  1. Well i possibly misunderstood your initial problem. if you have a problem with unauthorised access then just upgrade to WPA-AES, both WPA and WPA2 support this. use at least a 15 character random password with upper, lower case, numbers and special characters. a trick i use is mnemonics. example, think of a song: sp,cutEt.EpshKmUsh$tkeap_W4lrus easy to remember and not likely to be cracked unless you actually are the walrus. any security measures over that is probably overkill, unless you are running a public service or you're opening up your network to other clients
  2. If you have an 'out of the box' infrastructure setup then anyone authenticated with your access point can sniff your traffic; sslstrip is one way to sniff encrypted https passwords. there are three ways to protect yourself, kick all the clients, use a vpn, or if you have a supported router (WRT, Linksys) you can flash it with DD-WRT and setup multiple VLANs; i prefer the latter. you can set up public and private WLAN interfaces. Your router might already support VLANs, so check out the documentation. if not, here is a list of supported hardware for VLANs by DD-WRT: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/VLAN_Support Some more info: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Separate_WLANs
  3. What do you guys think of gnome-shell? TBH, somethings i like, but somethings i don't. It seems to me to still be a work in progress. certain things like transparency on shell interpreters not working, custom bashrc files causing text formatting issues. There is also the annoying issue that is the lack of support for manually creating custom launchers through the gui shell, and the lack of a minimise button on windows. I hated kde for its rather peculiar feel, gnome seems to be going in the same direction. What are your thoughts on on it? How many of you actually use a DM?
  4. Hi, don't really see the point in telling you my favourite band, it's Pink Floyd, or my age, mid 20's, where i am from, scotland, so i'll just forgo that for now and say that i have watched some of the shows for a little over a year now, and for what it is, it is the best channel of its kind on youtube, fun to watch with interesting ideas. I have an interest in hardware hacking, in particular embedded systems, although still a novice. I have some basic programming experience and have been Linux for about 2 years now; currently running Arch. At some point in the near future, when i get time, i hope to compile my own kernel; i'll just add that to my 'to do list.' Just want to give my support to Darren and say that i enjoy trolling on your videos >:D, i appreciate the show really though and that snubs, you are a lovely lady; i don't use that word 'lovely' on just about anybody you know! Keep the videos coming and i will be looking forward to some inspiration from your forums. Peace & Love.
