's fonts with serifs )

    f66L0.jpg

It's made of an old-time material called "wood" , specifically "Mahogany", and some proprietary plastic-compound ..

Einstein ( and Von Braun ) used this one :

  8. I didn't say it was possible to 'unlock' them, though it may be possible depending on the flash controller. Unfortunately the only way to find devices that do have larger chips than they appear to be is to brake them open and look at the chips model.

    Well, IT IS ..

IF those things really exist they have had their capacity faked, just like those 16GB fake-things that are only 1GB.

And I can GUARANTEE you that the extra free space can be reclaimed.. If those things actually exist !

YOU said they DO exist, plz tell me some more ....

  9. You could probably use fdisk to kill the partition table and then reformat. You'd want to be careful with doing that though, as digip said if you choose the wrong device you could end up formatting your hardrive.

    No you can't ..

IT IS NOT A PARTITION , its a LUN that the OS sees as a separate device .

You can only remove it by telling the controller not to present it to the OS.

  10. It depends on what controller your flash-drive uses.

Most controllers, being ATA-compliant, support password-protection utilizing the ATA security feature set,

but there doesn't seem to be a standardized way to enable or enter the password .

    USBest has a user-tool for their UT16x-series of UFD-controllers, UFDUtility v3.2.5.5

    http://translate.googleusercontent.com/tra...tpB6xg3Y4zGQFMw

Other manufacturers may also have a user-tool, have a look in the files-section @ flashboot.ru

Sometimes the tool is packet with the installer for the mass-production tool !

  11. No, the password is used to trigger a switch in the controller that opens for access to the NAND .

From any OS's POV there IS no storage until the correct pw has been entered .

(AFAIK the only reason you can't enter the password under Linux is that nobody bothered porting

the log-in software, probably because the source-code isn' available)

Furthermore, many versions of cruzers use AES128 internally if you pw-protect the device,

even if it wasn't advertised and you didn't pay extra !!

so you generally can't pull the NAND from the board and place it in a flash-RAM reader .

  12. No, the u3 controller will reformat the device .

The counter is also in the controllers domain and there are no known ways to "reset" it .

In the very early u3 controller firmware-versions there was a bug that resulted in the drive only being

"quick-formatted", allowing the use of data-recovery software, but now the drive performs a ATA-security erase.

Doing "stuff" under other OS won't help anything, you need to remember that password right ..
