  1. Assuming the web server fronting this portal is Apache you could just use some redirect trickery to 301 to main portal page than use more re-direct trickery to go back to the destined page. I would need to have a sample URI for a KB article and the main page though.
  2. Ha! I put ten of my finest British pounds down on the fact your client knows they are non legitament licenses.
  3. Backup server with Bacula and ton of HDD's is for the win :)
  4. Don't bother.... Grab a part time IT job somewhere and make sure you get your SANS Pen Testing qualification and if you can afford it... Cisco CCNP.
  5. Ah the dreaded College Grad start out... See if you were in the UK with a Networking focus... I'd go grab your CCNA/CCNP and go contracting cause it's big in the UK for networking at the moment (or TA's) but that's beside the point. I guess unless your heading for grad schemes... get your CCNP then walk in somewhere :)
  6. Yeah I mean vSphere/ESXi is pretty old technology. Virtualisation has moved on. I'd reccomend telling your CTO to look at Hyper-V :) In term's of coniguration it's all quite logical. Everythings architectured to represent a Datacenter. Datacenter1 --> Cluster 1 --> Machine1 --> VM1 VM2 Vm3 Machine2 --> VM1 VM2 Cluster 2 --> Machine1 --> VM1 VM2 Vm3 Datacenter2 --> Cluster 3 --> Machine1 --> VM1 VM2 Vm3 Machine2 --> VM1 VM2 Cluster 4 --> Machine1 --> VM1 VM2 Vm3
  7. To be honest.... Most companies, even the big corporates are moving away from in-house IT nowadays. Economies of scale from contracting out your requirements to big players like HP/IBM can be beneficial.
  8. If your quite well disciplined I'd reccomend finding out the Exam References/Module References from the Vendor Site and doing a good old... <module reference> ebook rapidshare.com *SEARCH* :) Then just pay to the exam. I must say though not sure what it's like in the US but here in the UK I work for Banks/Insurance companies as a technical architect and i've only got a few certs. Mostly goes off experience if you work for the big boys :)
  9. Dude... This doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Head to Dell's Website or eBuyer! Grab yourself a entry level server. Make sure you have some type of RAID there for redundancy. Also grab yourself a cheap NAS. In my opinion you could slash your costs whacking CentOS 5.5 on there with Samba Server to do the Windows Domain/File Sharing role. Just incase you don't know what CentOS is, it's pretty much Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 but community supported. There are plenty of tutorials around for setting up CentOS to do all sorts. If you need help though just post on here or PM me. Cheers Matt
