  1. Does anyone here know how to restart services on a remote windows server, from a linux server using SNMP? It needs to be able to be done without any user interaction.

    SNMP Monitor

We use Nagios http://www.nagios.org/ I don't think it uses SNMP right out of the box however there are SNMP plugins for it.
  3. Yes a HaXorFlakes poster, i'd definately buy one.
  4. Wow! Very nice I do say just that it looks like your wallpaper was modified to be widescreen (low res wallpaper look). Yes I did have to modify it slightly, I got it from digitalblasphemy however even their tri-screen wallpapers were not large enough to fit the entire desktop, So i just edited some in photoshop to sort of fix it Don't they charge for downloads of wallpapers? I actually bought a membership a while back and got every wallpaper that interested me then
  5. I ended up getting a MAC Address from an unused laptop through a friend who is in a music class where they have laptops in there that they never use, yet the MAC addresses are still on the whitelist. I have been to the administrators asking for access to the network but they are just like "because of security issues the only way we can allow you to use your own personal laptop is if you purchase one that is the exact same models as we use and you allow us to put on all of the restrictions that other students have" The thing that pisses me off is there is another person who I sort of know and when he asked for access with his own computer they just gave it to him, they allowed the MAC address for his laptop with no questions asked. WTF? When they catch me spoofing this year I am going to question them about that, even take it to the central office for all of the county schools and even to the superintendent if necessary. BTW there are only 6 computers in teh library which are "public" computers that anyone can use, the catch is you really aren't allowed to use them unless the teacher sends you there to use them or if your class is using the library. And out of the 1250 students there this year, the 6 computers are almost always in use.

  7. Ok, I'll just try it on a cheaper one first or a buyer who i'm pissed off at before i try it on a more expensive one. I only have 7 left that I'm selling and I don't plan on selling these anymore
  8. Are there any dangers of shipping computer monitors / old style iMacs face down? I mean would there be any damage to the CRT monitor like would the colors be messed up upon arrival or any magnetic issues? I would be doing this with about 5-6 inches of good sturdy padding underneath the entire thing. I ask because it is a lot easier to pack the old iMacs face down since the front is rather flat.

  11. A friend of mine bought a laptop with vista home premium on it and he needs to change the MAC Address for his wireless card. I have recommended SMAC to him however when he runs that it says his wireless card is not active. I told him how to change it directly in the registry however that did not work as well. There are no third party programs installed that control the wireless card, windows is controlling it. Any ideas why it wont let him change the mac address?
  12. well i'm a senior in high school and seniors have been doing it for years without gettin in trouble. for the poor kids they get hte laptops for like $5 per year
  13. They use a web program called Blackboard. We have a section for each class and teachers can post assignments, notes, quizzes, tests, etc. if they choose too. If I paid for a school laptop which is literally a glorified word processor since that is ALL you can use it for then I could just connect and get whatever I needed, you are supposed to pay $85 per year for it. Last year I didnt and any assignment i needed I had to copy from a friend or something. If I was connected I could just get it myself on my own computer. I think I have found some utilities that will work though.
  14. yes when teachers put work online for you to download its a lot easier than getting it from someone else
