  1. the RIAA needs to be shut down, they just try to profit from other peoples actions, it is like me watching you punch a stranger in the face and me unrelated to the event sues you for abuse, so you get a unfair punishment for punching the person, I get rich and the victim walks off with a black eye thats pretty much what the riaa does they don't help the artist, they just try to profit from them they should be shut down the record companies cause more harm than anyone else to the music industry, they crush out small artist to weed out competition for their star artist working for the company, mainstream music provided by record companies only shows a few artist and most people who listen to it will never even know about other bands out there because the goal of the record company it to make sure that the public is only exposed to music that makes them money, so if your a new artist it doesn't matter how good your music is, you will have a lot of trouble getting your music to see the light of day. many small bands started out with posting their music on sites like youtube, pure volume and mainly bittorrent, once their music made it popular on bit torrent, they spread like wildfire and made a name for them self many bands that are pretty popular that I listen to started off with releasing 1 or 2 songs on line and on torrent networks, and when they became popular, they began selling their music and they made a lot of money and became popular the record companies hate this because it means more competition with out online music sites and bit torrent, the only way to let the world know your music exists is to beg a record company to push your music out to the world, because if you are not with them, then they see you as an enemy and they will make sure no one other than your self hears your music record companies pay off broadcast companies and many other companies that have the ability to get your music herd, so they wont accept you unless you are with a record company a local group (they did rap, and they sounded pretty good encountered these problems) it is a major problem these companies also cause piracy, because they disappoint people far too much, they don't even want you to hear a second of their music for free but when they bite the bullet and release a 30 second sample on stores , they often select a catchy part to sample but when you buy the song, you discover that only about 40 seconds of the song is actually good enough to listen to and the rest is crap and you just wasted $1 and other sites that actually give the entire song will try to keep you from recording it for personal use by under sampling the song and compressing it and applying a high pass filter or something else to lower the quality a bit more this makes people hate the song and will encourage them to sample it by downloading a pirated copy fans of a band will buy their music to support them, and if they don't like them then they wont buy their music, the record company wants the part of the market that doesn't want the music, by making sure they pay either way so if the song turns out to be crap, the record company still got paid
  2. if microsoft made the plugin, it would really be 4GB (just look ad the file size trend with every other program and OS they release, the size gets exponentially larger
  3. it will just cause many problems and it will be a support nightmare for the schools IT and most 7th graders cant go very long with out breaking things of getting their PCS infected with every bit of spyware on the planet this will make no motivation teachers to even use laptops to teach students because of all the problems it will just be a waste of tax payers money, and they will most likely wind up broken while not all 7th graders will have these, it will happen to most and thus the teachers will not be able to use it as by law they are not allowed to create an environment where any of the students cant learn the laptops will just be a free toy for the students, the best solution will be laptops that are kept in a cart and only taken out and handed to students in class only when needed then taken back at the end of the lesson this will keep them from being broken and will also keep them from being used as toys, (there many monitoring programs that can be installed to see what students are doing on the laptops while in class and allow the teacher to take control of the laptop if needed ) computers are useful but only when the students buy them, when I was in high school and the school let some of the students take home the graphing calculators, they came back with cracked screens or really dirty or just messed up, but those same students will have a cellphone or a side kick with out a single scratch on it students don't feel a need to take care of school property
  4. 4GB worth of eye candy and laggy effects will be great for firefox we should work on one
  5. gimp would be better if they could just make a UI thats not confusing photoshop keeps everything in the proper places gimp is just disorganized http://www.gimp.org/screenshots/ photoshop is mainly better organized for quick efficient usage http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/1397/42642111.jpg CS3 has a better UI than CS4, cs4 forces all work spaces to be tabbed this makes dragging a dropping layers from 1 image to another hard because the 1 step process from cs3 has been turned into a 5 step process in cs4 many of the basic things that you can do in photoshop can also be done in gimp, it is just harder because of the unintuitive UI
  6. yep in some cases the kitchen counter can contain more bacteria than a bathroom because theres more food for the bacteria where food is prepared
  7. I cant wait to try some http://www.theonion.com/content/news/fda_approves_salmonella WASHINGTON—Calling it "perfectly safe for the most part," and "not nearly as destructive or fatal as previously thought," the Food and Drug Administration approved the enterobacteria salmonella for human consumption this week. Enlarge Image FDA Approves FDA director Stephen Sundlof okays the bacteria for eating, drinking, and applying directly to the skin. The federal agency, which has struggled in recent years to contain the food-borne pathogen, and repeatedly failed to prevent tainted products from reaching store shelves, announced Monday that salmonella was now completely okay for all Americans to enjoy. "Rigorous testing has shown that salmonella is...fine," FDA director of food safety Stephen Sundlof said. "In fact, our research indicates that there's no need to pull any more foodstuffs from the market. Not raw chicken. Not contaminated spinach. Not thousands of jars of harmful peanut butter. Not anything." "It's approved," Sundlof continued."Healthy, delicious salmonella is finally approved." Following the announcement, the FDA released a 20-page report, which included evidence that salmonella is barely more dangerous than other live-culture products such as yogurt, and results from a clinical trial which found that participants who ingested salmonella were totally fine for up to three minutes. Enlarge Image Salmonello's A variety of products containing the newly approved food-borne microbe will hit non-refrigerated shelves this month. The report also concluded that salmonella has been around American kitchens for centuries now, and must therefore be at least harmless, if not actually good for us. "Of course, as with everything, we encourage moderation," lead FDA researcher Phillip Millar said. "Don't just eat a whole pint of salmonella in one sitting. It's like ice cream or, for example, E. coli in that respect." Added Millar, "A little bit goes a long way." According to FDA officials, the intracellular bacterium will be commercially available in a variety of forms. Plans are already in the works to offer salmonella as a flavorful topping, food spread, powdered drink mix, dessert gelatin, and as a "no frills" yellow liquid guaranteed to enhance one's overall eating experience. Enlarge Image Baby Salmonella is said to contain the seven essential forms of bacteria growing infants need. With hundreds of possible applications, the newly approved gram-negative microbe will also open the door for many innovative and exciting products. "This is thrilling news," Hellmann's CEO Robert Reichert said. "We've been waiting for the federal go-ahead to produce salmonella for decades now. In fact, we have an entire line of lukewarm, sun-soaked, and partially turned mayonnaises that we just know Americans will love." One of several new foods to feature the motile microorganism is Salmonell-Os—an O-shaped breakfast cereal packed with hearty typhoid clusters—which is expected to hit grocery stores by April. Other products currently in development include Salmonella Helper, Kraft's Extremely Painful Mac, 'Nella Wafers, and peanut butter. "Now that salmonella's been approved, we're working overtime to get our products to market," said David Wellbrook, head of sales for Oscar Mayer, the nation's leading producer of bologna-based goods. "I've never seen so many orders come through in a single year, much less a single day. It's incredible." News of salmonella's approval also comes as a relief to many homemakers, who, until now, had been cautioned against letting the bacteria spread. "It used to be such a pain to have to sanitize my kitchen," Chicago resident Margaret Thewles said. "Now all I need is one cutting board. I'll cut raw poultry on it, prepare my salad veggies on it, and then use it to serve dessert when I'm done." Michael Weinback, a California native and father of two young children, agreed with Thewles. "This is…arrghhh…great," Weinback said from the bottom of his living room stairs. "Oh, Jesus…here it comes agai—uuuuhhhhh, Christ. Get hel…just get…aarrghh." I got some yesterday and it was good
  8. it's only illegal if you get caught but in this economy do you want to risk it
  9. the design is ok but for the price which i know they will charge a arm and a leg for even though it will cost about the same much as a cheap case to make, is is better to invest in a normal case with good air flow and good fans with that case, each compartment will need it's own fan, cd drives do heat up.
  10. i know upgrades tend to require new machines but if you look at many of those other OS before vista, the upgrades added things that every users would use, like support for more cpu cores, support for more memory, and many other enhancements that allow the system to run faster I have no problem with a new os having higher requirements, i have a problem when a new os has higher requirements but no new hardware support comparable to the old os in terms of performance so the new OS will never outgrow the slowness because the old OS will always run it faster on the same hardware the only way microsoft is getting vista sold is really through pre built systems with special motherboards where they can make them to only have vista drivers so you cant run xp even if you wanted to to see how much faster it is on the same hardware (these are artificially created incompatibilities and not from the new hardware not truly supporting the OS ) (if current hardware on the market was still as it was back in 2000, then you would still have people complaining about xp being slow and a resource hog because the older OS supports the same hardware and benchmarks higher because less resources are wasted on running it's self which leaves more to run the app) PS those apps all run smooth and fast I tried it on vista and could not do it, so much as clicking on a object in maya caused the hard drive to crank away for like 20 seconds , just running the OS, SL and sometimes photoshop ate up virtually all of the memory while with xp i could run all 3 and still have like 100+MB of free memory and SL isn't that bad, you can make money on SL, and convert the linden dollars into real USD and only about 5-6 sims are based on furry, i have played for a few years and thats the most i can find, theres cub conclave, furnation, and rcfm furnation has a cluster of sims other than that, you wont find any other sims dedicated to furry (and due to linden lab rules no porn is allowed on the sims ) (while there some groups dedicated to destroying fur related sims, they eventually stop when they see how easy it is to to sell overpriced products to them instead and make a ton of money) other than those sims, 99% of the other sims are either stores or sex dungeons and the other 1% are sims created by large companies such as ibm, microsoft and many other companies to advertise their products and also make some linden dollars to convert to real dollars (yep many companies are using SL to make money, especially since 90% of the people on sl are idiots and will have no problem getting ripped off because because they don't understand the conversion rate between linden dollars and US dollars ) SL may run slow for how it looks but on my friends PC, he has a core 2 e6600 and a geforce 8800gt and 2GB memory, he gets 60-70FPS average in second life, while my system running a radeon 3850 will only get around 5FPS mainly due to ati having bad opengl drivers that refuse to allocate video memory, so I have to remove my 3850 and pop in my geforce 6800, then my frame rates jump to 25-30FPS average more info on the opengl problem here http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm...p;enterthread=y if you want you can join in on SL, if you are good at building 3d objects, you will make a lot of money on second life (remember most of the people there are idiots and will buy overpriced crap)(one person there who made a small hud mini game is getting like $900 a week from second life by by charging users to constantly get enhancements which allows them to gain points faster, and then the user holds a competition every week where users get together and a score board is setup and everyone battles to get the highest score so who ever spends the most money on the game gets the highest score, and guess what, they gladly waste their money ) if your interested in SL i highly recommend you join and if your good at building or coding then you can make games where you charge users to play or sex objects or furry objects and make some money remember since it is digital theres no production cost, so each item sold is 100% profit while in the real world if the cost of production was 0, prices would be lower, but in SL it is the opposite

    iTunes Hacked

it is more legal to just download songs from p2p than to get a hacked gift card and steal music from a company that tracks where every bit goes
  12. it seems good but for the price it will be a waste especially if you just want to game, no game uses that much memory and by the time they do need that much memory, the system would be obsolete My pc only has 2GB memory running windows xp, I can run photoshop cs3, image ready, Maya 3d, adobe bridge and second life and things will still run smoothly these tools are needed when your making sculpted objects with animated textures in second life. I can also run crysis maxed out with no lag while i will still benefit from moving to 4GB which i wont do until I get a new cpu, motherboard and ram, it runs pretty well PS gamers don't like to run a million + 1 programs while gaming because background processes don't just eat up memory, they eat up memory bandwidth and cpu cycles and if the windows are styled or use a theme, they also eat up video memory and will often force your card to accelerate both opengl and d3d at the same time which introduces a large performance hit a system with those specs is more suited to a person who doesn't game but runs a crap load of apps (in which case, they can go with a 8600m, and lower end hardware for the gaming related parts and focus more on cpu speed and memory bandwidth ) thats why you will notice that if you disable all useless windows services and startup items that you don't need, you can get a few hundred extra points on your 3dmark score, or increase your memory bandwidth benchmark by almost 600MB/s to 1GB/s and get a lower average cpu usage. (these effects are noticed even on the most high end systems ) cant multitask as much with vista and benchmarks are lower (so more ram and a faster cpu is needed for me to get to the current performance of my windows xp install and to run the same programs, i hate when people talk about all of the improvements of vista and things about memory management and other crap, it doesn't mean much if it is still slower than the old os and does the same thing )
  13. wont really effect the value a better use of your time will be to add cheap things that look cool to make your house look more expensive, also no one is buying or selling houses right now, when the economy gets fixed, then maybe but the current market has caused homes to loose up to half of their value a good way to increase the value is to either clean the walls, floors and celling or repainting them, this makes the inside look newer, (this is recommended during the summer, then after that using a powerful fan or many window fans, air out all of the rooms for a few days, so there's no fresh paint smell (many people find fresh paint to be hiding a defect if the house has a antenna on the roof, and jacks for cable tv then a good idea is to add both a antenna jack and cable tv jack in the living room (since we have moved to digital tv, the picture quality is just as good as with cable and in some cases even better since broadcast doesn't require as much compression because the same bandwidth usage remains even regardless of the number of people watching also many cable providers charge like $10 a month for local channels another thing to increase the value, add dimmer switches in active areas of the home, dimmers allow you to save energy by reducing the brightness in a room, (only the living room needs one to have a value effect) also go with electronic thermostats (a good $30 one looks great and entices people (trust me it may seem cheesy but the more of any random electronic that anyone can use that you add to the home, the more people are likely to buy the home, It worked when I helped a friend with selling a house (PS practical eye candy sells, decorations don't so keep eye candy to things that don't have much to do with taste in design and more to features and standard things a home needs, (nothing puts off a sale like having the wrong decorations in a home, so don't put anything that's not standard (so you want shades, and possible standard bland shades or curtains, but don't go for special designs or other things like that because those items are based on the users taste and are not universally accepted ) (if you have hardwood floors and there any panels that squeak, find out where it is coming from and nail it in as squeaks (even though many are minor ( a nail coming a little loose so when you walk, the nail slides back and forth through the wood causing a squeak) squeaks lower the value because they make the home look less solid ) (PS if the home has a central cooling system, be sure to put in a fresh filter and run the fan system for a good few hours before opening the home for people to come, at that time turn the fan off or check if it has a very low setting to keep things quiet ) (PS hardwood floors increase the value also so if there's old carpeting, remove it and clean the clean the floor ) (all in all the main thing you want when adding things to the home are things that the people living there will always use and not any items that may be seen as esoteric )
  14. Theres a easy way to destroy most or all of the networking abilities in windows (but fixing it will be hard) if it is a dsl gateway, then try this, go into the dsl gateway settings then disable nat and add random routes and other things to stop the internet from working, then you can undo it or hard reset the gateway
  15. macs, spec for spec, there more expensive much of the additional cost is for the brand name apple gets away with it by targeting people who don't understand the value of the hardware they also add hype and push the idea of style it is how a company can sell sneakers for $400 while using the same materials and even the same sweat shop and still have people buy it
  16. Using ddwrt in wireless repeater mode I was able to set up a network with 1 wrt54gl, and 2 wrt54gs a wireless repeater cuts the speed in half so you will wind up with 27mbits instead of 54 but since not many users have a internet connection that needs that much bandwidth, it works great in most cases so if you just want a way to get many people on your network and keep them all with a good signal, wireless repeaters are pretty much the simplest solution you could also use a high gain antenna but due to many factors there no way to tell what kind of range you will get, so theres a chance that you can buy a expensive antenna and still not provide the coverage needed
  17. I have a opteron 170 socket 939, overclocked to 2.75GHz 2GB ddr400 memory (overclocked) a ati radeon 3850 overclocked 2000MHz memory, 780MHz core windows xp, (stripped down startup to save system resources which also gives better gaming performance) My framerates are around 18-22FPS average depending on where I am and if I am driving or not gta4 is not a very good game my friend who has a e6600 overclocked 4GB memory, windows xp, and a 8800GTX gets around 20-23FPS in the game and his system is much faster than mine based on the 3dmark score I get around 9600 points on my 3dmark 06 score, he gets around 13000 points the game is just a bad console port, it is inefficient, there many games that look better and run smoother
  18. I use my ipaq rx 3115, it may be old but it does a lot more than what the kindle does, only problem is the screen is smaller but the grab to scroll and the hot keys to change pages and the instant changing of pages is nice the kindle is overpriced for what you get
  19. when using these settings, it automatically rips any song that you give a thumbs up it doesn't allow you to disable the feature that makes it rip songs that you give a thumbs up
  20. even if it is set to not automatically download if you rate a song thumbs up it will automatically download it regardless of if you already have the song or not, even if it overwrites the current one or if you have the song somewhere else on your pc, it will cause duplicates and it will cause windows media player to add multiple copies of the same song to the library the only way for pandora to learn your style of music is to rate songs, but you don't want it downloading songs you already have
  21. Is there a way to make it not automatically rip songs that you give a thumbs ui, since it already has the download button in the page it causes duplicates to form and ruins playlist in windows media player since it automatically scans the folder also for version 1.007 is there a way to give the user the option to disable the feature in simple proxy in which it will automatically change proxy settings in IE many applications get their connections settings from IE and it can slow them down if they have to go through the proxy and it can also stop all connections if the app crashes, in which case IE will still be using the proxy settings even though there is no proxy server running (this will also cause a connection failure to any program that gets it's connections from IE )
  22. there doesn't seem to be a option, I hate it also when it does that because it causes duplicates to form in windows media player
  23. I hate when games require steam steam is just another resource hogging application that takes needed resources away from your already hard to run games it is like a car company hating the fact that it is easy to steal car keys so they replace their keys with a rfid brick that weight 700 pounds that you have to place in your car when ever you want to use it all it does for the driver is it makes their car 700 pounds heavier, uses more gas and run slower and handles like a brick steam is kinda like that but even less usable to the user because steam is designed to protect steam and not the user, (why does anyone need a middleman in opening a application wouldn't be easier if the game just had a icon on the desktop instead of having a icon in steam ) while there are some good things that steam does for the users, they can easily do those things with out requiring the user to open steam when ever they want to play their games steam is like telling someone that before they can open the front door to their house, they have to first head to the basement and open the door to the washing machine

if your after sci-fi rpg games with some fps features, then the STALKER series will work well (though you may want at least the unlimited health cheat because the game is insanely unfair in how easy it is for the enemy to kill you ) STALKER shadow of Chernobyl STALKER clear sky i like sci-fi RPG/fps games also but there doesn't seem to be many of them
