    Sabayon Linux?

I've used one of the very first LiveCDs. From what I can remember, it was really unstable and buggy, but then again, it was one of their first releases. A really awesome thing is that it has video drivers and all of the other stuff that you want out of the box, instead of having to mess around with all of that other stuff afterward. The 3D desktop is also available out of the box. It's basically a polished version of Gentoo that removes alot of the stuff that could make Gentoo unattractive to use
  3. Duelus and Dualism are two different people?
  4. Am I the only who thinks that perhaps sending a nice(ish) blonde to a hacker convention full of shy, anti-social, male hackers who haven't seen a girl in 6 months wasn't exactly the best idea as far as trying to have her blend in? EDIT: I haven't seen Dateline, but is it one of those shows where they confront and follow people down the street in more or less the same harassing manner as was done to her (something like 'today tonight' or 'a current affair' in .au) If it is, I'm so glad they escorted her out like that. I hate those kinds of "news" shows SO bad

    Win XP SP3??

WARNING: I'm reading the forums in a REALLY bad mood, so the following is going to be much more harsh, and possibly illogical and unintelligent than I normally post. I am REALLY sick and tired of people ragging on Vista. It's perfectly ok. Microsoft did a good job. There are useful features in the operating system. A short and incomplete list of which includes [li]Instant Search[/li] [li]An improved and much more attractive GUI (Aero)[/li] [li]Improved features and usability in the windows shell/file manager[/li] [li]OS X style widgets[/li] [li]WMP11 and IE7[/li] [li]Windows DVD Maker[/li] [li]Windows media centre included[/li] [li]easy backup with shadow copy[/li] [li]parental controls[/li] [li]completely new network stack with native support for IPv6 and NAT traversal technologies[/li] [li]Windows photo centre[/li] which is clearly far from I dare anyone in this forum to sit for 5 years and to try to program an operating system that's more reliable and feature packed than windows vista. The fact is that Vista IS a stable, modern consumer operating system, by any reasonable measure. Remember, Linux and OSX both crash from time to time in just the same way (especially when using iLife) XP is an outdated rusty old OS that is on its way out and has in fact overstayed its welcome. There is a much more suitable and appropriate alternative.
  6. isn't cain & abel only on windows? yes, i will say it, this Hollywood movie is factually incorrect. *gasp*
  7. why exactly is that? is it because of the "you need to post a few times to post links" thingy or is it possibly because phpBB is more popular and is more likely to have scripts customised for it. kinda the network effect but this time in a sort of bad way
  8. I've tried an older version of sabayon, one of their first releases i think. i found it to be REALLY unstable, but that was an early release. I found it really nice that it had drivers for Berryl from start up and required no configuration.
  9. this is a great idea isn't demonoid going to be taken down soon? i've heard that a dutch copyright group is trying to get rid of them
  10. their smoothie is on ebay for anyone who wants to to buy it's currently at ~$1200 am i the only one notices that the values of the iphone almost triples after being put through a blender :)
  11. If you know what Leisure Suit Larry is, feel shame. oh, and btw. In LSL6 don't go down to the beach for that romantic date with the pretty "girl". PLEASE!! for the love of god. It's not worth it!
  12. Don't mean to sound dumb or nothing, but, what's the point putting aside the geek impulse to play with anything new or different, what incentive do i have to use safari on windows what is better about safari that is not available in any other browser on windows?
  13. Leapo, thanks for your short biography. I think that's almost long enough to get published :D
  14. it just occurred to me as I was installing win98 into vmware, due to having an old game that refused to work on XP, that I may be a little old, especially compared to some of the guys that hang around here. Now, this isn't intended to be a run down nostalgia lane where everyone goes on about their first computer... but my family's first computer was a P200 with win95. Is there anyone here who has never used win95 cos they are to young to have ever touched a computer that long ago? Seriously, I feel really old now that I think that there are some guys here who are 14 or something. 14 - 12 = 2 yo when win95 came out
  15. just goes to show you something all the effort that went into making U3, ie, emulating a CD on a USB device using modified hardware. You can have exactly the same functionality if you just get windows to look for an autorun.ini on a regular USB device
  16. hey guys, just got a new 2GB toshiba, "transmemory" usb drive i couldn't care less about u3, basically just got it for switchblade/hacksaw a few questions that i haven't been able to get answers to by looking around 1: i have a toshiba drive, will it matter if i get launchpad updates for sandisk drives? 2: i copied all the files that originally came on the drive and made an iso file of the cd drive that comes on the u3 disk. This is to make sure that i can recover my original launchpad and functionality after messing about. Is there anything else i should do first 3: as i said, i don't really care for u3, i plan on just flashing the iso part of the drive with a black cd, is that the most appropriate way of doing this. this site: http://www.u3.com/uninstall/uninstall.aspx is completely unhelpful 4: is there a nice easy installer to get U3 back onto your drive if you uninstall it, my feeling about this is no, but wanna check anyway thanks if you can answer any of the above EDIT: i have since used the universal launchpad hacker link a very nice and easy to use tool that i think is a hacked version of one of the branded U3 update tools worked fine for me (i have added that fact to the wiki) and now i can put whatever iso i want onto the iso part of the drive i have made a backup of the original iso and was able to restore U3 functionality back to the drive, so no problems at all there it's important to note though, i don't think toshiba have an "install u3" utility the way that sandisk or others do all of the U3 stuff was on the drive when i got it, there was no software or CD with the drive other than what was on there already
  17. Exactly the same thing happened to me a few months ago I think I posted about it on these forums when i put my jeans in the washing machine along with also my mobile Mobile was stuffed, USB came out fine I think that those things are usually nicely sealed
  18. i found this amusing and i can't get on IRC to share
  19. I guess getting shot must have destroyed this person's ability to write in paragraphs.
  20. yea, not too big a fan of the outside i notice you went outside, but you still took your laptop with you. haha oh, and you have a really nice backyard. who takes care of all the flowers and stuff
  21. well why don't people post them here and share them with everyone

    DVD Rip

yea, it's a scratched DVD, so you're getting checksum errors when the scratched part of the disk is being read. Pretty common i've found, DVDs, particularly pressed DVDs, really suck what i tend to do when i get this kind of problem is to go to DVD decrypter and to put it in file mode (which i think is the default). This will let you extract files individually. Extract all of the files that you can, some will not work. Note these down. Then wipe the surface of the disk as many times as you can. Wash it, shine it, do anything at all that you can to remove any scratches that you can Go back to DVD decrypter, this time you only need to try the files that didn't work cos you've already extracted the ones that did work. Hopefully you will have gotten all of the remaining files and you can then go off and use dvd shrink. Otherwise you can keep trying for those remaining files until you turn blue. Usually if the disk is sufficiently stuffed there's nothing that you can really do about it
