Not sure if you've tried using the superuser... Using sudo ./hamster then opening up Camino with the http proxy 127.0.0.1:1234 in my system preferences/network/proxies tab, and going to http://hamster and then using the "en1" interface works beautifully, even better than it did on my Backtrack distro. Good luck with it, I'd like to see if anything like that works for you.
