  1. lol they updated it, ATI videocards are failing even more. guess ati should have fixed those driver problems that users have been complaining about for so long, (I have a 3850 and guess what, they still didn't even fix the opengl performance problems yet) why does my 3850 have to run opengl like this while my agp Geforce 7800gs runs it like this ?
  2. http://consumerist.com/5031698/banzai-wild...ture-vs-reality Hey kids, want to spend the summer with five of your friends in your very own backyard pool? Then stay the hell away from Banzai's Wild Waves Water Park! David Ng juxtaposed Banzai's box art with a picture of his disappointed kids standing next to the fully assembled "water park." He wasn't the only one deceived, according to the reviews on Amazon... amazon.com link: http://www.amazon.com/Banzai-Wild-Waves-Wa...4249&sr=8-1
  3. I wonder are there any knock off (non authentic ) AMD or Intel CPU?
  4. Sigma APO 200-500mm (also does 400-1000mm with the additional extender, not shown in the image) http://www.dpreview.com/news/0703/07030805sigma200500mm.asp http://www.dpreview.com/articles/pma2007/Sigma/IMG_5383.jpg great portability :)
  5. I tend to charge very little for hardware because it is easier to work with, just 2 days ago, I built a gaming system for someone (had them order the parts and I did the rest), also did a small overclock for the CPU and memory and installed windows and and the drivers for $20, (if a system is new and so theres nothing to backup of it is is old and infected to a point where a reinstall is needed and the owner doesn't want any backups or anything, then i will just reformat and reinstall and set up everything, and do some performance tweaks for about $20 due to how easy it is)
  6. 99% of all computers that I fix in my line of work all have nortons (some have the 2009 version), the other 1% have mcafee (in many cases installing avast was able to remove the infections and for bad ones, it was able to st least cripple them enough to backup the users data and take screenshots of everything so after the reinstall, i can put all of the files and programs back and keep the positioning also, since many users get used to having icons and other stuff in certain positions ) PS, there is no software solution to stupidity. since my main focus is getting as much performance out of my pc as possible, I have most services and all startup items except rivatuner disabled (this also adds security as many of the vulnerable services are disabled and windows runs much faster. I also have many registry tweaks and more stuff disabled using autoruns, and with this, windows xp can boot to desktop and have all loading 100% done in about 17 seconds) I have both AVG and avast (since i still have avg 7.5 which is no longer updated, I will eventually remove it. But since i run the scanners as on demand scanners, i can have multiple auto protection is useless anyway. there many infected files in which the virus scan can detect if you do a manual scan but the auto protection will never see until the infection has already compromised the system so i manually scan downloaded files I have never had a infection that i did not purposely install I have not reinstalled windows in about 7 years now but because the startup is kept clean, it still runs like a fresh install PS even the best virus scan in the world will not handle a minute in the hands of an idiot with a copy of limewire
  7. my reason behind it is trying to understand what locking down an entire chat accomplishes when ever anyone spams, (cant they just let the auto banning bot handle it?) (for me it just seems to give the spammer more ammo because they have the power to get the chat modded when ever they want) it is just the dumbest thing I have seen in a long time especially when it happens every time and the admins lock the chat down and start reciting the rules to everyone, even though the spammer was kicked by the chat bot before the chat was modded
  8. I regularly go there but it has been getting really annoying and they are basically shooting them self in the foot. when ever a jerk/ spammer enters and spams the chat (a chat in which 4 messages in a row gets you kicked and if you join again and a spam a few more times, you get banned) anyway this is the stupid thing that I don't understand when ever the chat is spammed even once, the ops there quickly set the IRC to moderated for like 30 minutes when in this mode, only ops and half ops and a select few normal users are able to use the chat from what I see is this gives the spammers far too much power, as they know that if they spam, it will cause the admins to moderate the chat for like 30 minutes. a while back, they were able to basically denial of service 90% of the chat by coming in and spamming the chat every few minutes which basically kept the chat set on +m almost the entire day, and every time the chat gets moderated, the mods go through the rules like 1 rule at a time, (the spammers know the rules, they also know that when they spam the chat comes to a grinding stop because the admins are quick to moderate the chat. a single user coming and spamming 4 lines of text and getting kicked, and possibly coming back again and spamming another 4 lines and getting banned is less annoying than 1 user coming in and spamming then then getting kicked, then the chat being moderated for the next 30 minutes as that makes the chat unusable for more than 90% of the people there (this just encourages spam as a spammer can be sure to bring down a irc for like 30 minutes with just 4 lines of text)
  9. too lazy to take a pic, especially since the equipment is all over the place buy basically my setup it 1 linksys wrt54gl running tomato firmware, (my main pc, and my second pc is connected to it) 1 netgear router, gigabit ethernet and 802.11n, connected to the wrt54gl, so I can have 802.11n access 1 actiontec modem/ router connected to the netgear router, I keep the routers in different areas of the house, and I run 3 wireless AP's, with 1 of them being set up for others to try and crack, and if they do, I can monitor them and grab passwords and any other info I can get a hold of :)
  10. sound and video equipment seems to cause interference for the speakers. as things that have nothing to do with the sound will cause a slight noise. I was able to fix that but I am not sure if it will cause any problems for the ethernet. everything seems to work fine when I hooked everything up, but it doesn't hurt to take all precautions
  11. I have a 50ft cat 5 e ethernet cable that I am planning on installing for someone. The problem is that they have a lot of equipment that does introduce interference I already installed ferrite beads on the sound equipment and power cables, but I wonder if I should install one on each end of the ethernet cable (cat 5 e says 350MHz but I am not 100% sure of all of the frequencies that may be in use on the cable and I want to find the right one for the cable.) I want to make sure there no problems at all which ferrite bead is the best one for a ethernet cable
  12. yep BS, cellphone is the worst for internet, it is slow and theres always a really low cap like 5GB upload+download or less it is also much slower than wifi theres also the problem of extra fees, wifi is popular because it is free wireless especially when your in a city, in which it is hard to find a area with out a open access point and no one wants to pay for 2 internet connections
  13. they charge those prices because if someone cant figure out how to setup a router (which are insanely easy to set up) then they wont even know what money is and they can be easily ripped off I beta test lots of networking hardware including consumer level routers. and one thing I can tell you with out voiding the agreement is that they are easier than ever to set up many of the new routers coming out have a completely dumbed down install process it doesn't get any more simple than this Step 1, select connection type, step 2, enter username and pass if any for the connection, step 3 enter a wireless password, step 4, click finished and the router is set up. if someone needs to spend $150 to get help with this process, then they need to be ripped off because they cant even figure out how to put in a setup cd into the cd drive, and even worst they don't even know how to use a phone to call the toll free tech support number. they even come with instructions on how to plug everything up. even a hamster can figure it out. it is just sad that companies like linksys and netgear and dlink actually have entire teams dedicated to 1 job. making a setup cd to simplify the already simple setup process, and yet people still call support and geek squad and other crap so do a simple setup
  14. for me the motherboard raids have have very few problems other than being a little unintuitive to setup and it is hard to notice any performance impact without doing extensive benchmarking. but 1 problem I have noticed about pcie cards that handle this is that some of the cheaper ones tend to fail and it causes many problems with the data on the drives
  15. no problems at all, one of my friends has 1 17inch LCD and 2 17 inch CRT's (all dell's ) no problems at all, but is possible I recommend replacing the CRT's as modern LCD's have good color and contrast and use much less power and generate much less heat and have less of a kickback when they take in power. when you turn on a CRT while monitoring the line voltage, you will notice a sudden drop in voltage then a spike in voltage and then it levels out, lcd's don't do this
  16. mine was "password" :) jk
  17. i have seen many systems like that and have used a few, my friend did it to his old dell xps PC and it works 100% fine when I used it, he tome me that it took his all day to get it set up mainly because a crap load of command line crap but when he finished it works fine
  18. the problem with torrents and copyrights is many companies seem to count each torrent hit as a pirated copy, and they come up with outrageous numbers like, this torrent cost us 50 billion dollars damages. content creators will not accept a small monthly payment and the ones that don't wont have any content on the site so you may just see lots of crap like new startup content creators content being there but none of the good content that people actually go to torrent sites for so you will be basically paying for independent films and other low budget content and ads make more than enough money to run the site so the bandwidth thing is pretty much a joke. with out making the site obnoxious, the pirate bay was able to generate enough money to keep the site running no torrent site that tries to charge has ever been successful most sites that charge for content or unlimited downloads are often ripoffs because to actually make the payment worth it, you will have to download like a new album every hour on the hour another problem with this. if a site charges then very little people will actually be on it and the community will be too small to offer any worth while content I bet what they are planning is to make a site that will charge a lower monthly cost to users then have a contract and a complex fine print that allows them to increase the price, then they will skyrocket the price and add in a huge cancellation fee this is a common legal scam
  19. been looking for a faster paced song for a while now, was only able to find one by a group called XRS recorded a video of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y69HJQKbcP0 but i was wondering if anyone knew of a song that would be of a much faster pace that I can sue with audiosurf
  20. it is useful if you want to test something out before buying especially when it comes to things that good or bad is based solely on the individual, the last thing you want to do is buy it just to find out it sucks this is especially true for some games, music and movies piracy is illegal but according to the mpaa and riaa so is copying your content from a cd, onto your ipod or any other device is also illegal because you paid for 1 copy but now you have 2, 1 on cd/dvd and 1 on the portable device or on your pc if piracy is to be reduced then companies need to stop being so greedy. music companies don't even want you to hear even a second of their music with out you paying first, so they settle for a low quality 20 second sample which is useless game companies release crap games and no demos, or when they release a demo it comes with malware like securom (why does a demo need to come with securom, who pirates a demo? ) and when companies do give a demo, they end up limiting them to the point that it either makes the game suck or it seems fun then you later find out that the demo was all the full game had to offer piracy had increased by a lot ever since companies added DRM because people were not willing to risk buying something that they cant return if it sucks
  21. I do it a lot in my spare time and generally charge based on the work needed, if it is badly infected to a point where it is not work manually fixing because theres just too much damage to the OS, I will backup all of their data to a external drive (boot into ubuntu, and backup the stuff to a external drive, then boot into windows on a laptop and scan the data with 4 different virus scans (you can install multiple scanners if you disable their startup entries and services) while doing that I will reinstall and generally charge them like around $50-60 depending on the work. as I do take screenshots if I am able to get into windows and I try to get everything to be like how it was before right down to the look, with some performance optimizations it takes longer but it gives good results and allows you to get more customers because they end up telling friends as for adapters, I use a few that I got from ebay, they work well (was like $1 when I got it and free shipping from china) if you need to do a laptop drive, just use the 2.5 adapter and use that to connect to the external enclosure that wants ide and a 3.5 inch drive I do my work around the NY area and for more simple things like a system build, I generally charge around $30 (like $10 more if they picked liquid cooling as it is annoying to work with) and I will build the system and install the OS I don't charge by the hour because that can cause them to rush you. PS I have been looking into this for a little while but cant find much info on it in terms of quality and how well it works http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16812264002
  22. generally when a security problem is discovered, a company will ignore you if you report it but once it is released in the wild, they then take notice and fix it
  23. build your self a soldering station if you plan on doing long solder projects for me, I have a large magnifying glass attached to a one of those flexi lamps ( yep i know, ghetto :) ) and for air flow, I have a small 40mm fan blowing a soft wind at the work area (the fan goes in front of me, in between me and the work area, and in back a 120mm fan (pulling the fumes away (all hooked up to a cheap 12v power supply (pretty much a 12v adapter with home made fan connectors :) it is a cheap setup but it gets the job done especially when doing surface mount soldering and having to deal with those annoying tiny pins (someone should make scented solder :), just imagine, your soldering and theres no airflow and the room is sealed, well instead of the annoying solder smell, you can get vanilla scented solder :) jk ) solder may cause cancer but that doesn't mean you have to suffer through the bad smell to get it :) )
  24. why can they improve linux to have exe files where instead of doing 15 commands and having it mess up on 1 of the steps, why cant they have a exe file instead where the user only has to figure out how to click on the next button anyway that guide fails for me also they need to release a new version of all compilers where when they try to make a tgz file, it forces them to read something explaining why it is annoying and why they should make something like a .deb or something else that has a more automated install don't want to sound like i am bashing linux or anything but why cant they make something similar to the .exe in windows and make a standard for apps for linux so people wont have to go through annoying install processes and if they cant do that then at least allow for something like a batch file that will do all of the commands for you and if there already is something liek that then they need to stop being lazy and release those, if it is the same command for everyone then release a batch file
