  1. It may appear that it looks like menu.lst but do you have "show all file extensions" enabled in windows? It's simplest to boot up your linux live distro, pretty fool proof that way. @horwood97 I would heavily suggest that you add to your hak5 user profile what country you reside and your age. This isn't a slite towards you or anything. I think it would just help you a lot so you don't get flamed ;)
  2. Your flash drive or whatever your using is probably not hd anything. Find out by booting into ubunto live and boot up the partition editor and find the device. It'll list it. Or in a terminal window type sudo fdisk -L to list the devices, your usb device name will be there. Make note and add it to your device map Note: I'm a n00b. I just seen no-one post for you in a while and I believe that should help. I may be wrong. Somebody please correct me if I am - kgonepostl
  3. Thank you, I'll check out the notes. I'm curious why this only happens in my situation. What the most likely culprit in this case guys? It seems that each device is treated differently on the install and that using a sd card is not too conventional using grub4dos and the others. Just trying to understand linux a little bit at a time. I hope I'm not pissing you off. I'm gonna go and try to modify the script and set the pointer to /dev/sda1 instead of the uuid or whatevers up. Btw, long article. Looks difficult. K, here I go. One quick thing before I start gunzip < ../initrd.cpio.gz | cpio -i --make-directories Is that a spacer for two different commands or do you actually type the | part of it?
  4. I used to be an extremly violent person. Took me 3 times to go to jail before I realized it wasn't the way. I am extremely angry person but I use it to my advantage, you wouldn't even be able to tell. I always thought there was a possibility contributed to video games but I've thrown that aside. I've been in situations these days where any rational person would have beat the shit out of the person that robbed them 2 grand worth of electronics and was at your friends party (yup, it happened) people asked me what I wanted to do to him. I was furious at first but I said with a smile on my face "I came here to drink and have fun, fuck him" Considering everybody had my back and he should have got jumped for what he did to me I think I handled it pretty well for a person who's beaten more fps' and murder simulators than he can count. As to realism and speaking for everybody else. Idk, I see it as a personal choice of being intelligent and self-aware. Movies like saw are way more graphic and contain real actors, the difference is obviously interactivity but even songs like helter skelter made a certain family do some pretty nasty stuff, and books like the catcher and the rye inspired someone to murder a certain "Beatle" AND the attempt of an assassination of one of our presidents When it comes to entertainment. The topic is always a redundant non ending battle. I simply put it to you like this, Pick your poison
  5. That was the second method I tried after first attempting to use the create bootable usb option, than it was was grub4dos. Than it was the de-compiling and re-compiling script found here. http://www.pendrivelinux.com/usb-ubuntu-90...nstall-windows/ We did talk over my first forum post, I immediately hit up the subforum which you requested which brought me to psychosis' excellent guides. I'll look over the original thread. I apologize for this. Please understand that I am very excited about using ubuntu and getting into linux. Seems I still don't know how to contain my excitement. I've only gotten 5 hours of sleep in the past two days! I feel like a n00b again! What an awesome feeling!
  6. I'm sorry I do not understand this All motherboards have legacy support, even usb devices hardware have legacy support. Why isn't one of the advanced ipl's not allowing usb 1.1?
  7. Since this is always based on a heat problem, Here's my dead honest proposal. Crack your 360 open and have the top half off at all times, have an outside fan blowing ON IT while your playing, clean it with compressed air and swap take off the heat sinks and apply good thermo goo on the ram and gpu every month. It'll look ghetto as hell. It's crazy that we have to do this...........BUT-WE-HAVE-TO-DO-THIS! ARGGGG!!!
  8. Just a word of advice, I would use ext2 but that's just me. Less read and writes done if your going to constantly use to the device. Ext3 is good if your going to use it every now and than. I'm a n00b too dude, I'm in the same boat when it comes to linux. I'd consider linux a pretty safe os though compared to the rest so I don't know why your sweatin or what you were using before....
  9. I mean seriously, I've tried everything from straight through the ubuntu gui creating a bootable usb device, to straight install, to grub4dos, to grub, to grub 2 and some other things I can't get a sd card booted no matter what I try. Has anybody here used an sd card in a SD card adapter to run ubuntu in persistent mode!? (means that you can write to the flash drive) No matter what I get a busybox shell in every situation. I'm trying really hard here guys :)
  10. Is a rainbow table even possible? Wouldn't it take a few petabytes quite literally? @op Your giving hackers a bad name. How about you pay for your internet and hand out your keys to everybody where you live and hate your internet. I would understand if you were borrowing it temporarily just to surf the web til x happens because of x, but your just being a flat out thief who wants to steal other peoples stuff. If you don't have the guts to walk up to their door and ask them for their key, than you shouldn't do it behind a computer monitor. It's just common sense.
  11. I'm sorta new to the boards. Isn't this sorta thing frowned apon? I didn't hear you complain when "one of those dvd players with gaming functionalities" came out If you own a Ps2 you don't know how ass backwards your comment just was. That's been Sony's business structure since it worked so well for the Ps2 when dvd players were way more expensive. Btw, what's the problem with owning a 300 dollar blu-ray player that runs linux and a few good games anyway? Sounds awesome to me. Btw, I Own a Xbox 360. Unfortunately literally after 10 seconds of powering on it for the first time may I add, I rrod' and I haven't felt the motivation to send it in since everything else is basically on the Pc. Wii is way overpriced, Ps3 has crap library and supposedly shitty online, 360 sucks meh balls when it comes to hardware revisions and rrod's, Pc is so 2000. Pick your poison. GL, HF, GG
  12. Accessories: Extended warranty and a x-clamp fix kit On a serious note. Obviously anything that's not already on the pc at least atm. Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter 4, Gears 2, there's this new xbox live arcade game that's cheap and just pure awesome. It's called shadow complex, check it out, it's really fun, you won't believe it's only 15 bucks.
  13. Yup, busy box and all. I even followed this tutorial that should DEFINITELY-ALWAYS WORK. It doesn't I should mention that I'm using a SD card into a sd adapter. I don't own any flash drives. I just want to make good with what I have. What are you using WickedAngel? And what version are you using? 64 or 32 bit based?
  14. Yup, I followed this entire guide to a key and watched the hak5 ep. Still getting the same error no matter what I do no matter what I use I always get this garbage modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/modules.dep: no such file or directory hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate usb device on port 5 loading please wait... busybox v1.10.2 (ubuntu 1:1.10.2-2ubuntu7) built in shell (ash) Enter help for a list of built-in commands
  15. Than why won't it boot when I use the create bootable usb option?
  16. I seen a video on youtube that creates an appropriate menu.lst based on a drag and drop interface. It seemed to work very well. I'm too fuk1n tired ironically because this lst crap has got my head blown open. I'm so tired I feel like I'm really really drunk. I'll link the program tomorrow
  17. I'm really new to linux and I figured it out. I just did a main install and modified the menu.lst folder BECAUSE THE INSTALLER IS FUK1N RETARDED! Seriously, how do you install to a drive where you clearly list it and not have your mbr point to that very same drive? THAT'S-FUKED
  18. After doing some more research it's weird but your suppose to use the regular install if your using a sd card to store the os. HERE'S THE PROBLEM. I'm going to have to use grub2 me thinks. I don't know if it's going to install a bootloader onto the sd card. So if it doesn't install a mbr than I'm going to have to use grub2 which means a manual hard install or using some sort of vm within my windows environment. Than again maybe not since it has the install option within windows. I'll try the easiest method first. Just install regular using ext2 and see if she boots. I'll edit with meh findings until something works.
  19. Btw, it's saying attempt to load off of ata1 failed. Is it trying to boot off my hard drive for some retarded reason? Shouldn't it say sdc1? Here's some info I hope this helps you guys out. After you get to the ubuntu loading screen. This is the exact error I get ata1: softreset failed (device not ready) modprobe: FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/modules.dep: no such file or directory hub 1-0:1.0: unable to enumerate usb device on port 5 loading please wait... busybox v1.10.2 (ubuntu 1:1.10.2-2ubuntu7) built in shell (ash) Enter help for a list of built-in commands I'm a n00b with this but ata1 seems like it's treating it as the first hard drive and no such file or directory is creepy too.
  20. That would require a physical install to the hard drive, which would requiring me shrinking my volume using gpart, than installing, than installing grub 2, creating a chainloader. I mean it allows the install to the card which clearly shows on the live gui ""compact card", creates the mbr, copies the file, and most importantly for saving shit to the drive and not acting like it's "live" ubuntu completes persistence mode. All goes well until I boot. If it says all is well than why am I not booting. Getting to 100% and saying your good to go is very misleading. If they don't support sd than they shouldn't have let me install to it. Really confused here. Seems like all's well.
  21. Note: This isn't actually a flash disc. It's a microsd plugged into a usb adapter Ok, sorry about the n00b question. I got the latest distro of ubuntu and I'm trying to create a bootable ubuntu os on my flash disk. It allows me to install with the latest live distro using the "install on a usb drive" option. However, when I boot by hitting f12 and selecting usb hdd in my bios. The ubuntu boots to the main option menu. When I click "Try ubuntu without making chages option it doesn't load. It tries to load for almost 2-3 minutes and comes up with nothing. I get a few errors on the screen and it doesn't load into ubuntu The weird part is that ubuntu sees it as an sd card and let's me install no problem. You'd think everything would be fine once it modifies the mbr and writes all the necessary files. I don't have a direct multicard reader built into my system so an adapter is the only way I can go. I'm using this multi card reader here http://www.meritline.com/showproduct.aspx?...in-usb-port-777 I've always used sd cards into usb adapters so I don't own any flash discs AT ALL. I'm just plugging the minisd directly into the appropriate slot on the usb multi-reader. Sorry about the rambling. I'm just a little intimidated by this forum so I guess it's affecting my writing skills. Any questions or wtf's? Feel free to ask if you don't understand the problem or NEED more info. Thanks guys and gals!
