1. Kinda strapped for cash at the moment. Thinking either this with the ralink 3070L chipset for$13

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PIQ9ETY/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_KRAKwbQKWVP97

Or this with the ralink 3070 chipset for $17. It has 3000mw over the other one.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00EFLKNJI/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_BUAKwb7463JZ0

I'm looking for something that has high compatibility and a strong signal strength that works well in kali

2. Thank you guys! I'm not the smartest person but I try REALLY hard. I remember when I spent 3 full days and nights trying to get Kali Linux to work right. If you have other ideas of exploits to read about PLEASE let me know. I got A LOT of reading to do.

3. If Im not mistaken, I think the minimum password length for wpa2 is 8 characters. The maximum is 63 characters long. The total keyspace for wpa2 (including upper/lower/digit/symbol) is about:

$ python -c 'print ( (26+26+10+58)**63 - (26+26+10+58)**8 )'

if you divide that number by the Tries/sec your able to perform, you'll have (about) the number of seconds it'll take to crack it via brute force. That keyspace is pretty big IMO.

I can't do that math. More importantly I don't know what those numbers represent. Are you saying that I shouldn't brute force because it takes too long?

4. I haven't looked into wifi hacking in over 5 years so bare with me. I don't even know where to start. It has been so heavily confusing catching up. I already did some preliminaring research. I started reading about pyrit, oclhashcat gpu bruteforcing pmk's, cowpatty. What are some good ways to get into my wireless network? I want to crack my network. I'm thinking about bruteforcing or a dictionary attack. Current password is 6 characters long and contains upper case and lower case. I have a mid teir gpu (asus r9 290) if bruteforcing will take too long with those requirement.s

1.) Is bruteforcing mostly out of the question even with a r9 290 gpu? I plan to upgrade to a gtx 980 X2 SLI config in the next month or so.
2.) Dictionary attacks aren't very effective from what I understand. That sucks. Is there a way to make them more effective? This would be ideal.
3.) What other options are there?

I'd like a rundown of effective wpa2 cracking methods to read about basically. Thanks for your help.

5. as Psychosis said, your best bet is to go to the sources listed at the bottom of a wikipedia page and draw your conclusions from that.

Use wikipedia as one of the avenues to do research, but don't steal or quote from wikipedia directly. Even with their new system, colleges and schools will still refuse to accept its credibility in most cases.

And this is EXACTLY what I constantly bring up in the debates. I propose that cited resources and the wikipedia page is just a collective web site informational D-A-T-A-B-A-S-E

If I can list enough sources for a reference, why does it matter if it came from google OR wikipedia?

6. Wikipedia is implementing a system to color code the reliability of edits made to documents. Now I can tell my teachers to STFU about Wikipedia not being a "credible source." It's hardly ever my only reference in the first place.

They fear what they don't understand

THE INTERWEBS!

I'm a realist, so I'm gonna go out on a limb here since most of my college teachers are old enough to have invented the printing press, if it's digital, they'll find something retarded to scrutizine about this. I've won debates countless times with teachers. It seems like they just don't know how wikipedia works at all, and it appears they are just afraid of MLB standards so much that they should check their granny panty's for poop streaks.

7. Drives don't always show up as the same device in two different distros, let alone Grub4DOS and Ubuntu. To find out which device it could be in Grub4DOS enter the command line by pressing 'c' after you boot. Type in "root (" and then press TAB. This will show all available drives. Try chainloading different ones. I'm quite certain the drive and the "+1" command need to be one string which also might be what's giving you the error. Use "(drive)+1" instead of "(drive) +1"

See, that was my mistake. In a sense grub is it's own tiny os and ubuntu it's own. The device mappings are different so you have to check in grub. Good job H@lo, thanks for clearing my mistake!

8. Actually, setting it to mount the SD card based on the UUID would be the best bet if you were able to get it working because then you wouldn't have to worry about the drive showing up as a different device on a different machine (which happens quite often in Linux). The only way I know of doing this is modifying /etc/fstab. Modifying the init scripts isn't quite easy. I just started learning about it and it took me about a week just to modify the Ophcrack scripts to search for the tables in "/.multiboot/Ophcrack/tables" as well as mounting all FAT32 and NTFS file systems as rw so that I can save passwords, user names, etc. I'll post a guide on it when I get the time (probably < 3 days) so that you may follow it if you'd like, but you'll want to modify different scripts and lines than I did and you'll have to figure out what those scripts and lines are.

And with that command, the '|' is called a pipe. It takes the output of the first command and "pipes it" to the second command. The same thing could be achieved by doing:

gunzip ../initrd.cpio.gz
cpio -id < ../initrd.cpio

Note: Use the same distro as root to extract/modify/compress the scripts so that the file permissions stay the same. This was a big problem I had before I realized what was happening and why.

Thanks for the awesome post.

I like SD. It's not as good in read/write unless you own a class 4/class 8 card. However, those are very cheap as well. That's why I felt no need to own a flashdisk until now! My class six 8 gig microsd only cost 14 shipped and the usb adapter is two dollars. It may seem a lot/gig but the functionality is much greater you know what I'm sayin? Plus I bought it 6-8 months ago at that price so I'm sure it's cheaper now

Microsd/sd is the way to go with ubuntu for my own personal purpose and I'm sure many others will agree since you can pop it in a camera as well.

I'll try that long guide my very best. When you do find the time I'm very eager to read your upcoming guide. Thank you for letting me know :-)

9. OK kids

As a library network admin for a major library in the NY area i can attest that myself and other Library network admins lock down the boxes for reason. The computers at a library are for the enjoyment of every patron for the sake of doing research not for your personal enjoyment.

We spend many many hours locking down every nuance on a patron access system so script kiddies and even experienced computer users cant get past the basic account that is on a desktop and in more cases than not those accounts are monitored so we do know when someone gets shell or script access and don't be surprised if someone comes and taps you on the shoulder and asks you to leave because he saw what you were doing

Most libraries are working off domain based systems where everything is locked down at the server level so even if you did get past the local lockouts there is a small chance that you can get past the server blocks that are in place such as blocking CD rom and USB access as well as saving ANYTHING on the HDD

In the library that i work for they also make sure that you sign a computer user agreement that in most cases informs you that YOU are responsible for any damage sustained to the computer while you are using it and take my word for it they WILL sue you or turn you over to the cops as a hacker. I have had to deal with and provide forensic evidence for 2 such occasions

As posted several times in this post there is NO REASON whatsoever for you to have root or admin rights on a library patron access box

So man up and stop wasting peeps time with something that you aren't going to be able to do in the first place

Hi, I'm trying to download a 30kb file from my gmail but there's too many fuk1n lockouts to let me plug in my usb and download something so simple.

Turns out it's in rar format and that's evil

Thanks for the reply

Angry dude who hates library's

Btw, never test a hackers resolve. Now you got people goin with proof of concepts.

........your doomed

10. They have to pay for royalties so they can play music that doesn't suck and not break the law

Don't like it? Go pro for 40 bucks a year cheapass! Gives you 192kbs, desktop app, the works as well.

lol ... torrent noobs..

Hey man, I use usenet a lot, AND I MEAN A LOT! I don't know what else there could possibly be that's so great besides usenet. What are you guys using these days to aquire legal files?

Anyway, I'm gonna call you out on that one. If you understand how bit torrent works and how to stay more safe than you'll max out your connection all the time

It's all about the ratios baby! There's nothing wrong with 5 seeders and 10 leechers. You just have to understand how bit torrent works and weigh out the torrent by ascending by seeders and see if it's an appropriate ratio with the seed/leech ratio. That and the understandings of a basic household router and porting.

GL, HF, GG

Btw operator, what are you using that's so 1337 anyway? I'm genuinely curious

11. Xbox 360 rrod

PC

Amd x2 5500+ 30 bucks

8 gigs dd2 800mhz TIMINGS DON'T MATTER TO ME. CHEAPER THE BETTER = 40 bucks

1.5 terabytes shared, all pata = 100 bucks

One huge ass cpu sink. Things absurdly big = 15 bucks

factory oc'd 4890 = 140 bucks

A decent mobo = 70 bucks

80 dollar 19 inch lcd monitor with great timings and everything.

two self powered usb hubs with tons of peripherals

500w antec truwatt = 20

Antec ammo 533 coolercase = completely free after rebates

Hey, it works just fine, I never peak out. All games work on high atm and most of those parts were bought about a year and a half ago.

Total price was 475 and considering that the mobo has a 3200 onboard I'm going to subtract the video card because its not a needed accessory which really means it cost (1)333 bucks. So it's a great pc.

12. Cod5 I would assume since n00bs go out and buy everything with a 2, 3, or 4 at the end without making an appropriate consumer division.

VEHICLES DON'T BELONG IN A FPS!!!!!

Just had to vent that real quick.

I think cod5 is great because of the dogs and the minor extras. However, it's pretty retarded. I remember when they announced it and I said to my friends "Wtf are they thinking? Is it just a coincidence that cod has gone down the toilet and when you introduce it to a MODERN setting people are more happy with the results!?"

It seemed to be pretty true since modern combat two comes out right after 5. The demand is so obvious. cod5 sold well but hype will do that to people. I'm not saying it's terrible. I like a lot of the stuff in it. It's just retarded like that. I'm tired of wwII when it comes to cod after I beat big red one and all it's predecessors from the start.

The straight up fuk1n truth why it sld so well is because it's cod4 with a wwII mod (obviously) with some minor added stuff imo. I would be disappointed if they changed the formula, the new approach just works.

The answer is of course cod5. It doesn't matter anymore, since the launch of cod4 it's going to be whatever game ends in the latest digit. That is until n00bs get associated with their favorite and assume to have the right to critique and get into hardcore flame wars even though their n00bs.

I'm simply speaking as a change of pace standpoint. Same game, different world, more people online.

Now it depends. WHO you'd like to play with. That's the real question. Modern and 5 have a much different demographic from what I've seen.

Sorry about the TLDNR
